I have been taking Viviscal for over a month and I really see some results. My nails have grown quite a bit as well and they aren't as brittle.

Back in 2009 I took Solaray Hair Nutrients (Vitamin Shoppe) for about 6 months and got really good results. I have a hair progress thread from back in the day around here somewhere...not sure if the pics are still in it.

I also took GNC Ultranourishair and I didn't like them because they were gigantic.

Currently, I've been taking Vivisical for about a month. Every stitch of nails I HAD is now gone but my hair is looking great. I can see my baby hairs filling in nicely. :yep: They were thinned from relaxing I guess. I also notice less shedding than usual.

My faves are:

B-Complex (Solaray or Trader Joe's)
Why? Because I avoid taking "lone-wolf" supplements even pure Biotin. I think all supplements work together for the right results. Sometimes I think that adverse effects occur when we take too much of one nutrient and ignore everything else that it needs to perform.

Silica
Why? The sheeen it gives to HS&N. Everytime I try something else, I drag myself right back to silica's door. :lick:

Vitamin C (whole-C tablets or liquid form)
Why? Because it allows the body to absorb the other supplements like a champ. It also keeps me alert and healthy. Love it.

Pending approval:
Gelatin
Specs: I've been taking this for a little over a week because I hear it's good for thickness. So far, it has lived up to its reputation. I haven't spot-checked my hair yet. But, my nails are like cement at this point (even my rebellious ones). I'll have a full review by the end of june.

Wishlist:
MSM
Why I want it: I hear it lengthens the anagen phase which allows hair to remain in the growth phase longer than usual.

Why I haven't taken it yet: I'm scurred. I've heard some startrek-like side effects and I'm afraid to dive in. If I ever take it, it will be over the summer.

my favourite is sea kelp!! I know this is encouraging hair growth because it's making my body hair grow all over :look:

in order it goes
1.sea kelp
2.msn
3. biotin

I switch up using these supplements monthly so that my body doesn't get used to them..and I have sudden growth spurts from switching it up

Iron supplements from my doctor instead of the health store. I'm anaemic and getting my levels checked has done more for my complexion and hair than all the supplements I've tried put together and multiplied by ten.

I buy mine from Holland and Barrett (I'm from the UK) its called natures garden sea kelp with 15mg. I take 3 a day with food, the pills are tiny unlike other supplements I've taken

How soon were you seeing results? Also do you use it on a daily basis with no breaks or a certain number of weeks and then break for a couple of weeks

Biotin is my least rated. It grew hair everywhere BUT my head. That ish was not cute.

Viviscal is great but only when I'm not getting seafood. When I was training on the beach I could swear to you that ocean water and raw oysters/mussels/sushi/crab all the other good stuff I was eating had my hair growing like nobody's business. After I bought my car and couldn't eat out as much I decided viviscal was a great alternate. I abused my hair, flat ironed it every week, sometimes a few days every week (it was super humid) and it still thrived. I often wonder if it would be better if I had just left it alone, but boy that stuff was THICK. I only won't buy viviscal now because it's expensive and I'm really not sure if it was the viviscal or my fitness and nutrition that was causing the growth. :perplexed

I may never know. :(

I started noticing increased growth from my eyebrows etc probably after three weeks, and when I did my monthly hair measuring it grew 1.5 inch in the month I'd been taking it (I've found my growth rate is usually less)

I take the tablets daily and have been taking them for 5 weeks now. I'll take it for another four weeks daily, and then switch to msm and biotin for a month or so. I read somewhere that it's not advised to take sea kelp continuously for long periods of time, so i'm leaving breaks in between!

I hope it works for you, sea kelp is also used for weight management/loss, but I haven't noticed any weight loss, but then again I don't weigh myself!

Top rated:
Chlorella: (will take this daily for the rest of my life), heard its great for hair but I use for all the benefits of it
MSM: softens my new growth
Perfectil: have been taking for a month. I current live in Abu Dhabi, too many people here have recommended it for hair. It's the best selling hsn vitamin in the UK so why not try it.

Least rated:
Biotin- caused too much acne with little results

As I said in the random thread. Bamboo Silica. I'm still amazed. I have to say that this gave me the fastest most noticable growth out of everything I have ever taken since joining this board.

I really wanted to give Nioxin a chance but when I bought my first bottle it was less than $30 ( I think)...then when I was ready to repurchase, the price went up rediculously. Didnt think it was worth it after that.

My other stuff like msm, and biotin turned out to be excellent for things other than hair for me. You know the stuff you notice when you stop using a product and you learn what it actually did for you.

All others I've tried, not even worth mentioning. Oh Mineral Rich, I cut out when I learned I was pregnant, and when I miscarried I just never resumed. I can say I didnt give that a fair chance.

ChasingBliss, I second that bamboo silica. #datruf
I ordered Nioxin at $13 and when I went to reorder it was $90. Shoot no not in this lifetime. Sorry to hear about your m/c. I cant imagine what that must be like. I would like to try mineral rich but I take a lot of stuff as it is...so holding off for now.

For me, I reaped really good results along with energy from taking a small shot each morning of Mineral Rich recommended and endorsed by HonestyLove. My hair grew really fast and I'm almost waist length. When I first heard about it, I was BSL but it took off once I started consuming this liquid supplement.

To me it tastes a lot like grape Kool-Aide and it gets into the bloodstream somewhat quickly but it's important to drink lots of water with it, plus you can't go wrong with consuming water anyway!

My sea kelp is by nature's herbs, and it says 1 capsule, 3 times a day, for a total RDA of 45mg. 1 cap=15mg (15 x 3=45), so I wonder abt the 600 mg too. U sure it isnt 60mg, not 600? Sea kelp is a major source of iodine, so 600mg cant be right. Iodine is toxic if taken in excessive amts.

I loved Nioxin. My hair was thick and grew like crazy. I was taking Nioxin and Biotin at the same time, so it could have been a combination of both.
I bought 4 bottles of Nioxin from my local Supercuts for $20 ea. When I ran out they no longer carried it and it was $90 online. I've been taking Biotin since then, but no difference.

@Aggie

Any updates with the Toji?

It really does work but for the most part, it thickened my hair more than anything. That is really my goal anyway so for me it's working perfectly. I don't care too much about length anymore - just thickness.

A full head of thick shorter hair looks a lot better on me than a full head of thin long hair. I'll take this any day. I will continue to take them for a long while to come unless they change it's formulation making it less effective.

Aggie---thanks for the update. Did you get any weird stomach pain with using Toji? I'm afraid to try it because of the abdominal pain some people report. Also, how long before you saw thickness in your hair? Do you recommend this over other vitamins?

Thanks again =)

just started taking the GNC brand hair, skin and nails vitamin, it contains lots of biotin, as well as essential vitamins a, b, c and d and horsetail. i will check back in a month with an update. my only con for it right now is that it does not contain any iron so i had to buy a bottle of iron pills :(

I'm taking this too my skin has cleared up and my hair is shedding less

Jace032000,

No I didn't have any stomach pains while taking Toji, fortunately. The thickness didn't start to come in until about 5 months. As for recommendation over other products - no I won't do that simply because products including vitamins affect us differently from person to person.

You just have to try it to see if it will work for you. I do like Hairfinity as well by the way and will alternate between the two - 6 months at a time for each one. The results were similar for me.
