I'm still trying to find a good moisture/protein balance. But since I've been doing more protein treatments my hair seems stronger, I'm just scared of overdoing it! I use Nexxus intensive reconstructor.. What do you guys use? And how often?

Aubrey GPB and Giovanni deeper moisture smooth as silk.

Always detangle wet or damp, never dry. Try the tangle teezer. CO wash often, keep it oiled, don't wear it down everyday, bun some of the time too.

I usually wet n go. I do comb my hair with a denmans brush without too much breakage. (i usually do this when it's wet and has conditioner in it) braids and twists don't work for me. Weaves are ok, but I'm not in the mood for them right now. I don't look good in wigs bc I have a small face.

Very pretty hair. I too have a 3C with some 3B in the back. My hair is very dry and frizzes up like crazy. I have been experimenting with home made gels to see what works for me. I did find out that my hair loves avocado oil, olive oil, and coconut oil. I also noticed that coconut milk gives my hair some much needed moisture. I tend to stretch my hair more often now because wash and go's cause breakage if I do this too often.

Oh and my hair loves protein too. Aphogee treatments or homemade egg conditioners make my hair feel great.

My hair HATES protein. I cant use any type of protein at all lol maybe im the exception

My hair hates protein too; even something as benign as mixing an egg into my conditioner causes breakage. Now I barely use any protein at all.

... I would also like to know successful regimen techniques for this hair type. Specifically I have medium-coarse hair.

I have medium and coarse strands too (and some "4a" and "3a" in addition to the "3b/c"). Cowashing every 2-5 days, depending on the weather, and bunning have been the most important factors in getting my hair to grow. I use various Nature's Gate conditioners and Trader Joe's Nourish Spa. I always had terrible problems with dryness but eliminating sulfates and silicones has helped tremendously. I use a lot of oils, especially coconut, castor, wheat germ and sweet almond, as well as avocado, shea and mango butter... often mixed, along with aloe vera, rosewater, etc. But many times I simply cowash and use a little bit of conditioner, and that works just as well.

BBritdenise I have 3b hair and I took a look at your hair and I would say that you need to stay away from those heavy proteins. It will not help you and all the fly by night super grow is not going to help you. I see you have acne problems also. I think you will be better off doing it simple.

do henna treatments it will clear up your skin in the scalp and help thicken your hair. I would suggest you purchase Nupur which can me found on amazon. I would also suggest that you take a multivitamin so that you can get all the nutrients you need in your body. make sure that you conditioners you use for co washing are moisturizing. and make sure that you dust your ends to get oxygen to your hair. I kind of do it twice a yr. if you want to do a nice wash n go try mixed chicks or another custard that you like shea moisture enhance smoothie is another good one. gel will work if you like the heavyness it will give but it will dry nice and you will just have to smooth the crunch out and that is with any of them once your hair dries 100% smooth out the curls and it will become nice and full but don't forget to seal your hair before putting the curl definer on. not alot of oil because it will weigh the hair down.

if you need more information please look at my regimen. I look at your hair and it reminds me so much of me when I was younger and didn't know what to do with my hair.

Bump!

Do any other 3b/c's find they need more protein treatments in their regimen?
Curlywurly10 my hair hates protein which is why I only henna my hair. I don't use anything else except I just started using a light protein some times like once a month. and I find that if I want the best curls I don't use a comb nor brush. anyone with dry hair is because of the protein and less moisture which our hair needs badly.
