What do you do to achieve this and how often do you flatiron?

What is your hair length?

I know there are several threads about flatironing natural hair but many don't flatiron their hair sleeky straight.
So to those that do please reply:grin:

I flatiron maybe twice a year and i do it silky straight.

I always start off with freshly shampooed and deep conditioned hair. I then section and and lightly mousturize with kinky curly knot today. I use kknt because its light and won't weight my hair down. Before i blowdry I apply Paul Mitchell relaxing balm and some tressame heat protectant.

Once blowdried. I section my hair off to 3 sections and apply about a dime size of Paul Mitchell super skinny and a little more heat protectant. I then do very small sections, no bigger than 1/4 inch thick, and flatiron using the comb chase method.

It takes forever and this is why i only do it twice a year. My hair is bsb and this is after I took off 3 inches in March because i felt it was too much work because it was too long!! Now I miss it when I wear my hair in wng

I'm between WL and HL.

I use very little if any product on hair after its freshly washed. I may use a few sprays of heat protectant, but a very small amount.

I blow dry using tension, then flat iron small parts using comb chase method. If there is any part I didn't get really good like my edges, I hot comb those areas.

Then I apply a small amount of serum, Argan oil, etc.

The key for me is little/no product and small sections to flat iron.

Are your ends bushy using this method? I did that last night and my ends were so bushy, I think that's why I got a lot of breakage while flat ironing my hair. The very ends were breaking off like crazy. I have 4b hair by the way.

I use WEN/613 to cleanse, then DC overnight, usually with Nutress Moisturizing protein pack (love, love, love :love2:). After I rinse, I spray with Aphogee Green Tea Reconstructor. I blowdry lightly, then flatiron on 375 degrees, with one pass. I have a Sedu Revolution, which I also love, but I have been using my Coroliss KS flatiron, with the argan steam treatment. Sleek, bouncy, and shiny hair every time.

I am a fine haired natural, 3-4, depending on where my head you look :look: I am anywhere between BSL/MBL. I have some layers

I wash and deep condition. I airdry over night in 4 braids if I have time (if not, I blowdry with the comb attachment). Before flatironing, I use FX Special Effect Silk drops. I start from the back and I use the comb chase method.

I flatiron my hair 4 times a year. I'm between hl and tbl.

I round brush for tension and so far I haven't experienced bushy ends. If I use my denman I will see bushy ends.

I wash my hair and DC overnight. The next dAy I rinse out the dc, separate my hair into 4 sections, and apply Giovanni direct leave in conditioner and either Paul mitchel or silk elements heat protectant. I blow dry each section with the comb attachment and get my hair as straight as I possibly can, especially the ends so they won't be frizzy. To flat iron I use a maxi glide on setting 7/8. I flat iron in very small sections with one verrrrrrrrrry slow pass. It helps me to comb the ends with a rat tail comb right before each pass to make sure they're not tangled. Always get silky smooth results.

I rollerset first and only flat iron the roots if required. I only place oil on the hair after I flat iron...I never flatiron with any oils. Protectants with silicone will make my hair dry and block moisture hence no heat protectors.

I wonder why is she the only one who rollersets first? I do the normal stuff, shampoo, DC over night, blow out with tension method. I've tried the no product other than heat protectant method and my silky curls came out fluffy straight. I used Redken Antisnap and smooth down heat glide and my hair came out sleeker but no swang. Next time I flat iron I'm going to try rollersetting first in hopes of getting that elusive swang!

Crisco. I got the best press using crisco.

^Ditto^

I just shampoo and DC and thoroughly detangle in 4 sections. I usually use a wide tooth comb followed by my Denman brush to be sure to be tangle free. I apply my heat protectant over my leave in. (don't put too much of either:))

Then, i blowdry using the tension method, i put my hair in twists as i go. And then i unravel the twists and put a weency amount of Crisco on it and then flat iron using the comb chase method.

You talkin bout shine....and SWANG??!:thud:

shortt29 and Transformer Do yall have that full body silky flowing hair doing this method?

Yes however I think it is all in the technique. I ponytail roller set a certain way so that my roots are straight however when I flat iron, I flip my wrist a little so that my roots have body

I have a lot of body but also full bouncy curls. I'm older and therefore don't do the "Gwyneth Paltrow straight" look. I think my hair is considered bra length or mid back....not sure what are the markers...I just know it is below my bra.

However this method is the best straightening method for my hair. DD hair is about the same length, however she will use the rollerset method and then flat iron out the curls---I think it's an age thing.

After I shampoo and deep condition, I spray on a little Tresemme Heat Tamer Spray before I blow dry. After my hair is dry, I'll rub in a little Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum (I use the generic version from Sally's). Then I'll take my Chi and flat iron in very small sections using the comb chase method. I get silky results everytime.

I'm not sure if this matters, but I wash and blow dry my hair in sections. I'm BSL.

Eta: I straighten about every 3 weeks.

Is the Crisco heavy? I would like to try it but not if it will leave my roots super flat and stuck to my scalp...my hair is too thin so I need body and movement

shortt29 not at all! All i do is swipe my finger across it and put it on my hair. U shouldn't even see the Crisco on your finger when you swipe it...yes...that much is enough!:yep:

If you use more than that it will be heavy.

Maracujá

November 2020 --> 14 years natural!!!
LiberianGirl told me that the secret was a good deep conditioning treatment and she was so right. Other than that I just blow dry first, then use a hot comb and then flat iron on a very hot setting (I wouldn't advise this last piece though).
