Lacefront VS Weave which is more professional?

Okay so I just finished school and I want to give myself a makeover for my new job. I am looking for a protective style that is professional. I always wear drawstring ponytails, but I really want a new look. By the way I have been semi natural for one year. Long story short, I have an afro, my hair is underprocessed, so I wear protective styles to work. The company that I will be working for is a corporate environment. I want to heat train my hair on my two year semi-natural-underprocessed -afro anniversary :blush:

. Tell me what you think. What is more professional micro/box braids or a lace wig? PS the reason why I wear these styles is to minimize heat usage until I achieve my desired length.

To be completely honest, I don't think the braids will look professional because they are outdated and are not conservative enough.

I've only seen one lacefront IRL that looked good. IDK about the micros either.

Why not do a full head sew in with a closure piece? They can look natural.

I work in corporate and wear braids and kinky twists all the time. I've seen weaves that look great, as well. I'm just not a fan of LFs so I don't pick that one.

But, your demeanor and attire also play a part in your professional appearance. I think you should get what's more comfortable to you and will allow you to shine with full confidence. Congrats on your new gig!

if you're not a pro at applying LFs, and you dont have a high quality LF, then i wouldnt do it...braids can be professional, and you can always put them into a bun or updo.

It may depend on what part of the country you live in also. I'm in the tri-state area. Most people don't wear braids anymore here. But, if you are in some other parts of the country, maybe people are still wearing them?

I am in senior managment with my agency. I would have to say that I don't mind wigs or weave in the workplace.

What I do have a problem with is a combination of the hair and those long, fake lashes. It looks silly to me. I have worn fake lashes to ball but not for everyday use.

braids definately, especially if you can just put it in a bun.

If you aren't a master at applying lfs then don't bother. it will show and it will be super distracting. I myself even find myself staring (in horror) at the hairline of employees that i've come across who are wearing bss lacefronts...it looks ridiculous most of the time)

Ideally, I think you should find a healthy style using either your real hair or something that looks real.

I know this isn't exactly what you want to hear, but nothing beats styling your own real hair. To me, weave just looks horrible no matter how well it's done. I think black women are addicted to it and don't even realize it. I remember the scene in Chris Rock's Good Hair of the high school girls and one was ragging on natural hair and I thought, the natural sista's hair looks awesome compared to that weaved up, over processed mess they were sporting. Chris Rock could have salvaged that if he wanted to but instead he actually made buffoons out of black women. And I don't know what that chic was talking about but I have a Masters degree, been in a professional setting and there are plenty of natural sistas around. I let my hair airdry and it fros up and I never have had the feeling that I can't get a job because of it or that white people feel uncomfortable becasue of it. The black girl herself has a problem with natural hair and she should have admitted that vs projecting!

Please stick with braids, or if you have to, a weave. The only way I would say LF is if you buy a custom one with a realistic (I mean seriously realistic hairline) and get it professionally applied, and the cost of all that would outweigh any benefit.

I hate that real hair is not seen as "professional". :nono:

I wear both weaves and lf (not glue down since I can't mess w/ glue or tape also I don't wear th bss lf either). I think a nice length (14") weave or lf would professional. Also no crazy colors. I believe is how you will style your hair that matters.

This is one of the lf I wear to work and I think it is work appropriate

Honey, if you could see my afro you would understand my pain. I know that black is beautiful. But I also know what looks right on me and I cant carry a fro like someone else could. And that is cool with me. But I agree with you, it is a shame that people do not see an afro as professional.

For the records, braids are absolutely considered acceptable professional hair, at least where I live (Cali). I wore extension braids throughout my summer associateship with a white shoe law firm last summer and got an offer for full time employment. Of course, if you're more comfortable with weave or LF, those are good too but whoever said braids are outdated and not conservative enough...maybe it reflects her experience but it is not the only experience.

It all depends on how you wear the lacefront. If you're getting it glue at the beauty supply store and get the baby hair jailed and all, that’s not professional. I’ve never glued my lacefronts. Only the top part of my edges show, the rest is covered up by hair.

This is my thoughts as applicable to me: It’s hard to fool many black people whether it’s a weave, lacefront or whatever. So I ain’t trying to fool them. But it is super easy to wear undetected fake hair to white people. I can’t tell you how many times they compliment my lacefront or weave. They want to know what I did to it or if I have a fresh cut. I just say yes and KIM. They do notice when I get braids. I get questions about how long it took. I never wear braids of the bat. I always give it some time before I bring out the braids, which I don’t do often cause it just take too long.

Both are good points. It depends on how you plan on wearing your natural hair, weave, etc. I think a well kept fro can be professional. But, you also have to take into account your age and whether the way you are wearing your hair makes you look like a child. There's so many factors.

I dont know why braids wouldnt be acceptable. I have seen plenty classy styles done with braids that are acceptable in the workplace.

A really good weave, with no bright colors and a simple style to it would be better. I have yet to see a lace front that doesn't look totally foolish.

I know exactly what you are talking about bss lacefronts are not the same as some of the ones on safe websites. I went to the shop to get a lace wig applied and the stylist shaved off my hairline. Shortly after that I was done with the whole glue application thing. My hair was cute, but my hairline was through. I agree that when a lacfront is not properly applied, it looks silly. A person should not know that you are wearing a lacefront.

LOL I decided to use this name because I did a big chop last year and I never want my hair to be that short ever again. I texlaxed my hair and I still have an afro. But I always want to be able to say that I used to be bald but I am not anymore, and God willing I never will be again.

braids would be a good option too as long as they neatly done and in arranged in a non distracting style. I dont get why afrocentric syles are looked upon as unprofessional. If my boss ever told me my braids or natural hair made him uncomfortable , i would have consider if i needed to work there at all.

Small braids applied properly are regal and beautiful. It is all about the individual IMO.
