Naturals: do you get swinging hair after flat ironing?

I used the maxiplide on my hair and I guess it was straight enough. However, it was still frizzy and a little poofy. All I used was serum (Fantasia IC) and nothing else b/c I didn't want my hair weighed down. It seems like my 4b hair is impossible to straighten and I'm scared to go to the Dominicans.
I used the maxiglide on setting 6-7 most of the time, did tiny pieces, and swiped 3-4 times per piece.
It was poofy so I ended up doing pincurls so it wouldn't be a waste.
Do I need more product on my hair for next time?

I have a CHI flat iron its great just that my ends dont get str8 enough. I am not sure what to do to get it str8 out. Can some1 direct me to a thread about that or tell me what can be done to str8n the ends out, cuase that messes up the style. All my hair is nice and smooth except the ends so my REAL length doesn't really get to show

Minimal product is best. Di you blow dry before using the maxi glide? I think if you apply small amt of heat protectant on damp hair then blow dry and then flat iron, you should get swinging hair.

I heard of using a clamp brush while flat ironing the hair. It's like two brushes in one. You clamp the brush down and follow it immediately with the flat iron. This has helped me a bit,

Nah, I'm too much of a punk to put the maxiglide any higher than 4, so while my hair gets straight, it's definitely not swinging.

I get swing if I don't use many products. I blow dry and then straighten with my T3. I find that deep conditoning ensures that I don't need extra product.

I've started using a heat protectant instead of a lot of grease when flat ironing. I use Loreal's StudioLine Hot Straight (da pink one) ...on my wet hair and then blow dry it. After I finish blowdrying... I straighten it and add a dab of oil for shine. I get a lot of body... I mean thats what i do.....everyone's different....try a straightening cream and see if that helps...I know it wont make ur hair weigh down

I rollerset then flat iron the roots with my sedu and wrap my hair for the bouncy look. If I want a more sleek straight look I flat iron with the sedu down to the ends and use Dudley's pressing cream and then wrap. hth

Did you sit under a dryer or air dry for your roller set. Your hair turned out great, I may try this. I have some Dudley's here at home.

My Solia leaves my hair swinging! I use Silk Elements Protectant before flat ironing.

Heck my Solia even drys and straightend my damp hair bone straight. I air dried my hair the other night and it didn't dry all the way and flat ironed with no problem!

Yes my hair has a lot of body and swings after I flatiron. I have a maxiglide that I love.I blowdry first using my leave-in and beyond staight. Other than that I use a serum and I get good results.

I blow dry after washing, using suave conditioner. I rub a little coconut oil or African oil for heat protection. I use the flat iron just a little under high. "Before castor oil strengthened my hair this was not possible.
I only need to swipe 2-3 times for hair to be straightened.
I suggest turning up the heat one more than you’re using, this will lessen the amount of times you have to swipe.
Hope this helps.:look:

I also believe that when you swipe over your hair to do it maybe slower than you were doing it. Maybe count by seconds or something. Just flat iron your hair a lil slower, yes its more time i know, but its worth it.

ps. Does any1 know of any threads on how to have long healthy hair by wearing it str8 w/heat? I am natural and am enjoying the str8 hairstyle for right now.

I use a Sedu & I get swing every time. The key is to use no products on your hair at all, then apply a little bit of serum AFTER you finish flat ironing. After you shampoo, deep condition under the dryer for 2x as long as you would if you weren't going to use anyheat. Rinse then blowdry & flat iron with NO ADDITIONAL PRODUCTS. Perfect results every time. :)

I do the same thing. To get it bouncy and straight, I'll deep condition, then rollerset (very tight) and make sure all of my hair is dry. Then I flat iron the roots plus lightly bump the ends under.

Yes, the key is to put very little product on your hair. I use a little Giovanni Direct leave in and a little NTM Serum and then straighten. It comes out nice and free flowing. I also add a little serum and some jojoba oil on my ends afterwards and then wrap it. My hairs comes out so nice. I get lots of compliments, so I guess I'm doing something right! :p
