My Hair Update

So, what had happened was...

It was late 2009 and for months I’d been bored out of my mind with my hair. I’d threatened to take Dh’s clippers and shave it more than once. I thought about relaxing again but reminded myself that me, long hair, and relaxers have never been able to co-exist simultaneously. So I settled on a familiar friend, hair color. Well, my hair rebelled and decided to not accept the color save for a few spots in the back of my head.:nono: I knew that color (I used Feria) was drying but this was special. My hair seemed to feel like straw no matter what I did. Then I wanted my hair pressed but didn’t quite feel up to the task, so I asked my mom to do it. She had never failed me before. Well there is a first time for everything. When she was finished I checked my hair in the mirror. It looked shorter somehow. I’d just hit MBL so this couldn’t be right.

I kept looking and it was definitely shorter. :eek2:
When I asked her why my hair looked shorter she said it was probably the way she had it combed. Not buying it, I pulled some strands to check length. It was shorter alright. A few strands at the nape were now down to 4 inches. They were twice that length! She used too much heat and actually burned some of my hair off. The ends looked fried and crispy, so I cut 1-2 inches to keep it from looking so busted. I was back at APL now.

How the hell do you burn someone’s hair away and not notice?! Huh? Huh?!:swearing::heated::gunner7:

I wanted to change my hair, but not like this! I was too through. It was going to take me all of 2010 for my hair to even look close to what I had.

Posted are pics from 2008 and the present. I didn’t take any hair pics last year because every time I looked at my hair I got mad (mostly at myself) all over again until just recently.

I’m claiming BSB at the moment although some of my hair is scraping BSL when I stretch it. When I do get to BSL I’m just going to claim MBL since they are practically the same on me. Lord willing, I’ll make WSL by the end of the year. At that time, I will trim to even things up some as one side is a little longer than the other.

My hair still doesn't look as good as it did 2-3 years ago yet, but I'm on the comeback trail. :2cool:

The first pic is from 2008. The bra pic is from yesterday.

I want my hair to look like it does in the last two pics.

That burnt hair smell is so familiar to me from all the times mom pressed and nothing happened; and from my trips to the salon in my salon going days, so I didn't blink. I think the sizzle was from the interaction with the hair grease. We went back to ye olde Blue Magic because it was late at night and a spontaneous decision.

When I flat ironed it the other day, I used a much lower setting and dh still smelled the hair. When he came in, he opened all the windows. Such a drama king!

OP, you said u had a set back, honestly i must be darn blind cuz from where i sit and as far as i can see you hair looks:love::rosebud:. you've come back from a "setback" and thats great! Congrats on your progress.

I really don't see either how 1 could burn off someone's har and not even smell it or see it, even when i'm flat ironing my weave i smell a difference if the iron is too hot.....smh. congrats anyway and the pics are lovely!

The anger has faded but she has joined the banned. I can't join the banned because I don't get to be exempted from caring for my hair so she has to take one for the team. She ain't neva, evah getting in my hair again.

Sorry about your setback but the progress you made is wonderful.

***I burnt my hair with a metal curling iron and didn't realize until I styled my hair and I had no one blame but myself:nono:

When I was 9, my grandmother used the curling iron that goes on the stove to give me a bang. My hair hadn't been washed in about two weeks so that thing shouldn't have been near my head. Anyways, I started playing with the bang and the bottom part of a LOCK broke off in my head. It was the creepiest thing ever! So I definitely can believe your hair burnt off like that.

But your hair is GORGEOUS. It'll be back to normal in no time!

Yikes!

My mom was using a stove top pressing comb. All things considered, I'm lucky to have escaped with as much hair as I did.
