I think you will be ok going darker with perm dye. But if your hair has been feeling dry since u lightened maybe just do a rinse.

A black rinse won't look green lol. Back in my early 20's I changed hair color as often as I changed my socks lol.

No matter how light I went or how orange a botched job came out I semi perm black or a rinse did the job.

Plus if you're that worried you can go with henna and indigo. I'd just get a black box color and call it a day.

She said its orange, I imagine mixing that w/blue black could produce a greenish hue. I've seen women w/jet black hair w/a green overcast. Perhaps they didn't know.

NOOO!!
I certainly hope not, sounds icky

Back in high school I had flamey brown hair similar to now and I was able to get it to dark brown with no green...
I would imagine greenness might be an issue if you're coming from light hair but mine isn't that light...

Also I am not going to jet black. my hair isn't black naturally, it's probably the darkest brown before light black lol. I do not want a super inky black although I do think it's gorgeous, I'm not sure how it would look on me.

My mother in law saw my lightened for the first time tonight and she said it was beautiful  but that has not changed my mind. I just don't feel like me with this color. I also feel really dumb in the sun, like it's just too damned orangey. I was going for an ash brown color but I'll have to grow out my hair for years and have it done professionally if I want that.

I'm now slightly curious so I did a search. A lot of people have asked about the green issue or experienced it. Thought I'd add a link from the black hair forum: http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/my-hair-turned-green_topic138091.html

thanks, interesting, I didn't know this. I see she used a rinse. I'm going to use permanent... I'm thinking maybe the rinse didn't cover properly causing some kind of green effect? who knows

Ugh I certainly hope there is no green tint, that just sounds hideous.

my true curiosity lies in how you managed to make over 3,300 posts and you just joined in January?? Thats incredible, i need to step my game up.

Anywhoozies, i remember when i dyed my hair medium brown. a few months later wanted to go back to black. So i just went to the BSS and got a black permanent dye and dyed my hair. It was a super lovely deep black. i had no issues with weird colors.

I post a lot in the Entertainment section...

Sounds good, I'm pretty confident I can do it without issues. I just hate that I damaged my hair however much. But I felt like I really wanted a change and now I experienced it and it's not right for me.

I know products have changed. I dyed my hair blonde in the early 90s following my friends. When I tried to cover it with black it did turn green. I don't know why but it did happen. I did both jobs myself but it took a pro to get it back right.

So I've changed my mind about going back to black permanently. what I'm going to do is getting a brown semi just to attempt to tone out some of the red and see how that works... It may darken me up permanently which is fine with me. I'm not ready to commit back to permanent black.

I am really a misfit about my hair :look: lol. I think it was my pms making me crazy.

The brown is a good idea, but just FYI: once your hair has been lightened the color will always fade, so you wouldn't be stuck with black.

that's true,... but I feel safer dipping my foot in and just going with a medium brown semi perm color and seeing how that works out. that'll definitely fade and it's also gentler on my hair.

The trick to avoiding green hair is to add a red based color to the mix. A blue based black, or adding another blue based color to a blue based dye will make the hair potentially turn green (especially on hair that is blonde or has been lifted...yellow + blue = green-ish). A dye with a red base will tend to color black on the more purple-ish (plum) side of the spectrum (red + black = purple-ish).

I ended up going jet black. I used Revlon Colorsilk in Black and it colored my hair inky black. I love it, looks a bit unnatural to me but I don't think others would know it's fake

Arlana

I went back to black last week after using that L'Oreal color in Coolest Brown. I seriously missed my black hair, plus I don't have to worry about my eyebrows not matching.

Black is my natural color and it's more striking on me anyway. All the other colors looks so blah. I used Garnier Nutrisse in Soft Black but I wish I would've tried the Shea Moisture color.
