What New Hair Techniques Would You Like To Learn in 2007?

1. I would like to learn how to wrap my hair, like in a doobie. I haven't even tried this one yet, perhaps because it seems to involve combing. Wonder if I can do it without combing...

2. My eye keeps wandering to the henna threads too. :eye: All of you ladies who use henna have such beautiful, shiny, healthy-looking hair.

Do you know of any new techniques would you like to learn during this coming year? :)

Self Relax- I would love to learn how to relax my hair myself so that I can stop spending so much to buy Phyto 2 and then pay someone to apply it :/

Henna- I will learn to henna myself, I'm going to give it a try in a few weeks...

Me too for Henna.

I would love to learn how to select, mix and apply henna/indigo, etc.

I don't relish the idea of making a huge mistake and end up 1.) looking like a clown with strange color hair or 2.) drying my hair out and having it break off...

For now, I'll stick to payiing professionals who know how to do this stuff and ask them to teach me as we go along...

I want to learn how to:
  • Rollerset properly. I've never been able to do it and I'd like to learn so I don't have to use heat when I want curls.
  • Henna. I've been curious about henna for years but have never tried it. I want to this year.
  • I want to learn to cornrow my own hair. I've been practicing but can't quite do it yet.
I think that's about all I can think of right at the moment.

Ooh no wait.

I want to learn to flat iron my hair and do a nice job of it without damaging my hair overmuch.

I'd love to learn how to:

rollerset so I can have "Victoria's Secret" hair, huge bouncy curls

do some of the intricate Celtic styles I've seen on ladies with really long hair.

I'd like to learn how to do braids, twists, bantu knots.
I'd also like to flat iron my hair so I won't get the urge to fully relax. I like my hair lightly texturized because I use less products to maintain it. I'm feenin' for some Phyto!

I would love to learn to blow out my hair so it looks like I just had a relaxer without using flat iron. I went to a hairdresser who recommends that I stop relaxing, grow my hair natural and blow dry it straight. I was blown away with how she was able to straighten my natural root with just the blow dryer. She charges $120 to learn the blowing out technique but I refuse to pay the money to learn:nono: :nono: so I will be looking out for tips in that area.

Obviously my hair styling techniques are limited.

Henna is a mind over matter thing. The hardest part about henna is getting over the initial fear of making a mistake with the color. Once I got over the fear (that henna is a lot of work, might change my hair color into something I didn't like) and gave it a try, I realized that it was the easiest thing to do. I haven't done any special mixes; just add hot water and a little amla oil to the henna powder mix them together, put it in my hair, go under the dryer, rinse and style. My hair has never changed color - it's still black. Maybe that's because I use the henna within 30-60 minutes of mixing. The longer you henna, the prettier your hair gets. Give it a try, you will be amazed how easy it is. (And this is coming from someone who would never ever use traditional dyes at home by myself to dye my hair because I thought my bathroom would be a mess if I did!)

I would like to learn how to trim my own hair. I desperately need a trim and I don't have anyone I can trust. I'd also like to learn how to do a wet set with magnetic rollers.

I'd like to learn how to do unfrizzy twist/braid outs! :licK:

I'd master my Caruso steamer, Pin curls, flexi-rod sets and no-knot cornrows.

I second "learning to make my own products".

2007 is gonna be a busy year.

I would like to learn how to self relax better. I can already do it, but as my hair gets longer, it gets more difficult.
Trim my ends. I hate the thought of having to rely on a stylist for this and only this.
And finally, HENNA. I read so much about henna yet I am still kinda clueless on what to buy and how to mix.
