I trim every 3 to 4 months. I don't get spit ends like I use to when I only trimmed it once or twice a year. You don't have to cut off much.

My goal is to get a trim once a year with dustings in between. My last trim was May 11th. So it's been almost 6 months so far. I don't plan on trimming again until May 2007! Wish me luck:D

The longest I've gone is about 9 months.

I'll probably go every 12 or 24 weeks though (every relaxer or every other relaxer) depending on the condition of my ends. I've been slipping on my moisturizing. :look:

I stopped trimming a LONG time ago---in fact since I've been natural (3 years) I've had my ends "dusted" once or twice for style reasons only.

I voted 9-12 mos. but actually it's been almost four years. My hair doesn't grow any better when I trim it. In fact, I haven't had split ends in about four years

I normally dust all over w/every t-up (4 months), but I didn't do anything my last t-up. It's been 6 months so far since my last duster, and I'm actually trying to see if it's better to just dust all over w/every relaxer or to wait until needed. So far I'm leaning towards dusting w/every T-up.

I have not trimmed in about 2 years. My hair still grows, but I am thinking about trimming the ends sometime within the next century.

My last trim was in September.

I don't plan to trim while I'm preggie, so my next trim will be in September next year (about 1 month 1/2 after I give birth). So once a year.

Can the fact that you don't trim very often make your ends thinner? I did a experience and I went 7 months without a trim and now ends are thin. I feel like cutting all of it but I'll be sacrifying a lot of length, I don't have split ends, it's just that I fell like my ends are weaker then the rest of my hair.
Thin doesn't mean weak automatically. Most times the thin ends you're seeing are the hairs that have pushed out in fornt of the rest of your hair, the rest will catch up then your hair will thicken and stretch out again.
I do S&D mission on the little splits, when I see them otherwise I'm not evening up until I reach a big goal cause I've lost alot of length trying to chase the blunt hairline.

My last trim was in September of 2006, after my last salon visit. I plan to trim 1-2x per year, if needed. Right now, though, my hair is too short for me to self-trim. I'm not sweating it, though. I figure if I really need a trim, I can mosey on down to the Hair Cuttery down the street.

The last time I trimmed it was November 18, the day I last relaxed my hair. I am getting a touch up on Febraury 17 and I will ask for a trim them. So...every 3-4 months I get a trim!:)

excellent point lucia!
never thought of that!
i think this thread is so fascinating
a majority of you don't trim often and still have great healthy hair & ends
also alot of u baggie or keep ends protected
these are the 2 major things i have learned since being on this board
my sister-in law trims maybe 1-2x a year and she has thick waist length hair
she wears it down most of the time
and is very "low manipulation"
she doesn't baggie but her texture is like that of boar bristle
so it takes alot to damage it

my stylist used 2 trim (cut) my hair religiously every 3 months
at first i didn't care b/c i wasn't trying to grow it out
but about 2 years ago i decided 2 grow it longer than my shoulders
and since my hair grows fast i wondered why it wasn't getting longer
now my ends were fabu :look: but it was at the same length!

i also am learning my hair growth patterns w/ chicoro's help

i haven't figured out a schedule yet but i have started dusting
and checking for knots
since oiling & sealing, and keeping my ends off my clothes my ends look great!

in just a few months i have made so much progress
and am almost at bsl!
thanks guys!:look:

My last trim was......:confused::confused::confused:....march '06 I think. I'm trying to get up the nerve to put those new shears I bought to good use. Everything I go to my stylist, she chops my hair instead of trimming it, so I just stopped getting it trimmed. Because of that, I just keep my ends extra moisturized and protected until I get up the nerve to dust them myself.

although my moms trimmed me up about 6mths ago. I voted for 9-12mths because I am no longer going to do an allover trim until I reach my hair goal.. and even then I probably still won't do it.

I do dust my ends but only when needed and not all over. Just a few strands here and there.. or I will twist my hair and just snip the very tip!

My last "trim" was in Nov 06, but I've gone 12 mos. or so w/o trimming before. I didn't think trimming was a big deal till a stylist told me I needed to do 'preventative' trims ...it was then that I was getting it trimmed w/every touch-up I realized it was just for aesthetic purposes. Right now I'm all a/b the health and growth of my hair, so no trimming until I reach APL or MBL *crosses fingers for the latter*...Then maybe I"ll worry a/b even ends. I'm bunning a lot more, so it's not necessary anyways. If I see a split, however, I'm all over "S&D" tactics;) .

I trimmed on Oct 19 when I texlaxed. I won't trim again until Feb 24 when I get my next texlax. So four months.

I voted for 9-12 months though, because that's the longest I've ever gone... tho I wont be doing that anymore.

Before I went natural I would get my hair cut about once a month. I just could not figure out why my hair wouldn't grow long. I get it now, it was because I would cut it off before it gets a chance gain length. I am glad that I found this site. I'm a newbie as you all call it and my story is (make sure you have a minute): I was relaxed and have been every since I can remember. My edges (temples) have been thin next to bald from burns over the years. I have tried numerous methods to grow them back out. I decided to go natural last year in order to thicken and grow my edges out. It was worse with the natural because my balding edges stuck out like a sore thumb with a TWA (Teeny Weeny Afro). I decided to relax again because I was not only fed up with my thin edges but with my natural hair breaking every time I tried to untangle it and all of the time it would take for me to get it together for work. I could not retain length with my natural because it was always breaking off dispite all the conditioning and protein treatments. I am happily relaxed again and would like to gain length. My hair is a mere 3 1/2 to 4 inches and healthy. I would like to maintain health while growing more length. As far as my edges are concerned I have given up on growing them back, I just baby them and relax them last. I only keep the relaxer on them for about 5 minutes. I have been stalking this site for a couple of months. Now I'm here and ready to get to shoulder length. :)
