THE 2012 BATTLE OF THE FLAT IRONS :)

FOR THOSE WHO USE FLAT IRONS :yep:"....

1) any that give you optimal results in 1-2 passes?

2) what are you absolute 2012 FLAT IRON faves? :drunk:

(with all the upgrades and newer flat irons on the market I find it's definitely harder to keep up with best technology has to offer)

if you name a brand... please please name the MODEL

I just went thru the flat iron search at the end of '10...Sally's has that really good return policy where you can keep it up to 60 days and see how it works. My budget was $100.
I went thru a Hot Tools-Nano Silver (way too hot!, case gets too hot), an Ion brand (was good but hair kept catching), and a Paul Mitchel brand(was too large and bulky@2")...before I settled on a good old GVP. Oh and I took the CHI and FHI back to Target because the heat was not variable.
Something about the GVP left my hair feeling softer and really shiny, the plates are ceramic/ionic whatever, so I've stuck with this one so far.....plus it looks really cool and matches my company logoLOL, and has blue plates so they got me with the look of it--was a holiday edition-$70 I think...

But anyway, I can get professional results with any new flat iron as long as the plates are smooth/close properly and the heat is sufficient....The last time I had problems with straightening was yeeears ago when I had a raggedy luke warm Gold and HotLOL.

My maxiglide! I love that thing it gets my hair straight in one pass...But my amika is great for my straight hair installs becuase it is smaller...but it gave me heat damage so I would probably go with my maxiglide.

It's a toss up between my Maxiglide and my Sedu. However, I'll say I use my Sedu more because it keeps my hair straight, and I don't have to do any touch ups to my roots or anything

I have two flat irons, and I love them both. I have a FHI Runway 1" and a Sedu Ionic Ceramic Tourmaline 1.5". I think each of them work great on my natural hair.

I've had my chi for 10 years now. It's still going strong. I've wanted to try the maxiglide and fhi runway but as long as my chi is working I have no need to buy another.

I also have fallen in love with the Chi curling iron (not the Chi air...the other one)

People don't believe I do my hair myself.

I still have the original CHI which I hate, I have been wanting to buy a new one for sometime now but I dont straighten my hair that often because I am not at my goal length. I am torn between maxiglide, Joico steam iron, SEDU and FHI platform

Generic Chi from Sally's. My natural hair gets relaxer straight, at 370, with one pass. I want a fancier one, but I just can't see spending that $$$.

I had a Solia that I LOVED.

Just recently while on vacay in the Bahamas, I borrowed my mother-in-law's GVP flat iron (Sally's brand), and it did an AWESOME job. I'm thinking about buying one now.

I have a Solia and some no-name brand ceramic that I bought for $20 as a back-up in Central America. Both work great, I use them at temp. of about 300 to 325.

I haven't flatironed in a really long time. Yay me!

I have a Sedu Revolution and a Hana Elite I bought on sale on Black Friday. I love my Sedu, but I must admit I haven't even looked back since I got my Hana :love3:

I would like to preface this by saying my natural hair is fairly easy to straighten and it stays straight FOREVER...

I have the original CHI:
No temperature variation. The plates aren't the smoothest, but it is a decent iron. My hair straightened to relaxer straight in 1-2 passes. However, my hair was always a little dull afterwards.

I had the Maxi Glide MP (I think...heck it could've been the XP):
This is the iron that I gave me the most problems. Heat damage and splits. My hair doesn't like steam styling tools. I have yet to figure it out, but it has been consistent. I tried caruso rollers and ended up with horrible ends. Not to mention it was bulky and the pins aren't the best for my hair.

I had a SEDU (the 1.5 inch):
It just didn't seem to straighten my hair the way I like, but that could have been user error because I did switch up how I did my hair that time. Either way, it went back to ULTA.

FHI Technique G2:
This straightened my hair WONDERFULLY. The biggest issue for me was it didn't have a temperature control. That was the only thing I didn't like. I did like this over my CHI.

Hana Elite:
I like it...I do, but I don't love it. I really want to. I wish the construction was a little better. The plastic seems cheap to me and I prefer a heavier flat iron. However, it is the best iron thus far... It does do the job in one swipe (330-370 range) and my hair doesn't feel dry or anything afterwards.

I was going to buy a GVP when it went on sale at Christmas for $40. But, I found a Cortex on Ebay for $14.99. The price included shipping. I think these used to sell for a lot more at some point. I love it. I only used it twice because I now just air dry but it straightened my ng in one pass. Once that goes up, I may get the GVP cause all my friends rave about theirs and I have had at least 2 hairdressers recommend it to me in the past.

I thought the December 2009 LHCF Maxiglide craze had established the Maxiglide's superiority once and for all?

That is the only flat iron I have ever used; prior to that I used an electric hot comb. I'll never go back to that, but I'm not looking beyond the Maxiglide either.

I have an Hana Professional and love it. Its the best flat iorn I have purchase. I also have a maxiglide that I have only used once. I purchased it the first time I transition. I must say that it got my hair very straight. Its just so bulky. I don't use it. Maybe when I am fully natural with longer hair I will like it but I doubt it.

@Bolded- I feel the same way about my Sedu. I felt like I had to use more passes with the Sedu (it might have been because the plates are SO slick). It's definitely #2 after the Elite because the Elite doesn't dry my hair out at all and makes it so smooth.

Either that or the Joico Steam Iron. I entered a contest on FB for the Joico iron. I hope I win!
