Yes, as a lifelong natural, it was my expectation too when I used to straighten my hair on a regular basis. But the difference between what I used to get and what Nikki got is probably 150 degrees. I didn't know it was possible to get hair that silky at a lower temperature.

If you notice, when the stylist was straightening her hair, she was straightening paper thin sections. That's probably why she was able to use a lower temperature.

Look at the second picture, in particular, to see just how thin those sections were.

this is the same stylist who does her mom and sis's hair - their hair is so luscious, silky, and shiny and she uses low heat w/ them too! not surprised that niiki's hair turned out so beautifully in the hands of thus stylist. :yep:

OMG!!! it looks great but I was wondering why her hair was never getting that long, she was cutting it. I guess everyone just don't want super duper longer LOL it really look nice.

I hope she'll expand on this because I have watched myself. Is this a one time cut thing or is this her hair staying the same length? Because I know my hair can't take a ton of manipulating and twisting away. I wanted to duplicate her method but find a way to make it last longer and/or just put my hair up in between and only do the twist out thing every two weeks so that my hair can continue to grow (esp if her method slows things down at least for fine haired ppl like myself). My hair retains much better when I leave it alone and my new goal is bootay length (or just above so that I don't sit on my hair). Don't know why but I want to get there and I don't want to try anything "new" until I'm sure it won't impede my progress. So far leaving it alone and moisturizing does wonders for me.

Whoa! What beautiful results! It looks feathery light and silky smooth.

Why can't I live in STL?

Are you talking about silky with your hair looking like this!!! (off to stalk you like a hawk and see if you have any tips on roller setting for when I'm out of protective styling)

I know this is a sign I've been on LHCF too long but I expected it to be longer. She does not have much shrinkage at all (compared to me and I'm nowhere near the shrinkiest). Didn't she say she hadn't had a cut since like 2006 or something?

I must have been here for too long too because I can name 20 women on LHCF who's hair looks a lot better than hers. I also though it would be a lot longer...

SHE DOESN'T WANT LONG HAIR LOL:lachen: I think it's hard for folks on this board to remember that bc this board is all about it, but awhile ago if you follow her she said that when her hair gets long it's too thin looking and she loves having full body, so she decided awhile ago to keep cutting it to maintain a shorter length to look fuller

She wants her hair to stay the same length. She trims it often to stay that length. That's why her hair isn't hecka long.....

Public service announcement. Tis all

Wow! Her hair was beautiful, and really straight. I need to figure out how to get my hair that straight for my next straighten job in the spring.

i think the majority of us coming in here was expecting something different as far as length, but it seems she likes her hair to be at medium length stretched. so be it. her flat iron pics look lovely. what's crazy is that that, it is not going to be chin length anymore when she washes it. that stylist cut a lot to even it. i think Nikki liked that it was longer in the front and shorter in the back.

maybe Argan Oil and very small, thin sections? it is going to take some time for that, so be patient when you try it out.

My exact thoughts. I'm going to try it today.

Her hair is really pretty.

I wonder if someone with a different texture than curly nikki's (which silky and easy to straighten)could get similar results with low heat.

pretty! I never desired long hair as an adult b/c my hair was fairly long as a child and I cared more about flyyy styles (80's child here) as an adult. It's only recently that I wanted longer hair again.

TBH though, I think my hair looks best around BSL/MBL even though I know it can be close to TBL. Thin looking really long hair is a fail IMO.

ITA. gorgeous hair and it seems like the stylist has a good technique (low heat, paper-thin sections, good oil). i just wonder if that'd work on my hair though

I know I'm being a bit particular but "snipping the ends" sounds like trimming, not cutting. To maintain the exact same length for five years, she'd have to be "snipping" away 6 inches of growth per year. "Snip" doesn't seem to cover it.

Not hating though! Love Nikki, love her hair, think it looks great. These are just the crazy thoughts LHCF plants in my head.:drunk:

I know this is late, but I was just thinking that not everyone's hair even grows 6" a year. I know mine does not. 6" is just average, not cut and dry.

luckiestdestiny that is Curly Nikki's hair not Tiffers.

Nikki's hair is very pretty. I only get results like that once in a while, and I was texlaxed. I don't think I'll straighten until I reach my 1 year natural anniversary.

My guess? Umm...NO :nono: lol

I know my kinky hair would laugh at a low temp setting, even with "paper thin" sections. Just proved it with my recent flat iron attempt- EPIC FAIL

Wow! That's a really great stylist. We don't see too many of those. I also think the health of her hair is contributing to the whole wow factor.
