One side longer than the other..

Does anyone else experience this?
The left side of my hair is soo much longer than the right, maybe by like 2-3 inches.
The ends of the left side is heat damaged, but funnily enough i swear it's helped me to retain length, cause I don't see why its grown so long, whilst the right side is lagging behind.

Do you think as the ends of the left are straighter, they're less likely to tangle, get ssks and break?

Otherwise, i don't have a clue what i'm doing wrong :(

This is something members have posted about in passing but Ive found hard to specifically search for. One member made a comment in the "small things that make a big difference" thread that she was right handed and her purse strap was always over her right shoulder. Also, she tended to put product in her left hand and inadvertedly favor the left side.

This was a big thing for me to read because I do the EXACT same thing. I "favor" certain parts of my head. the right side of my nape is shorter by maybe 2 inches. It is suuuch an inconvenient spot to brush and moisturize. My front is thick and lush and healthy because i can readily see it and thus it gets a more thorough job. My purse strap also rests on my right shoulder and i knew hair would get caught under it but never thought anything of it until now.

I suggest you think closely about what you may be doing to one side of your hair that you don't do as thoroughly or even at all to the other. That's my suggestion. HTH

Before I stumbled on LHCF thats how my hair was always. No matter if i cut my hair blunt to make them equal. They grow back the same way. I never understood why. But once I started taking care Of my hair and PSing 99% of the time, my hair started to grow evenly.

So if you are not PSing enough, maybe you should try to do that more and moisturize, moisturize so ur hair wont snap and break from dryness

The front of my hair is heat damaged and it never has ssks and grows faster than my natural hair and is never tangled.

Hmmmmm

I recently had the same problem. One side was extremely longer than the other. I ended up cutting it a few days ago so that my hair could be even :cry3: . It's been talked about on the board before a few times-- everyone has different reasons why one side was shorter than the other. You don't have to cut it unless you like wearing your hair straight, like I do.

My left side is denser, breaks less and is about 1" longer than my right side. I've tried to baby my right side by applying product to it first (allowing things like protein treatments and DCs to sit on that side longer), in more sections, be more gentle when detangling, etc. It generally isn't noticeable because I wear a lot of braidouts, but when I wear my hair straight it drives me nuts! I'll be lurking in this thread for tips.

When I first started my HJ, the right side of my hair was longer than the left side. It always looked like something was eating away at it.

When I stopped wrapping my hair and using heat all together, the retention on my left side grew out tremendously.

I used to sit and watch TV in the evenings with my head resting in my left hand. I would constantly massage and stimulate my scalp. That side was longer. Then I moved and my living room was set up different. Now my right side is longer, but I haven't figured out why.

When I was relaxed and wore my hair down I had this same issue. The right side of my hair was longer, thicker and just seemed healthier. It turns out that it's because I ALWAYS wrapped my hair in one direction.

I might be putting too much thought into this, but I notice that my left side is nicer, thicker, grows longer and is denser than my right side. I tend to agree with the poster that mentioned about being right handed, and being able to better tend to the left side of my head. I also tend to agree with the sleeping on the same side at night theory as well. Hair wrapping to one side is a huge one too.

Here's what I noticed not long ago. Just like the rest of my body, I'm not completely symmetrical. Like, one arm is noticeably longer than the other, or one boob sits lower than the other. Or how about, how my actual HAIRLINE seems to be uneven...

What I mean is, I noticed that on my thicker/nicer/longer side, my hairline around my face seems to be more forward than on the weaker/thinner/shorter side. The hairline on the shorter side seems to set back further on my head. In other words, not even my hairline across my face is symmetrical. It's not easy to see unless you're studying it the way I was...

I just live with trimming my good side to try and level it out with my retarded side.

:nono: My left and right sides are noticablely loopsided and completely different textures too...My left side is 3c and my right is more 4a. So I think my right needs more attention and different products. Im going track how it goes with to different reggies for each side.

My hair is shorter on the right side as well. It's been this way for as long as I can remember. The right side is also the side I sleep on and it's the bad side of my face.

That was me! Don't cut just keep doing what your doing, had that issue all my life, until the boards. Now they are even and they even and the same length. Stop the things pre_medicalrulz says if u r doing them

My left side is also longer and softer texture. However I noticed that when I was on maternity leave the right side caught up a lot. I think the fact that I wasn't going to work daily with a bag on my right shoulder made a big difference.

Sometimes I just have to trim cos there's a certain little patch on the left that grows noticeably longer quicker than the rest and looks odd if I leave it.
