It depends. When I use Outre or Milky Way it lasts 2 weeks max (because of matting). Remy Velvet last about a month before I have to re-install (little to no matting). The longest this hair has lasted is about 3 months (re using the same hair).

I look forward to responses. I currently have in a full head sew in (first weave ever) and I'd ideally like to keep it in for 8 weeks.

I can normally keep mine in for around 2 months with good weave care, that means i treat it like i would my own hair. And that without having to redo it. It does depend on the hair quality of course, put effort into your weave ladies, it will pay off in the long run.

Do you mind sharing some of your good weave care practices?

If you get a fullhead (no hair left out) if you get bangs can you not have them install directly on your edges but a little further back? I am thinking about getting an install but I don't want stress on my edges. I was thinking about having the edges braided up but having them start futher back...like installing like I don't have edges.

Sure
Never buy synthetic hair!! i cant stress that enough, wigs count to. Because i buy human i treat it like its mine meaning i DC and i do use heat. Milky Way responds well to heat but to cut down on frizzy ends, i use Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine every other day. At night i do a traditional wrap to make sure my weave bounces back. Also i dont buy pre curled hair, i buy straight, if i want it curled i do it myself. Hope this helps.

I've had my weave in since mid July. Before that I had the same weave installed in April. I had it taken out and put back in. However, I'm about to get it removed. I'm training for a marathon therefore I am working out a lot more than before. It's so itchy.

I wear mine for 6-8 weeks. I can't keep it in for too long bc my hair is fine and it tangles easily...

I try to keep mine for at least 8 weeks but I think the unwritten rule is to remove before 3 months.

I have fine natural hair. I keep mine in for 3 months at a time. I use quality remy hair from a vendor so the installed hair last a long time without tangling and can be reused. I wash and cowash my hair frequently. With a curly install I usually cowash every 3 days I mix conditioner with water and put it in a spouted applicator bottle squirt this on my braids let sit for couple mins then rinse then CW the length of the installed hair. Every other weekend I would do the same this time with a mix of water and shampoo. I would then deep condition afterward. When I take my install down I make sure to saturate my braids with oil and comb out all the shed hair really really well before washing (Leaving any shed hair or lint is what causes the matting, dreading and tangling). Then I would wash focusing on the scalp and making sure not to pile my hair up on top of my head or agitate it too much.

Keep it in for 10 to 14 weeks. I use midrange? hair, about $100 per bundle. When I had natural hair I washed, conditioned, and blow dried my hair prior to install, and added absolutely no oils to it before it was braided. After I would wash and condition the weave and my hair ever 1.5 to 2 weeks. If at home I would air dry for half the day, then blow dry and flat iron the weave hair. I would only add a tad of polisher if it was poufy.

I've never had any problems with matting at all or tangling, and shed hair after takedown was tons but that is to be expected if u didn't actually comb through ur hair for three months. No loss in density, good retention.

I think those with issues matting are using TOO many products that can't be easily washed out or is washing and manipulating too often, possibly agitating the strands around each other ( still unsure because the ends are braided). When I take down my hair feels oily from just the natural oils I produce, and probably left overs from the few products I use sparingly.

Good luck, show us the pics after the install.

My stylist didn't braid my edges and because my hair in the front at the time was short it was hidden by the thick bangs just as long as the bangs were not oily or flat. You could braid your edges loosely and don't see anything to it and it will be hidden by the bang. And then unbraiding, wash, and rebrand.

I've kept mine in for 3 to 3.5 months... all the while taking care of it myself. Washing every other week with a DC... oiling my scalp and edges... not PULLING on the weave all willy nilly... wrapping at night... using a bobby pin to scratch my scalp instead of digging my fingers in and causing friction.

With that said, I don't have abnormal amounts of shedding when it comes time to remove the weave. I don't experience tangling OR matting OR dredding. Additionally, I use quality human hair-- this last install was hair I've used before (purchased from KBRoyalty).

MOST IMPORTANTLY (imho) is how your base is braided. I full on believe that this is why my natural hair fairs very well while in weaves. My base is well constructed-- I plan to get a weave in a month or two and if I can remeber, I will double back and post my base.

What else--- uhmmm... My stylist uses a net, which I personally think has made a difference in how long my installs last. My edges are not braided in... and I think my stylist uses a nylon thread? I should probably ask him to be certain.

This is important I always insist on the net and my edges being left out. Also I prefer for my braids to be firm but not tight. If I feel pulling I let my stylist know right away its too tight that can cause you to lose hair.

I usually go for 2 months, I can and have done 3 months but I like to switch my styles up so usually 2 months is how long I keep my sew ins installed.
