Relaxed/Texlaxed TOP 3 Tips for HEALTHY, Long Hair!

Hmmm, my top 3 would be:

1) protective styling and moisturizing my hair as much as possible

2) deep conditioning weekly actually works better than once every 2 weeks for me. I hate admitting this but it's true.

3) Sticking to my hair health vitamin regimen without fail along with ample water intake.

The tips are definitely consistent, very helpful Ladies :).

Very small sections and smoothing. I always work in a downward motion to combat the fizz and tendency to fro. It was actually my first time trying this but it really worked. I will be doing this from now on and the best part is is didn't seem to take more time.
Interesting philosophy @Bun Mistress, thanks for sharing :yep:. I'm still a (healthy) relaxed newbie so I don't have super solid techniques yet. However, any issue I have seems to boil down to manipulation, like how to best handle my hair post braid-out/knot-out. I'll definitely keep your techniques in mind..

1) I like what havilland said - stretch as long as you can without issues. For me, that is 10-12 weeks.

2) Moisture/Protein Balance. I was so focused on moisture moisture moisture, but when I began incorporating more protein I had a lot less breakage. Recent lesson.

3) Limiting heat styling.

Bun Mistress I've been experimenting with finger combing only and it's working well so far :yep: I'm finding that I can transition easier from a knot-out/braid-out by applying product, finger-combing in section,s and smoothing in a downward motion with my hands. Loving this simple philosophy!

1. Stretching Relaxers (for me that's 12+ weeks, but 8+ works as well). -- Full/Thick Relaxed Hair
2. Deep Conditioning (with Moisture and/or Protein). -- Healthy Relaxed Hair
3. Limiting the frequency of Heat usage. -- Long Relaxed Hair.

I like to use oil and aloe vera gel to detangle either a little in between washings or a lot right as a prepoo. I'm glad it's working for you.

Also if you are trying to airdry you hair a little straighter (my texlax hair is very close to my natural hair) I use the satin scarf braidout method with 4 big plaits. Then I go from there either a knot out, or pin curl

Good things come in 3's:)! Here are my three:
1. Long relaxer stretches- ( my case, 25 wks.)
2. Air dry - no heat -( for a year, so far)
3. Moisture, Moisture, Moisture

bi-weekly deep conditioning in the summer.

@chrstndiva, what light protein product are you using?
I use:

Nexxus Keraphix - on relaxer day (mid-step protein because it has protein and ceramides)
Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator - Just started using this. It has hair keratin and makes my hair both soft and strong. I can't see using this more than 1x month.
ORS Replenishing (used to use every other week on wash/co-wash day, but may use less because I have added Joico K-Pak to my regime)

This is it for protein for me. Most of the time its deep conditioners and ceramides (wheat germ oil, hemp seed oil, biolage cera repair, Nexxus Humectress).

1. Read your ingredients. Mineral Oil in your Deep Conditioner= find a better dc.
2. Protein Treatment every week. Sometimes with a Moisturizing treatment too.
3. Learn how to detangle without pulling.

In just the past 3-4 months I've seen a huge difference in my shedding and breakage. So I'm finally seeing some growth trying to happen.

Great thread!


1. Deep condition with heat after every wash once a week.
2. Rollerset your hair then let it airdry or sit under a warm dryer
3. Protective style moisturize and seal ends

(When you airdry always set your hair don't let it just dry while out)
