I need to learn how to flat twist.

Really, I need variety. Two strand twists can't be it forever. Me and my family are style-challenged and I haven't found any good YT videos on flat twisting yet, none that seem easy, anyway. How did you learn? I don't have a dummy head to practice on, I'll be doing it on my own but too much manipulation is horrible so I'm looking to make this a 30 minutes or less kind of thing.

Any tips at all?

Hi Nerdstruck I don't know how to do flat-twists but my cornrows look like flat twists and I believe hold better so that's what I do.

You can sort of get an idea of what my cornrows look like when you look at this enlarged one done on braid extensions:

What I did was when doing 2 strand twists, I would practice doing flat twists in the front. So I would do two flat twists on each side going around my edges. This allowed me to get comfortable with the twists.

After a while, I just took an afternoon to do my entire head. I twist the back upwards towards the crown and then do whatever design I want in the front. I set aside an afternoon because flat twist are fast but learning how to twist the back requires patience and time.

I'm not a master but they are presentable enough to wear to work.

Thanks Faith, I'll practice on the front only first.

Nonie: I don't know how to cornrow either. :( I'm only good with 2-strand twists and box braids.
