Hi ladies,

Anyone heard of Swang Hair Magazine? Here's a link to the first and what seems like only (?) issue >>http://issuu.com/swanghairmagazine/docs/issue1<<

I'm asking because I received an email from the editor-in-chief of this magazine today inquiring if they could run hair t-shirts I have in my e-store in their next issue.... but my friend said it was sketchy (and I agree)... and I know ladies of LHCF can crack a fake/fraud like professional P.I's :yep::yep:

What say you?

Hmm... my gut doesn't think the mag is sketchy, just looks like a fledgling startup. The website issuu.com is a platform anyone can use to publish a web magazine. There's probably a way for you to advertise your t-shirts in the mag at a low risk to yourself but I can understand if you would prefer a more established publication.

ETA: Audrey, the woman who wrote "The Science of Black Hair", is listed as one of the contributors, you could always ask her about it on Facebook or something..

The editor contacted me via PM requesting I be a hair model. I had several initial questions that I presented because I have a cautious personality. She was very nice when she finally responded but her response to my questions was significantly delayed. She mentioned the delay resulted from her being in the process of moving. She offered up that her magazine is fairly new -- maybe not in those exact words but that's the gist of it. I then responded back with several more questions in which she never responded to.

ETA: I wish her success, though. Perhaps she is just busy with the move, etc. Or, maybe I had too many dang questions. :giggle:

Hi ladies!

I'm the Editor-In-Chief of SWANG Hair Magazine. Yes, I'm still in start-up mode and I thank you for wishing me success with this venture. It's ALOT of work, but I love it!

One of the goals of the magazine is to provide a one-stop resource for haircare info for our friends and family that can't (or won't) spend as much time on the hairboards as we do.

I also want to support Black-owned businesses so I try to feature some of the businesses I come across on LHCF or the blogs. I offered a bunch of small black-owned businesses free ad space in the first issue. That yielded some interesting results. And by interesting I mean eye-opening.

I'm working on the 2nd issue right now and moving across the country has made my response times much slower. divachyk I'll go through my PM's today and answer your questions.

Thanks again ladies!

ETA: typing this from my phone and autocorrect hates me : /

I just clicked through the link, and through the first issue. It looks great to me with tons of information. So what? It's a start up so it's not perfect and it takes time to "build". That's probably why it's not on newstands yet. Congrats on your new endeavor! I hope you have tons of luck.

Thank you! I have taken note of your suggestions and I will be adding them to my massive list of topics to cover :yep:

That first one about trimming is definitely something I want to tackle. We have too many Scissor Happy Stylists out there.

Please let me know if you want to write any of the articles...you have great ideas!

It looks great, much better than those magazines full of "hair information" that are only weaves, etc and not a lot of real hair info.
Wish you luck!

Thanks you very much. I want the focus to be on taking care of the hair that grows out of your scalp, whether you relax it or keep it natural. There will be very little focus on weaves, etc...except as protective styles.
