Does anyone use fresh onion and or garlic on their scalp like maybe mixed with oil or condish for shedding or growth purposes. I was thinking about mincing some up and adding it to my scalp mix of oils. If so please share your recipes and experiences. Tia

I've heard of people who have done well with this and its an old remedy.

However when I tried the onion many years ago most of my hair fell out. Like every time I touched it fell. May be an unusual reaction, but I'll never do it again:nono:. Probably different when theres a bit mixed into shampoos, but raw and pure I can't do lol. Apparently garlic works internally anyway in capsule form.

Garlic didnt help my shedding and it was hard to get rid of the smell. So far the only thing that has help is tea.

garlic is anti-fungal and helps diminish shedding.
there are a number of garlic shampoos and conditioners out there in the world.
i've tossed garlic and mustard oil together a few times.

Growth aids normally make the hair shed as they speed up the follicle cycle . Garlic and onions contain sulfur .

I use garlic oil. I take several garlic bulbs and cut the tips off then place them in a glass jar and shake it. I apply it to my hair and scalp before applying my deep conditioner. Sometimes I mix it in my deep conditioner. It just makes my hair feel really nice/soft. I have also noticed a decrease in shedding. It does smell awful, but once I rinse it out I no longer smell it on my hair.

I use any oils I have on hand- castor, grapeseed, olive. I purchased them from camden grey but amazon has them as well.

I used this YT video for assistance. http://youtu.be/HgFX5aBz2hY

I have never heard of this for hair I heard about fresh chopped garlic in nail hardener. I guess it will work with a hair strengthener too but the are yall sure about the smell? I mean whats the point of having long pretty hair if it smells bad?

ETA: Also it would make one of the hair superstitious say "see I told you your hair will mildew if you airdry" lol wow

Don't worry be happy
I use fresh garlic on my scalp, I blend it with water strain, and use the juice. Stops shedding in its tracks :yep: There is a strong scent, I mix it with a generous amount of EO to help mask it.

i remember when i ordered garlic essential oil to mix into my hair oil/ conditioner... Once you open that bottle it will be hell trying to get rid of the smell in the house. not to mention after only two drops into my conditioner, my hair smelled terrible for a week. :perplexed

not to mention the questions people can have when they first take a whiff of the smell.. :nono:

Here is my latest update,
Look at my hair montage from last month and you will see a clean bald spot in the back side of my hair on several pictures. You can't miss it. I just took the same shot today, and there is a little plug of hair growing in that spot. I will also show a picture of my twist from earlier this year so that you can see the difference int the thickness.

As to the smell, if you got a full head of hair, or a lot of money to buy fancy treatments-like that minozidel or transplants, it stinks. But if you are broke and bald go to the grocery store, and handle your business :lachen:

See the thin fuzzy hair growing in my bald spots, I call it 'deer antler velvet' If it keeps filling in, my hair will look thick at the roots, and thin on the ends. If you look closely, my ends are already starting to look a little thinner than the roots.

LAMARia use any hot pepper, it works in twenty minutes. I am a severe case, so I do overnights.

Yes you can use onion or garlic. I have a friend whose hair was falling out from weave glue and improper care. She had a few bald spots in her head for years and tried everything. She started mixing fresh onion juice in her oil, and now her hair is thriving and the bald spots are filling in very well. I think you should invest in a juicer and start juicing onions.

lamaria211 did you try this? If so, did you see any positive results? Thanks.

Funny that you mention that @lamaria211. DH saw my onion next to the juicer and said I've officially gone off the deep end, so I waited until he left to try it this a.m. I used rosemary and peppermint to try to mask the smell and left it on my scalp for a few hours before DCing with a variety of (yummy smelling) conditioners. I can't smell onions now but once DH hits the door and sees the onion is gone I'm sure he'll say he does.

I used to use garlic oil, and I also tried couple garlic supplements... yea.. I couldnt continue it long term but I did see a big difference in my hair. It helped it to thicken up and reduced shedding a lot.

I might try the onion and maybe rinse it out the next morning and hopefully the smell wont linger like the garlic does.. Garlic stays on the hair for days even after shampooing!
