When you do deep conditioners do you comb it through first?

Realize I loose a lot of hair trying to comb it through before I get under the dryer so I thought I would wait until after while I was rinsing it through under the water and comb it through like the Dominicans do at the salon but the Shea moisture conditioner doesn't make it that soft to comb through so I can't even do that so I have to apply my redken heat protector and it gives my hair instant slippage, I can comb through so easily. While my hair is dry I comb my hair the correct way from ends to the root and there is minimal breakage but my problem is when it's wet, I really don't know how to deal with it when it's wet, even when I comb it the same way. So I just came to the conclusion my hair only likes to be combed when after I washed it and add moisture to it. Anybody else's hair like that? Or do yal have a system down packed?

If dry detangling is working for you go with it.

Personally I have major breakage wet combing and havent got that down yet so I leave it until after DC'ing and detangle based on how I style:

Blow drying/Air drying: I would have my hair in 4 sections and apply leave in/heat protectant, air dry in sections until 80%, detangle in sections then blow dry in sections (Or leave it to completely air dry)

Bantu knots/Braids/Rollersets: Apply leave ins to the hair, then detangle each small section of hair before I set the roller, plait or bantu knot

I would suggest that you finger detangle and use a detangling shampoo while in the shower and only comb through after your hair is tangle-free.

I like to apply my conditioner from root to tip to make sure all of the conditioner sinks through. Also try adding an oil or conditioner on dry hair to detangle it. Deep conditioning on dry hair has worked wonders for me. Almost no breakage in the shower and I notice my hair is softer and more moisturized since conditioner takes better on dry hair. At least for me it does.

I used to apply my conditioner when my hair was soaking wet and had the same issue.

I only comb conditioner through when I'm freshly relaxed until I'm about 3 months post. When I get to that 3.5-4 month mark, I try to just work it in and smooth it on without too much manipulation, my new growth is too fierce.

Edit: Are you detangling before you wash your hair? That makes a big difference in manageability when wet.

Try detangling when you first put the product in your hair, or before you even start the process.

I just detangle before washing (if hair is straight) or right after i apply conditioner (if hair is curly).

However, I try to just use my hands/fingers to work the DC in.

i dont, i wait till after i wash it out to detangle it. i find that the tangles come out easier after i dc

I have to comb thur my deep conditioner- it helps to fully detangle my hair so once I wash it out my hair is already detangled (mostly). If I don't comb it through it takes forever to detangle my hair. I can only detangle my hair when it's wet; if it's dry my head ends up sore :) . I think some dc'ers are better for detanging than others.

Well I know that conditioner doesn't provide any slip Bc it doesn't have any cones in it. My best bet would be to rinse the dc w/o coming through.. Then take an inexpensive condish apply then comb out.. As a final rinse, something like a sauve or vo5

^^^ I don't think a conditioner needs to have cones to have slip. I use a lot of slippy conditioners with no cones.

I coat my hair from the ends up until about 2/3 of the way than let it sit. After it's sat for about 3-5 I detangle from the ends of up, then rinse. This results in way less tangles and combing for me.

IMHO I'd stop using this as a detangler if I were you....there are plenty of cheap conditioners out there that you could use to detangle. I'd use the heat protectant for what it is a heat protector.

When I was texlaxed I would comb through with DC in my hair. Now that I am natural I don't. I DC with my leave in conditioner after washing my hair. But it HAS to have a lot of slip and I also have to spritz my hair with water when I do each section.

I tried detangling dry hair and it broke off my hair REALLY bad. Other women can get away with it though.

Sometimes, I feel like I get more even coverage and a better DC when I brush it through my hair first, but if my hair is really tangled I'll wait until after the DC and it's softened up.

I comb through my hair while it is saturated with deep conditioner. This is right after I deep conditioned with heat. After deep conditioning with heat, my hair is super soft with slip. I can detangle my hair a lot easier this way.

I do I comb my hair before I wash but it still gets tangled and I loose a lot of hair

Same here:yep:

I cannot detangle on dry hair...i have to have some water on my hair to detangle it or i am asking for Breakage City:nono:.

I've recently started using my DC as my detangler as well...i apply it after shampooing and detangle with my fingers and then a shower comb/denman brush...and then i just put more on and let it sit while i finish my shower. So far its been working just fine.

Can you name some?! :)

A few I have used recently that gave me good slip: CJ Curl Rehab, Hairveda SitriNillah, Purabody Chocolate Smoothie, Spiral Solutions Deeply Decadent (not sure they are still selling this), Live Clean Argan Restorative Conditioner, B.a.s.k Chocolate Smoothie. But what is considered slippy will vary from individual to individual. I have found adding glycerin or even aloe vera gel (if your hair can handle it) to any conditioner gives it so much slip.

I just washed my hair and used one of yal ideas of deep conditioning without combing through rinsing out and using a cheapie conditioner (hollywood cholesterol, if that's a cheapie lol but it's a forgettable for me because I abandoned it a while ago) to put on after and comb thru and then rinse out and I had way less breakage, I'm making it apart of my regimen thanks ALOT!
