I haven't the foggiest because I've never used a flat iron.

I've only used stove irons. Yeah. I'm a rule breaker.

370-380, one pass per section. I get my hair just about bone straight with the blow dry, so the flat iron needn't be any higher than that. My hair is about 50% natural, 50% relaxed/texturized.

I use the FHI platform.

Bumping...!!!

I am still researching for the perfect temp for my 4a natural hair. I've watched Kimmaytube's blow-dry/flat iron vids. I want to avoid heat damage at any cost. I plan to flat iron for DH's birthday which coincides with my two-year naptural date.

I have the following heating tools that I've been afraid to use and even thought about selling:

Chi Farouk
Chi Rocket Blowdryer
Maxiglide

The first time I flat ironed in September of 2010, I was really nervous and only set it to 350 and eventually 370 when I realized I wasn't getting that slick look.
This last time, I had to crank it up to at least 410-420 to get the results that I wanted.
Now granted, the roots were pressed at the salon and also flat ironed with the marcel flat iron on a Friday and by Saturday the shaft was all frizzy and I had to flat iron again. I just knew I was getting damage but nothing really noticeable so I'm happy!!!!

Bumping... I think my flat ironing issues comes from being afraid of heat damage. I dont go pass 300. Do you ladies have any problems with reversion??

I was able to do 300 with my roommate's flat iron but I have to use 395 on mine. Go figure.

I have a cheapo Andis flat iron. It goes up to 20 on the settings, but I never go higher than 5. I get my relaxed hair straight in one pass, and then I bump the ends on the second.

I keep trying to turn mine down but I keep finding my self in the upper 300s I stop at 400. Usually takes about two passes. Stays straight until wash day
