I cut my hair off today, yall. -MASSIVE POST- *pics*

I couldnt help but notice the amount of people starting over. It seems alot of us are just tired of it.

Anyways, I got my hair relaxed today and I've been stretching since March. Its been uneven as hell and grazing APL for awhile now, and I guess the recent days of looking at the hair porn thread has inspired me to hold health over length.

The first pic is from the back, after the relaxer, after the blowdry and before the flatiron.

The second pic is from the front.

The third pic was the deciding factor in me cutting it off. I had three layers; one that stopped at my ears, one that stopped at my neck, and another that stopped at my armpits. From the front, it looked like I had a bad weave.

The fourth is where im at now.

Im barely grazing SL, and other than the style being wrong, I'm pretty content with it. This is the shortest ive had it in 5 years. On a sidenote; The FIFTH picture was what the style was SUPPOSED to look like. He told me that the style was a precision cut impossible to do without $1000 shears....

Wat.

I understand its a painting and may be a little unrealistic, but you cant tell me that thats not possible to do without Hollywood grade equipment, because my BOSS has something very similar, and i'll be damned if shes got the money for that.

Anyways, on to the main point and questions. Will oiling my ends protect them from wear and tear? Its not fully possible for me to wear a functional bun anymore as a PS. Can any of you reccommend any PS for hair my length? I can put it up in a short ponytail. I also plan on doing a protein treatment a week from now, is this too soon?

Is there anything else I can do to protect it while I continue growing out layers?

NYE side boob.
cute cut!!
and you are gorgeous, girl.
when I was that length, i either wore weaves for some variety or just left it down-i didn't really worry about hiding my ends, just keeping them moisturized. i did a lot of flexi rod sets and braidouts. curly styles will shrink up the ends above your shoulders, so they'll be fine as long as you are DC'ing regularly.
you'll find that it's more manipulation than it's worth trying to get hair that length up in a bun, so just enjoy it for now!

I've cut someone's weave like the pic with some kitchen scissors and it turned out well. He just didn't know what he was doing

Aww, thank you! I'm pretty ghostly right now because Ive been in doing paperwork. :lachen:
May I ask what you DC with? Your hair is amazing btw, I love the sheen.

Yeah thats what my mother and I said.

He's her friend though, and has been since high school, so I didnt want to give him any crap. He's amazing at everything else, just not hair lol.
Hes the only one in that salon I'd trust to do it, thats for sure. My rule of thumb with stylists is I never get my hair done by anyone who head looks worse than mine, and good lord the other stylists looked like they were competing for the title of who could prematurely bald the fastest...
Their clients werent much better...

That's a new one..."I need $1000 shears" alrighty then.

Your hair does look healthier. I love a blunt cut.

Thank you.
It wasn't SUPPOSED to be blunt, but whatever. I probably would have just put myself in the same position of forever being in the Land of Crappy Layers if he'd actually done it right.
It's hair though. I'll be right back at SL in no time.

Cute! I just started over too, I cringed every time I looked at my thin ends. My hair looks and feels so much better now.

I think blunt was probably the best choice, blunt always looks thicker. With a little curl in it, you will be bouncing all over town. Great cut.

My hair was similar in length to your before pic before I decided to transition and I chopped it to the bottom of my neck as well. It was an easy decision though because it was hella damaged and one side had gotten significantly thinner. I cut it mid May and its already grown out a lot, but length doesnt really matter to me since the relaxed ends are on their way out sooner or later.

Anyway I just wanted to tell you I could get my hair at the length of yours in a high bun like in my avatar. If you can do a braidout or bantu knot out to give your hair some texture and put it in a high puff, you can fan the ends around the base and pin it into a bun. I use good hair day pins so I dont damage my ends pinning them. Also I remember several years back when my hair was that length I would put it up in a loose twist and pin with a flamingo clip.

Cute cut and pretty girl!

Thank you! And thank you for the advice! I think youre right about me being able to put it in a bun. Ive just always preferred the fuller ones, but I guess thats just me being picky. I'll get over it and rock one eventually.

ur cute. it looks nice. have u tried keratin? seems like u like the bone straight look and that will help with heat damage
Ha. Actually I hate perfectly straight hair on me. The braidout/twistout look is delicious to me. Whats the difference between a keratin and protein treatment?

You can keep it braided up until you get back to your length with or without extensions (at that length I just did not use extensions but that's up to you). Just an idea. I know most don't want to go for it but I did that 24-7 from my first pic (look at my pics below) to a year and a couple months later (the next two pics) because shoulder length causes problems and I wanted to get to my goals fast (I should post a follow up pic and will soon). But anyways I got to a couple inches above waist or so (and that's with a lot of cutting in between to even it up)

your hair looks great! i'm glad he didn't cut those layers in because you would def end up back where you were. an easy way to achieve that look is just a few clip in extensions and put then on the sides by your ears to achieve that longer look on the sides.....clip ins can help you get that "look" without cutting your back to neck length, which is basically what you have to do to get that look. that cut is jagged layers.

and ummmm yeah, he could have done that with the scissors he had! LOL to his credit though, he didn't know how to do the cut, so he didn't try it and mess up your head experimenting. gotta give him props for that.

GL on your new journey! :)

My hair is healthy and grows in layers like yours as well. My nape and sides grow faster than my crown and bang areas. I've found that this shape looks better with textured styles (braidouts, twistoust, etc.), pinning one or both sides back, pinning the back up and updo's. Maybe you can do more of those if you find your hair growing back into the same shape.

And ITA w/the ladies who said that stylist didn't know what he was doing. He should've just said that -- especially if he's your mom's friend. LoL

Your hair is very thick, congrats on having the courage to cut all your layers off. I need to cut a few inches as well so this was encouraging, thanks. On a side note...GIRL, you are a natural beauty! I noticed this long before I noticed anything about your hair. Anyone can be beautiful with tons of make-up on, you don't need a drop of make-up, very lucky :).

ETA: yeah, that stylist is full of it! My DD can cut that style with her child scissors, SMH.

Now see, heres the thing though. when he'd cut my splits off and evened it up, I was full SL. I couldve and wouldve stayed that length if he wouldve told me he couldnt do the style, which i showed him prior to him cutting. Instead of just telling me right then and there that he didnt have the skill to pull it off, he cut off 4-5 inches unneccesarily, AND THEN made that excuse. I was more insulted that he thought I was stupid enough to believe that than I was that he butchered it. My bangs look like $h!t too. But oh well. It'll be back very soon.

Youre welcome! Honestly Id just gotten so tired of it being uneven, split, and broken and logging in to LHCF everyday to see all these beautiful heads of hair. Im glad to hear that this was encouraging! You just have to remember that it'll be back before you know it. I cut my hair to CBL in March and it was grazing APL when I went in.

thank you!
i DC with silk elements mega silk moisturizing treatment, i get it from sally's. it is just about the only DC that i feel actually does something for my hair.

Thank you so much! My hairs the same way, rejecting all kinds of DCs left and right. Ive been searching for a new one.
