Are there any naturals that press or flat iron their hair regularly and have NEVER suffered from heat damage? If so please tell us your secret.

MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE!!! Can't say it enough. protein every now and again for me anyway. Also make sure that you use tools that have heat settings I am about to change to some of those tools. I also use Silicone Shine Serum for blow dry and flat iron I like it because you can still snap your fingers when you put it on your hands, which lets me know it is not greasy at all. I love it :lick::lick::lick: it smells like cherries too.

I agree with the moisture. I got to the salon most times so I make sure to not use any heat in between appointments unless I have no other option. I wash and blow dry my hair before I go to the salon so I always DC for at least an hour and occasionally I use Tresemme Thermal Protection Shampoo and Conditioner.

I haven't suffered from heat damage. Secret? There isn't a secret imo. Like some of the ladies posted, it's all about moisture. I always tell people that my hair gets most of it's moisture from deep conditioning.

I did not suffer from any heat damage until I let someone blow dry my hair using a round brush.

momi I think that happened to me! I'm trying to pinpoint when this happened and seems like when I began getting Dominican wash and sets/blow outs. Ugh' they were so swangy and pretty tho. What is your regimen otherwise?

No heat damage and I flat iron my leave out every 2-4 weeks. I deep condition often, air dry, and never use more than 360. Gets my hair very straight and I don't worry about breakage during the week

The key for me was a better serum and not being afraid to turn up the heat. Also don't freak out if you wet your hair and it doesn't look exactly the same. I almost thought I had heat damage until I clarified and got all those cones out of my hair.

Never had heat damage in my life. Used to get my hair straightened every 2 weeks at intervals in my childhood with the old school setup. I have coarse sized strands.
The woman who did my hair would say that my hair could take some heat though.I still won't push it by abusing heat.
I am not a straight hair natural. There are no secrets, but there are some things I never deviate from:

-I will flatiron no sooner than every two weeks if I want to wear my hair straight.
-I deep condition every time I wash my hair
-I only straighten on freshly washed/dc'ed hair once. No touchups in between, it's unnecessary.
- I don't crank up my flatiron to high temps. I use a sedu around <360 degrees.
-I don't use blowdryers. I hate them and all of that pulling even gently and at lower temps is unnecessary for me. I hate how my hair feels stretched within an inch of its life afterward.
-I always use a heat protecting serum. No exceptions.

I can't say I have. I've used heat regularly for years(2+) and I have not had a strand of hair stay straight permanently yet. It always has some sort of coil, curl, wave. My hair in the front/crown/top area is so close to a 3c 'type' that it is the area that tends to just wave sometimes. But my 4a/b coils are always intact and when they droop any it's ok cause my cond.'s are proteined based or my henna tends to tighten them right back up. Btw..with all my experimenting I just made it to about 3in. from apl (I know that's nothing, but) and then chopped (personal reasons/frustrations) last month.

But, I'm really glad I did. It's even healthier and thicker, and I flat-iron every week still. As far as a secret goes: Idk, I may have to come back once I pass APL and still have the same results I've always had.

Another co-sign for MOISTURE. That's the first step in preventing heat damage. Follow that with a heat protectant and then flatiron on a reasonable temperature.

My hair gradually stopped curling back up. I think it has to do with the frequency and the length of time I wear my hair straight. After braiding it up for a few months under a wig the curls reappear like magic. But they wont ever be as tight as they were :(
