Why do want human? To get those types of braids the braiding hair has to be longer than wl.

@My Friend, I usually fold the extension hair in half so I usually get half the length in braids of the hair I got. If you're one of those people who doesn't do that, then the 28"-30" human hair from www.hisandher.com might work for you.

I usually get Water Wave Regular and it's going for $119/pack. If you want Italian Mink which I imagine is too silky for my liking, you would pay about $279/pack.

I know those prices seem crazy but I use my hair for over a year at a time and I do reuse it.

This was one time and I had them in for a year:

This was another time (same hair) and I had the braids in for almost two years:

This is how long the braids are when the 28"-30" hair is folded in half. (I'm 5'2") I only used 1 pack and 1/8 of the second pack.

Thank you for the info on hisandher hair. Your hair looks great in the pics. How long did you wear those braids? I wonder what length would I need for the Beyonce braids look?

@Nonie

Thanks @My Friend. The first set I wore from Dec 2003 to Dec 2004. The second set I wore from maybe Jan 2005 or right at the end of Dec 2004 to Dec 2006. Then the last image shows braids I had in from April 2009 to August 2010.

Girl why don't you post the photo you're talmbout. I don't read every thread on the forum so I dunno (or can't remember) Bey's braids.

As I said, some people don't fold the extension hair in half when they braid. They only fold the end so you could probably get braids that are 26"-28" long if you did that with the length I get. For my short self, 28 inch nape braids would reach my butt! You would probably need to use two entire packs at least though if you don't fold the hair in half.

The only other thing that I worry about is the weight of the longer lengths. If you don't have long hair so that your scalp is used to carrying such lengths, I think it can be a shock to your scalp to go from carrying a lighter weight to carrying so much hair. I always wonder whether our scalps gradually adapt to longer heavier hair as our hair grows and whether going from short to long overnight might cause traction alopecia. Just a thought.

Human hair is lighter than synthetic though and if you are careful to use less extension hair per section of your own, you may be OK.

ETA: My Friend, I just noticed your question on whether non-celeb money folk can afford it. Well I am the cheapest person on the forum. In that year I'm in braids, I use no leave-in products, no braid spray, just shampoo and conditioner. And while some people say they use 4 oz - 8 oz of conditioner a wash, I use less than 2 oz on my hair even when I have extensions because I only apply it to my hair. I don't pay stylists and I am not a PJ. And as you can see $200 worth of hair lasts me a few years. I think folks who go to stylists and who get touch ups spend way more money than that.

Your braider could add more hair when she gets near the end of the regular length hair to get a longer braid
