Y'all, this video had me dying. Especially her end result, 4 hours later.
I haven't tried a wash and go yet, but for my 4B, 4C ladies..how do you do them?

http://youtu.be/obLbD635Flc

Lyrics:

Wash and go's don't work on nappy hair
Wash and go's don't work out on my 4c natural hair

(Repeat 3x)

I want to wash my hair and go about my day
But my hair is nappy and it really isn't working for me
But i tried to do it anyway
But it started to SHRINK up
And in started to tangle up
And my friends are calling me like "where you at?"
I'm just doing my hair, umma call you right back
But the know by the end of the call
That I ain't going nowhere if my hair looks a hot mess
And guess what?

Wash and go's don't work on nappy hair,
wash and go's don't work out on my 4c natural hair

(repeat 3x)

Wash your hair, get some gel, and rake it threw
It's suppose to make your curls pop
But my curls ain't popping sista
All this gel is shrinking up my hair!
and my hair isn't drying and it's starting to get tangled
there's so many other styles that you can do
You can do a twistout
You can do an updo
But this wash and go ain't even worth my time
So sometimes I wear a wig
Especially when I'm in a rush
Because

Wash and go's don't work on nappy hair
Wash and go's don't work out on my 4c natural hair

(repeat 1)

Combing dry hair sista
I don't do that
Forget a denman I use my fingers for that
I ain't trynna do to much detangling
Cause my hair be doing too much breaking

Combing dry hair sista I don't do that
forget a denman I use my fingers for that
I ain't tryna do too much detangling
Its that kinky curly hair
And the strands are really fine
thats why

wash and go's dont work on nappy hair
wash and go's dont work out on my 4c natural hair

I agree with her because our hair is similar and I have the same problems. Haven't tried a wash and go but I know it would look ham lol.

I saw that video early this morning and I thought "deja vu" that's exactly what I went thru on Monday when I attempted a wash n' go and I have 4a, 4b and 3c texturized fine hair. I will admit that I am not that talented when it comes to styling anyway. Oh yes, once upon a time I tried KCCC and it was even worse.

NYE side boob.
She's so gorgeous!

lmao "I'm not tryna do too much detangling"
i like her channel and music choices. too many natural gurus put India Arie or whatever as their music....she has Rick Ross. I dig it. :look:

Loved the vid. I so agree with her. In fact her results looked neater than others I have seen. I have 4B hair and to me WNGs on 4B hair look like unkempt hair.

To answer your question, assuming you are asking how one can get the WNG look on 4B hair, is by shingling. This opens up the tiny coils allowing them to line up with each other so they cup each other and thus form defined coils that stand out.

WNGs work on bigger coils like 4A and 3's because the larger coils cup each other easily thus forming these thick defined uniform patterns.

Thanks Nonie

I think I'll pass on WNG's. I already know my hair will shrink and tangle up. "I'm not tryna do too much detangling!"

That video was funny. I would never do a wash and go on my hair because I know it wouldn't work and I'm not trying to walk around looking like a crazy woman.

Nonie she did shingle. Her hair just shrunk up back to her scalp. Wng's only work on 4b/c hair if you have very low shrinkage. Latifatumi is the only 4c (self identified) person I've seen do a decent wash n go on utube. She has very low shrinkage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITUqCfP-nsM

The vid in the OP did not show shingling. Shingling involves using a fine-tooth comb and a heavy product that stretches out the hair and blowdrying to freeze hair in that stretched out state. Miss Jessie's PDF shows the steps. Folks with coarse hair can probably use fingers and working on small sections stretch the hair out with some gel in it to lock it in that stretched out state. That can be thought of as a variation of shingling. tkj25 has shrinkage but he shingled OK.

Going to watch your link now.

ETA: virtuenow The lady in your clip did a variation of shingling that I was talking about. She does have a lot of shrinkage but unlike the girl in the OP, she has coarse strands whose weight responds to the pull of gravity. Also she didn't start off with dripping wet hair which would shrink up as it dried. So she started off with dry-ish hair with little plan to shrink up, weighed it down with some product which she smoothed along the length making her coarse strands heavier so they stretch and at the same time the smoothing opened them up to cup each other. This new weight kept coils open so they dried that way.

She may call it a WNG but I see shingling on dry coarse strands. WNG IMO involves applying a product to dripping wet hair to weigh it down and letting your hair airdry. Doing that with hair that has big coils will give definition like this:

Doing it on hair with small coils gives a rat's nest.

I think by her definition a wash and go is just that - wash it and go.

I know some people have different definitions of wash n gos, but it still involves some sort of extra manipulation to get the proper look.

Nonie interesting, you're saying the girl in the OP can achieve a similar look to latifatumi if she does her technique? I'll have to see it to believe it!

Not if she has fine strands. You need hair with weight, hence my mentioning coarse strands. The girl in OP may need to shingle the original way if she has fine strands.

The heavier your strands, the more product will stretch and open them up. Also coarse strands do not shrink as much as fine strands since gravity has more mass to exert a pull on.

LOL yeah but the idea is hair was washed and product applied to dripping wet hair that was just washed, little manipulation then go.

If you have to dry hair first, then you are doing a dry and style.
