Not using shampoo and co washing has been the biggest help with moisture.
I use TRESemme naturals and Hair One to co wash.

Do you like Hair One? I am trying to decide between As I am coconut Cowash or Hair One. I used a sample of Hair one and it was cool but it was my first time using a conditioning cleanser?

Shampoo: MoroccanOil Moisture Repair Shampoo
DC: MoroccanOil Intense Hydrating Mask
(I mix a few drops of the MoroccanOil Lite Treatment into each initial dollop of DC I use. I always section in 4 and apply to make sure everywhere is getting throughly coated then I seal each section with grapeseed oil and steam. I don't have a steamer so I use this method. And I cool & seal with MoroccanOil Moisture Repair Conditioner.
Or on dry hair I mix up some EVOO, Avocado oil, grapeseed oil and a little bit of One N' Only Argan Oil Treatment and use Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque and apply it like the Carol's Daughter Oil Infusion Kit. (the smell of the mask bothers me so I think I'm going to start doing it with the MoroccanOil Hydrating Mask or Giovanni SAS) I seal the product in with the excess oil then sit under my heating cap.
I also just started not washing my rinse out conditioner fully. While styling I take each section before I add leave-in and I gently clamp each piece between two fingers and side them down the length to remove excess conditioner then apply my leave-in.
Leave - in: 50% Kinky Curly Knot Today 50% Aleo Vera Juice and a capful of silk amino acids. (I use KCKT because I have fine strands and it doesn't weigh my hair down)
Hair Moisturizer: I mix AVJ, KCKT, SAA and some Kinky Curly Spiral Spritz.
I've heard good things about Oyin Hair Dew but I haven't tried it myself. It's another product that's recommended for fine strands because it's so light weight, so if you have average/coarse strands it may not be helpful for you.
Hair Oil/Styling Product: 100% cold pressed Argan Oil.
I've heard good things about Macadamia Oil because it closely mimics sebum but again something I haven't tried myself.
Flaxseed gel hasn't done me wrong so far
Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel

The MoroccanOil line is pricey but I've been testing out the One N' Only line of the Argan Oil products and thus far they have been very comparable and much more economical. The only two things I caution about is the smell, it's very perfumey and some people don't like that and the second is the Organix line of Moroccan Oil products were very drying to my hair. It might just be a me thing but I don't recommend taking that chance.

And though silk amino acids make my hair softer I'm not sure if it's actually aided in moisture and moisture retention. My hair was doing fine before I started using it, it's just nice to have the extra softness but feel free to forego it.

you sound like you're on a mission

Shampoo
Lily of the Desert Aloe 80 Organics Daily Shampoo Aloe Lemon and Rosemary
Got this from vitacost. I've only used it a couple of times but so far, it's the least drying shampoo i've used. when i run out, i intend to try out shea moisture's shea butter shampoo and finally decide between the two

Deep Conditioner
Smooth 'N Shine Polishing Olive & Tea Tree RevivOil Deep Recovery Conditioner
Normally order this two at a time from walmart's website. they have trial packs in the store but those things are so little, I'll need 20 to DC one twist :lachen: in any case, it costs under $5 with shipping and it is THE BEST conditioner ever for my type 4 hair. i might try other things out of curiosity but this has worked best for my hair

Leave-In
Giovanni's direct leave in. I'm not happy that they changed the formula though. so i'm on the market for something else

Hair Moisturizer
Beautiful textures daily leave in. Smells great, has wonderful slip, and actually moisturizes my hair. shocker lol

Hair Oil/Styling Product
castor oil or nothing

Ditto this! Cutting out shampoo, oil rinsing, using co-cleansers (Wen Mango Coconut took the cake! :lovedrool:), and using Tresseme Naturals as a leave-in. Moisture city! :lick:

Yes I'm very pleased with it. I prefer hair one Tea tree over the one for dry hair. I like that it can double as a conditioner. I have no clue if As I am can be doubled as a conditioner.

Add Aloe Vera juice to your regimen, whether you put it in a spray bottle with eqaul parts water, or add it to your conditioners as you wash your hair. AVJ is the business, trust me :yep:

No one mentioned a domincan product.

I forgot the name but since you are in NYC go to the BSS and ask for the one that has snail slime as an ingredient. It is also written on the front of the label. It is the creme de la creme of moisturizers.

I only know of a great deep conditioner- kerastase oleo masque. It's a tad expensive and I'm out of it right now but about twice a week I'd leave some in overnight after shampooing and after rinsing it out in the morning, my hair would have not one tangle. It also smells great.

Forgot to add: I bought Redken Extreme shampoo/conditioner and so far the conditioner is the best I've ever used. The consistency is a little watery but it detangles my hair well.
