For those who use no-lye relaxers, would it be a good idea to chelate approximately a week after the relaxer?

From what I understand, no-lye relaxers leave calcium deposits in the hair that dull, dry and damage it.

But would using chelating shampoos solve this problem and help thwart the dryness and damage that no-lye relaxers can cause? Or is this too simplistic of a solution?

Also, what do you think is the most effective chelating shampoo?

It wouldn't hurt to chelate/clarify. I always did once I learned about it. I like Kenra clarifying, gets the job done without feeling stripped. Just followup with a good moisturizing DC or Protein condish & Moisturizing DC (depending on what your hair needs)

I wonder if using a chelating shampoo would solve the hair problems that those who use no-lye relaxers experience?

Whisper "bleep boop" to yourself when you're sad.
I always chelated the wash after relaxing for the reasons you stated and proceeded to chelate once a month after that. :yep:

ORS Creamy Aloe is a good chelating shampoo, but the BEST I've ever used was Profectiv's Neutralizing Shampoo Mousse. That stuff is unbelievably awesomsauce.

I always use chelating shampoo after I relax and I use it a week after I relax, so I think it's always a good idea to use a chelating shampoo.

These are not the same thing.

chelating: remove metals or minerals that usually come from chlorinated pools or in the case of hair calcium hydroxide

clarify: remove heavy product buildup.

Yes, I Chelate a week after using MBB No Lye Relaxer or on that first wash. I also re-neutralize.

Oh....Right Now I'm using Joico Chelating Shampoo.:yep:

When I was relaxed I used Profectiv's neutralizing mousse (which also acted as a chelating shampoo) to rinse out the relaxer. I preferred to get everything done(removal of calcium deposits) on the day of my relaxer as opposed to waiting a week. As mentioned previously, ORS creamy aloe shampoo is also a neutralizing and chelating shampoo.

Yeah, I chelate as part of my relaxer process (somewhere after my protein midstep that is). My vote would be same day as relaxer. Otherwise, the deposits can keep the cuticles from closing properly and the hair won't hold moisture well. Why wait?

Yes, I chelate a week after relaxing and then about once per month using Joico Chelating shampoo.

I do make sure, however, to use a protein reconstructor and a very moisturising conditioner.

I actually clarify the day of my relaxer. I've been thinking of getting a chelating shampoo also.
