Hair Progress 2011-

Chicoro

5 Year Shea Anniversary: Started Dec 16th, 2016!
Hey Everyone,
Attached is my update for November 2011. There are a couple of caveats. First, I pressed my own hair and trimmed it. I haven't done that in many years. Usually I get it done and have my stylist do it. I am not going to have time to get to the shop with the little bit of time remaing in the year and I wanted to have a record of where my hair was for 2011!

This is the first time I have used heat to straighten my hair since September 2010. I pressed my hair with a hot comb. I have coarse, dry, rough hair. When my hair is natural it does not hang. It jumps all the back to my shoulders and stays there.

Observations:
The longer my hair gets, the longer it is taking for the ends to "thicken" up at the longer lengths. In some spots it has grown 3-4 inches. In the September 2011 picture, my hair was dropping in length mostly on the left. Now, in the Nov 2011 photos, the hair has dropped to the newer length on both the left and right sides. :yep:

This is the "awkward" stage for my hair ends. I am in the middle of reaching my goal. Too far to go back and too far away to quit. I am not going to cut off the hair at the bottom for two reasons1) it's not unhealthy as in there are no large areas of splits and (2) I usually wear my hair up in braids in protective styles. Although the ends have begun to get fuller to match the bulk of the hair, the ends are still some what wispy and thinner. But I have seen this several times before. If I am persistent in my care and patient, the ends will eventually thicken. This time around is taking much, much longer though.

I am happy with my results. The longer it gets, the more patient I have to be to see gains in thickness and in length. Along with cultivating your regimens and product staples, you may want to learn to cultivate patience, too. Sigh...

Goals going forward:
Maintain my hair at this length until the rest of the hair catches up. This has been the proven growing pattern of my hair. The photos I have taken and kept over my hair journey have helped me learn this pattern and have helped me stay on track. That's why I advocate taking photos of your hair, even when it is not where you want it to be.

Absolutely beautiful hair.

And THANK YOU for being such a selfless mentor to the natural hair community. So many of us owe the knowledge we now have to you and the trail you blazed.

I know I for one will be dedicating my first WL lead hair to you

i love your hair so much, it's so thick and lush looking. It's been my inspiration for a while.

It's good to know that you're hair takes longer to thicken up at the longer lengths (well not good in that way) because i was wondering why my hair hasn't like it did before.

You mentioned you are in the middle of reaching your goal, what is your ultimate goal?

Hi! My next goal is to thicken up my hair at this new longer length. It may or may not happen. That will be the focus for me in 2012.

Oh, yeah one of my favorite 'hair moments' of the year was hearing you and Kimmaytube on nappturalite radio. You were so real. Thank you for all that you do.

Yay it's Chicoro!! Your hair looks awesome as always. Did you use a heat protectant before pressing? If so, what did you use?
