I went to a stylist when I was sixteen. That was my first and last time. I'm scared to let stylists work on my hair.

I guess theres no point in me going since I am still growing out a TWA.

What are they gonna do with it besides wash it and run a pick through it?

I gt my hair professionally straightened and my ends clipped twice a year. I'm working on mastering both these skills myselfs that I won't have to rely on stylists when I travel.

Every 6 months for a flat iron only. I wash, condition and blow out my my own hair before I get there. Ever since becoming natural, I am particular about my hair and mostly do it myself.

Usually every 3 months or sometimes less.

I have bangs & I like to keep them clipped, but every time I go she clips my ends & I hate that but they end up always looking super fresh & nice.

i chose every 4- 6 ..

ive been to a stylist 4 times since i stopped relaxers in 2009. first time was to a horrible stylist who did my BC.

Then I went to a great one, once for a trim and twists, the second time jsut for wash and twists.

3rd and 4th, went to a stylist that i like, first time for a flexi rod set, second time for a flat iron and trim. i was very happy.

The key was doing research. I'll prob go back for another flat iron if i have the money in like a month cause it was fierce.

I chose 4-6 months. I find that my hair does not like to go very long without trims. My hair is color treated and needs a lot of TLC. The ends feel and get really scraggly after 3 months. I've gone almost a full year without a trim and the latest time was about 4 months. I'm gonna try to stay around that mark. Oh and I str8n or at least blowout to get my ends trimmed.

I go once every 3 months to dontspeakdefeat because she is a natural hair stylist phenom...She's a member of the forum, so she specializes in healthy hair practices and she is all about helping grow hair to infinity!!!

She also is my colorist!

+1! I've moved to Cali, but I'll be coming back to ATL just to go to her! I mostly go for trims and length check.

In my family we've always done each other's hair in house. I used to pay a braider for extensions back in the 90s but then I learned to install them myself and moved on to twists, locks, etc. Nothing against stylists, and I wouldn't mind paying for pampering on occasion, but I never lived near one who knows how to handle my kind of hair.

I am sooo envious. The last two times I have been to Atlanta I have tried to see her. The first time I was supposed to be in Atlanta for a week visiting my parents but my plane got snowed in and I was stuck in D.C. up until Christmas Eve. Sucked. The second time there was a problem with my visa (I have been living and working outside of the U.S. for a couple of months) and I was stuck in NYC trying to work it out. I will be in Atlanta again in February and my hair needs to see a stylist sooo badly...at this point it's been almost two years since I have seen anyone :look: Hopefully she can help me figure out what I am going to do with it...or I'm cutting it all off. :yep:

I went last month. It wasn't a good experience. Before that the last time I went was in 2008. I have everything I need to do my own hair, and my mom doesn't mind doing my braids or twists. She's about the only other person I trust.

For most of my life, every two weeks for a wash, condition, press and curl. Now it's about once a month due to the bad economy. Also, I've been doing it myself.

i have been to astylist twice since been natural for 3years, they are always too scissor happy form my liking and have lots of bad hair pratices. Both times i went for a atrim and ended upwith a setback :(

About once a year I go to the Ethopian hair salon as a treat. To be honest, I think I do a better job of my hair than they do... :look:

The only time I went to a natural stylist was for my BC. My mom is natural too, so I went to her stylist. She goes every 3 weeks, but she gets too many trims for my personal taste. Her hair should be much longer, especially since she leaves her styles in until just before her next appointment. She is one of those people who doesn't really care about hair, so she gets whatever her stylist suggests.

I like her stylist, I just don't have the time to wait on someone else's schedule. And I like having a more frequent shampoo schedule.

I quit several years ago because I had tried several local shops and braiders without good results. I don't straighten my hair and I always do my own trims.

I haven't been to a salon since 1999. I've had a lot of ups and downs with my hair since then but once I found LHCF I figured it out! Now that I'm approaching WL I am thinking about going to a stylist to straighten and trim. I don't know any stylists I would trust so I will prob just end up diy-ing like always. The area I live in has one natural hair salon and I've bought hair products there but at the time their services focused on braids and locs. I will have to revisit maybe their menu has changed.

I was going every 2 or 3 months. But as of last Friday, I am officially a DIYer. I had the worst experience and lost about 1.5 - 2 inches in the course of a few hours. I usually only go to get my hair colored and/or trimmed. Now, I'll have to learn to do these things myself. I'm too scared to trust someone again.

My last time at a stylist was when I got my last relaxer over 2 years ago. I havent been to one and dont intend to.

Note to self: make learning more styles my 2012 goal

I've been natural for about a year and 8 mos - I have not been to a stylist since. My hair is healthy and well taken care of by me, thanks to the tips I've gotten from LHCF :)

I realize most stylists are educated and professional, but it seems like even when I visited upscale salons, I got very unsatisfactory results. Don't think I'll be visiting another salon anytime in the near future.
