Salon stylists speak "we hate wash and gos!"

I couldn't help it...after seeing the video and they said that Ecostyler Brown Gel isn't good for the hair, I googled it and found this blogger who actually uses this and never use the 'clear' gel and she loves it.

I copied and pasted some of what she said and a few of her pictures (I hope she doesn't mind if she is seeing this). :grin:

Eco-Styler Gel

This is one gel I cannot let go of. I've had a grip on it since my college days, which was almost 10 years ago! I tell everyone who'll listen that if you need a gel, this is the best of the BEST stuff. It doesn't flake, and it provides MOVABLE hold. Not too many gels can do that without flaking. So that's why after work last night I headed to the beauty supply store to pick up a tub (for only 3.99 at that!).

Anyways, I decided to do a semi-dry twist out on my hair last night. I washed, conditioned and then lightly blow-dried it for about 5 to 8 minutes. Afterward, I did two strand twists on my damp hair. I used the Eco-Styler gel to hold (and curl) the ends together.

Works like a charm EVERY time.

MahoganyCurls was constantly using the brown Eco (for her constant wash and goes

) for a while too. Her hair is about waist length and lush as all get out now.

Yea, the Eco-Styler Brown gel is great. It's my favorite of the Eco-Styler gels. It has a hold of only 5 so it doesn't make my hair stiff and crunchy like the others that have a hold of 10. It doesn't flake for the most part, but, it can flake if you use it with a product that it doesn't agree with. I used to use it with Care Free Care Gold when I did wash n' gos. I was always happy with the way my wash n' gos turned out using this combo. It also works for twist outs.

Yeah it has a softer old and it's also supposed to contain more protein. I think there's also a super duper protein one lol

I think the moral of the story is that its not that they don't want to do natural hair, they just think WNGs are not for everyone and some people need to accept that. When WNGs go wrong, just like when a home dye gone wrong goes wrong, who do you run to? In a sense, are they wrong for trying to prevent that? To save you money from products, time from tangles, and time and money from damaging your hair and then going to the salon to sprinkle magic dust on you and fixing it?

I can see the negativity, but I can also see the positivity.

The moral of the story is that those natural hair stylist shouldn't be rude and condescending to their clients or potential clients because the stylists are the ones who are ignorant when it comes to wash n' gos. Wash n' gos are popular in the natural hair community and they are not damaging if done correctly.

Since wash n' gos are popular, these stylist should educate themselves on how to do wash n' gos without damaging the hair and pass that knowledge on to their clients. As a business person, you have to give the people what they want and if their clients want wash n' gos the stylist should become the experts in wash n' gos so they can help their clients do the wash n' gos without damaging their hair.

I am a type 4 and used to do wash n' gos all the time. I never experienced matted, tangled hair, but, that is because I found the right products for me and knew how to handle my hair if it did become overly dry and tangled which only happened if I didn't re-moisturize the next day. Never damaged or ripped out my hair. So, it was clear to me that they didn't know what they were talking about and, yes, I would be skeptical about letting any of them touch my head.

I mean other successful stylist have made brands from giving clients the products to do the styles they want. For naturals, that's mainly meant wash n'gos. Apparently Hair Rules, Ouidad, DevaCurl, and Miss Jessie's (companies with very successful lines and salons) haven't gotten the memo that wash n'gos can't be made to work for a lot of people :look:

But maybe these ladies are on to something. . . Why give your clients a style that they want to wear when you can discourage them and do a style they don't want instead? Oh wait! Black salons have already been doing that :look:

My thing is this...its all in the presentation. The laughing and mocking people because of their choices was unwarranted and uncalled for. If they would have came with a different presentation about wash & goes, then maybe it would have been better received.

When you are in a profession like this, you should be sensitive to people...no matter what. It's hard enough that we are trying to find out what's right for our hair and then we have these black women treating us as if we are idiots and laughing at us for our choices. Its not nice.

I did not like these women. What was the purpose in doing those videos? i would never consider advice from people who act so unprofessional in their verbal presentation, let alone visiting their salon. I wouldn't let these women anywhere near my hair!!!

Girl bye. You got 0.5 milimeters of relaxed hair slicked with a glob of Murray's. Don't ever tell us how to be natural.

These chicks are messy & immature. Really can't fathom how these 3 could combine to successfully run ANYTHING other than their mouths. Let alone a natural salon.

On the flip side, I did think they had some thick, pretty legs though. I'll solicit their advice when I'm ready to go Buffy ;-)

ETA: Come back when you can prove how you've used your abundance of knowledge and skill to do for women what the women of LHCF have done for themselves. Maybe then... we can look past your atrocious attitudes and see you for the natural hair humanitarians that you truly are.

I feel so embarrassed for these women. Polymer does NOT MEAN plastic. ..argh.. how can you say that so condescendingly but yet be so wrong. How embarrassing they should just stick to doing hair.

Wow. I'm currently transitioning and hair stylist like these 3 are a big reason I decided to find an option other than going to the salon. They are so condescending and unprofessional.
