ya know that's a great question, but i wanna add my 2 cents.
caution: just 'cause someone has pics of ear length to ankle length doesnt mean their advice or product rec's are worth anything. they could be a hater too:lol:

i rarely look at someone's hair when taking advice. i've disabled signatures since they'd gotten ridiculously big and just silly(look below. lol) and i'm not interested in scrolling through people's fotki's or pm'ing them for all 1200 of their passwords for each individual album:lol:

if you really think about it, dr.miracles, lustrasilk, pink oil moisturizer, and that wild growth foolishness all have Pictures of some woman, actually multiple women with gorgeous hair. And we all know most of their products are garbage. and their advice not worth a you know what.

"you should believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear."

wait that quote's not helping my side of the debate.

If something makes sense and is informative I'll definately take heed. Now on the flip side if I see a post saying I found a magic potion that grew my hair two inches in 3 weeks, you need to have some pics.

I voted yes because it may be an item I wanted to know more about. I dont care if a pic is up or not about products raved on here for my hair type.

Yes I would. I've done it before, and I'll do it again. I received and used advise from Jade21 and reached my hair length goal.

I take advice from everyone. I'm interested in every hair type and style! :D
I even take notes on how people self relax even though I haven't relaxed my hair more than 2 times in my life. I'm thinking maybe I can pass on the knowledge to my friends LOL.

Although I have to admit, I'm not going to change my current routine unless something sensational comes along!

I have no problem taking advice from people without pictures as long as the advice seems reasonable and sound for my hair. I won't, however, usually heed product recommendations from people who don't have 4a-b textures. That's the only thing, though. I'll take tips on techniques from anyone - I learned about mesh rollers from Albane, who has type 2-something hair and about color from Tracy, who has 3-ish hair. So it's all good, but for me to try out a product, it has to be recommended by someone with hair texture approximating mine.

I agree. I think my hair is a 4a. The products used by someone with type 2 or 3 hair will not work for me. Rollers, wrapping techniques...yes. Products..... most likely no.

It's kind of hard beacause I like to see the progress. Also would only take advice from people with my hair type because why would I aspire for that particular look, (length or thickness) when its already determined by genetics. Like my hair passes shoulder length but I know it will never be BSL.

i take advice from ppl w/o pics. since i'm lazy i hardly even look at pics anyway, esp if their album is password protected lol. now, when it comes to someone with a different hair type or natural, i don't take their advice.

I voted "yes". Pictures don't matter if the advice sounds logical. I do tend to look for other 4a/4b relaxed heads. But I will read ALL the suggestions - maybe I can modify something to fit my needs!

Okay, I know you're new, but stuff like that last sentence ain't gon fly round here. IF YOU BELIEVE, YOU WILL ACHIEVE!!:D These ladies will be quick to tell you that the only thing keeping you from growing your hair to whatever length you want is YOU. If you care for your hair properly, it will grow to waistlength and beyond as many of the lovely ladies here(many with pictures) will attest to.

I'm a newbie and don't have a fotki or pictures up yet, so I do take advice from anyone. I'm still learning, but I take more product recommendations from folks with 4a/b hair, or 3c.

At this point, I know my hair enough to know what I just won't bother trying, even if it works for others. I look at advice based on my hair problem or need and then hair type. Pics are not needed (I had no photo for the longest, and I still only have this one), although I love to see them.

It depends. The old adage, "The proof is in the pudding," holds true for me. As other posters have mentioned, I will try something if it sounds logical. Logic doesn't need pictures. But, if it is some unknown product that only one person seems to know about, I will wait for proof.

ITA. I STILL don't have pics being technologically challenged . . .

You have to use logic. I dont always need pictures either. I even take advice from Naturals even tho my hair is relaxed. I just do what seems logical to me and my hair.

OK don't throw stones at me because i will throw them back:lol:

I say no because I have trust issues. I need to see what you are talking about to even think about it a lil because I'm not a PJ. If i was to try a new product in my hair It would be something I thought about long and hard. I want to see what it did for your hair first before I try it. so I must see pic if not I will just be happy for you and move on.

No. Only because I'm a visual person and for me seeing is believing but I wouldnt doubt their advice just wouldnt be running to take it.

Anything Is Possible
I have taken advice from folks without pictures. Although, I enjoy viewing the progress pictures, products and hair care regimen. I must say I learned a great deal from sisterslick and others on lhcf prior to joining I could not view fotki password protected it just made good old fashion common sense.

Yep. As long as it makes sense, it doesn't matter whether they have pics or not. It's not guaranteed that you're hair will have the same results as theirs because everyone's hair reacts differently to different products/techniques anyway, so why would pictures matter?

Since I don't have pictures, the answer would be I really don't care as long as the advice is sound.

I've never felt that just because you see it would make it so. There's lots of women on this very site that use some products that makes me break out in hives, but they have some luscious hair!

So being that I don't post pictures, (I do have them but I don't share them with anyone outside of family/close friends) I DO in fact try to give the best and most sound advice that I can.

That also means that I know that any product reviews I do may get overlooked by the majority, but thats ok and understood because I know most people are extremly visual here, so no biggie.

But on the other hand I've ran into some really interesting things along the way in my hair journey and do try to share them because they can also help others. Even if I can help one person thats good enough for me.

Yes, I have and would again. Of course, seeing great results does help me to trust the advice given gets credible results.

I think there is an assumption that not having pics means that a girl has short, damaged hair or is unattractive. We know that's not true--Allandra held out on us for years!

I get health, nutrition and exercise advice from people I've not seen. I trust that they are fairly knowledgable, but they don't have to be buffed with a 24 inch waist in order for me to try the advice. Most of the time, someone unqualified will refain from giving alot of advice anyway.

So no, the person does not have to post pics. Of course, I've heard some of the worst advice from long haired sisters--including my own sister. So it helps, but isn' t the deciding factor.

Yes, I would if the advice made sense to me. Honestly, I don't look at albums or keep up with people's progress. The only time I even pay attention to anyone's hair is if it's in their avatar or in their signature and I see it.

Also, even if they do have pics and my exact hair type that is no guarantee that their advice will work for my hair or my lifestyle. So yeah, while a picture can be a bonus they don't hold all that much weight with me because I know for a FACT that at least 2 members in the past have posted fake pics trying to pass them off as their real hair. Please don't ask me how I found out! Basically, it's all just a leap of faith. It doesn't really matter what worked for her, it may or may not work for me. You take the same risk, picture or no picture.

More than anything, I'm less likely to take advice from people that don't have much of a board presence. A newbie or someone that has been a member for 3 or 4 years and only has 20 posts. I would much rather take advice from people who I have gotten to know through their posts and the members that I regard as my friends. I would take the advice of Allandra(who has no pics) because she has crediblity over the advice of "SuzyNewMember/Lurker" with a picture in her signature of her gorgeous hair.

MizAvalon, thanks for saying what I've been thinking. Especially, the part about taking it on faith that the pics reflect results as claimed OR that the pics are even real (how did you find out?!) OR if real, whether my hair will have similar results. I mean, you have to kinda take it all on faith (and use common sense) when interacting anonymously on boards like LHCF . . .

I'd take advice if you don't have pics if the advice is reasonable.

However, I'd be more encouraged to take advice if I can see pictures. It's motivating!

But if your album is tore back I'm not taking your advice either.

Everything that arcadian and MizAvalon said was what I was going to say. Especially that I hardly ever go to fotki's unless there's a thread about it or something else makes me curious for a reason. Now if you have gorgeous pics in the avatar and siggy, then I'm all over those!

I don't like putting my pics on the net and only do so when I get excited or gutsy for a hot second like I did that first time, but then I took 'em down. People can choose whether or not to take my advice. That's cool.
