Long, healthy hair = ISOLATION!?

I think it's weird. I mean...why hate? Just go do it yourself!

I got a FALL, a hairpiece, ya'll, that matches my hair perfectly. It hits somewhere between MBL and WL. I now can tell people think it's my hair. Initially, I thought people just KNEW it was fake!

Well, girls started giving me stank looks and whispering that I thought I was cute. Men started hitting on me in a very... not nice or acceptable way. I was out from morning to night running errands and working on a project. By 9:00pm, I just wanted to cry. I felt like Beyonce, y'all. When my friend called me, I was like, "You want to be my friend?" She said sure. Then we started a singing group and--- oh. Not me.

But the other part is true! It's only a matter of time before they reach up in there and get a handful of net.

One thing for sure, people hate whether you have long hair or not. Insecure people are their own problems, not yours. Live life for self and enjoy the ride.

WEAVE CHECKS???

Girl you different from me because I goes OFF on anyone having the audacity to put their hands down my panties and be bold enough to reveal my personal info by checking to see if my hair is real.

That is highly personal. And to do it gets folks TOLD on my watch.

Girl she ain't lying because there is some MAJOR hating on beyonce by women especially Black women. Lawd they bounce on poor Beyonce . (Although I do know some sincerely don't care for her form of entertainment)

Hey do like beyonce does. She ignores them, continues loving and living her life, and succeeds like a BEAST!

THAT LOOK HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!! Ladies, I'm just so annoyed by it and I don't even like to wear my hair down anymore becuz I don't wanna deal with the drama.....Trust me, I could care less what people think...it just sucks that our some of our sistas resort to jealousy rather than embracing each other's accomplishments...

I agree! That look is sooooo on point!!!!!

Btw I get this from my Caucasian co workers as well. So it's not just a sister's disorder.

I wear my hair up sometimes just to avoid being poked, prodded, pet and asked "is that your hair?". My response "is that your business?!"

I luxuriate in my hair at home and around my real friends. Everybody else can bite me.

No, OP YOU ARE NOT ALONE! :)

I say, if it ain't affecting my cheese, girl please. hmph. Girl, get you some Diva shades, throw up a smirk and keep it moving. Haters only validate that you've got something going on. Get used to it. Apparently you do. *snaps*
Yes i love this!

I don't understand why people get attitudes and get angry over black women with long hair. I've seen people do what you say, find another flaw "she thinks she's cute" or "she's aint ---". I don't understand why people who are attractive or have an attractive quality get put down almost immediately by other women. THAT'S not cute.

And the thing is what's the big deal if it's long or fake or not? Does finding out it's a weave make them feel better? People actually look relieved when they find out another black woman has a weave. That's just sick.

I hate it when I hear this! :lachen: I always think "Well, she's supposed to think she's cute."

It's frustrating isn't it. I by no means have long hair, but I understand what you mean. Something about a beautiful balck woman is powerful and just by being yourself, your shattering century old stereotypes. It's commanding and amazing to see a black woman with healthy long hair. It just is. It's not something I've ever grown up with, the women in my family don't have waist length or hip length hair. It's so uncommon that people can't help themselves. Jealousy brings out the worst in folks and they can't even hide it. We appreciate it because we know the hard work and dedication that goes into growing our hair, but we're on a hair board and 99% of other women have to get past their own hang ups. Inside all those hating females is a little girl who was told, (like most of us), that they're prettier with long hair, but they can't ever grow it themselves so they have to buy it and settle for that.

Yes, it does. In their jealousy clouded eyes, it makes you no better than them. How dare you have something they want but have been led to believe they can't have.

I've always had shoulder length or longer hair since 1st grade. Therefore, family members know I'm capable of maintaining long hair. The 1st time I ever had hair shorter than SL was when I chopped my MBL hair to EL (a faux-hawk style) in Sept. 2007. And, I found I got just as much hate as when I had long hair! Broads in HS used to walk behind me in the hallway saying stuff like, "Now she know that ain't all hers..." and my hair was in a freaking bun at the time.

Since the 2007 drastic cut, I have BC'd my hair twice (06/08, 01/11), and grown it to WL and now to just past BSL both times afterwards in just under 4 yrs. The point is, I know my capabilities and how to take care of MY hair. If others don't believe it or don't like it, I don't waste my time caring or trying to prove a damn thing to them...now if they want hair tips then I will be ever so generous and glad to help!

It can definitely be isolating, b.c. I find that we as Black females can be so damn catty at times, esp. if the woman is of light complexion AND has long hair (sorry to step on toes, but it's true). I've had my own family members HATE on me cuz THEY THINK I THINK I'M all that cuz I maintain my hair and am very skilled at growing it out. Notice I said THEY THINK I think I'm all that...not that I do.

As for ppl (including fam), I don't pay them no attn and keep doing my thing. I don't even hang w. hardly any women cuz I find they eventually start hating or acting stank for one reason or another.:nono:

One reason I maintain a Fotki is so I can show hair growth progress so if anyone wants proof its mine, they can see the stages of growth. If they dnt believe that, forget em (<the polite version of what I really wanna say). Just a realist n I don't tune into ppl that seriously. When I grow my hair to WL, then to HL I'm sure the hate will increase 300%. lmao

ETA: Oh I just read the other posts and yes lawd Bey gets hated on sooo bad but I just love how fierce she is and I just think the other Black women who hate her just cuz need to get over themselves and get a life. OP your hair is beautiful. Swang it and keep on walking

What's the point of having all this hair if nobody gets jealous of me? LMFAO j/k

My hair goes from shoulder length curly to waist length once I pull out the flatiron and I get the double takes from strangers sometimes. I guess I'm so used to flipping my hair everywhere that I have no idea if anybody is looking at it LOL I'm enjoying it and that's all that matters.

But seriously just enjoy it and ignore the comments. Family will get used to seeing you with all that hair.

Yes, it's amazing how people (mostly women) can negatively change with you over some hair! I'm talking about family members. :nono:

I thank God for my hair, and I enjoy it. Jealousy doesn't bother me at all; in fact, I have learned to be amused about people's "attitudes," becaue it just means I'm Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied)...(breakdown of "Blessed" in the Amplfied Bible)

You're just Blessed, OP!

Due to damage etc my hair is now just past SL but when my hair was BSL people would insist it was a weave call me a B for lying and all kinds of stuff. I can't wait to get back to that length so that they can hate again lol.

I can't figure out if I'm hurt or just plain old annoyed. Ever since I decided to grow my hair out two years ago, and actually DID IT, I have seen the ugly side of this business :perplexed Friends actin funny, Girls on the street givin me the side-eye, and family....and I now use that term loosely....where do I start?? Weave checks 24/7, talkin behind my back sayin I'm lying bout my hair....sayin its ain't tracks so it must be strand by strand....:lachen:...and the jealousy is taking all new heights!! Ppl start trying to find other flaws of yours that they can pick on to make themselves feel better...instead of just asking what my hair routine is....I don't get it, but I feel sooooo isolated since reaching BSL and I plan to keep growing so what gives?? Anyone else with similar stories??
:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

Honestly this is something you should try to find humor in. I heard reverend Charles Stanley say this in his message today.... People will see you succeeding, and being stable in your path in life.. and throw a lot of poison your way out of pride, instead of being humble and simply asking you how you've done it!

Hopefully you can make more supportive friends while u wait out the negativity of the old ones :). Good luck

Your curly shrinkage is obnoxious, LOL!!! It does crack me up when curly heads straighten and folks who aren't used to seeing it just don't know how to act

My hair isn't even long according to LHCF :lachen: and yet I've gotten many a side eye when I wear my buns, twist outs, WnG - any style that shows the volume or length of my hair. Even as a natural, weave checks are still in order.

I was in a BSS a few months ago and I was asking about a product behind the counter (it was at a distance and couldn't see). The store clerk said, "that's weave glue; you don't need a weave, your real hair is very pretty!". I felt the daggers on my back behind me. I guess this Asian clerk knew my hair was real when the chicks behind me didn't (they asked 10 minutes before).

Yesterday at a different BSS, I wore a bun and though it was a non filled anemic looking bun, someone asked me about the realness of it. :nono:

Isn't it sad that we black women have "haters" because we have long hair? I don't wear my hair that much straightened because of the same thing. If I wear it in a braidout with my hair pulled back , my hair doesn't look as long and it is less attention seeking. But when I wear it flat-ironed and straight- I feel somewhat embarrassed... like I have to act superhumble or women will hate on me.

I haven't reached those lengths yet and I've already had to the press ignore button on some people.

A couple months ago while at work, I was wearing a bantu knot out when an ex coworker showed up that I hadn’t seen in about six months. She immediately started telling me how good my hair looked and preceding to touch it. I moved my head back so she wouldn’t caress my hair and she said oh girl I forgot how black people are about their weaves. I didn’t bother correcting her, I said thank you and changed the subject.

Exactly. That's why it's so hard to just say Thank you. Sometimes I feel like I should deflect, make a joke about myself, or wave it off so no one suspects me of being "conceited". Which is really ridiculous because I'm not at all and even if I wasn't they would still hate anyway.

Good  I would have loved to see their faces and I would have smiled at them walking out. It's a shame people don't even bother to look they just assume it's a weave.

You shouldn't feel embarrasses at all especially if it's yours. You worked hated to keep your hair healthy so enjoy it and make no apologies for your hair or yourself.
That's giving people too much power over your life and happiness it's also them giving you an inferiority complex if you let them. Be fabulous and don't ever apologize for it.
