Natural BOREDOM!!!

Ladies! This is more of a vent than anything...

I've been 100% Natural for a little less than 6 months and I am feeling sooo bored!Actually, Extremely Bored and Frustrated.

My hair is not hard to deal with or anything, I enjoy the maintenance, washing it, detangling and all that stuff. My texture is beautiful to me, and it's so healthy!

BUT, style-wise I am bored beyond bored. I wear a puff almost everyday. I don't really like twists at my current length, nor box braids. I don't like wearing it just out because it gets smushed by my coat. I don't want to go back to relaxers and I'm scared to use heat... but it's seeming like the only option.

I love my sister's cute bangs, and I love styling the hair of my friends with relaxed hair, it seems their options are limitless.

This might just be a length thing... my hair is around 7.5 inches stretched, but OY! I just want to look cute, and have my hair match my overall style!

Thanks for listening :ohwell: I think I'm going to get braids before I do anything I might regret later...

I guess I can relate to that but I love being natural, I like how different I can style my hair everyday. I also used scarves from time to time and I get a lot of looks when I go out. I love twisting it and the rolling it up for a different affect or twisting it small and wearing it out and as a huge funky afro with banging earrings and people are starring at me and some or smiling and its all good. I guess you have to really consider why you wanted to go natural - for me I was falling in love with the twist and funky afros, I am still headover heels in love with it and now my daughter who is a never leave the house without your relaxer in is considering going natural. She has 4 inches of new growth and decided for the first time that she will put a phony tail on and wear that for a while instead of running out to get relaxer, I am comfortable and confident in my natural hair. I wish you luck on whatever you decided to do, whenever I am feeling down about my hair, I think back to why I decided to go natural in the first place.

Thanks Trudy! I've been really trying to focus on my reasons for going natural! I honestly do not want to go back to relaxing, but I miss the styles! Ugh...

I can't really think of any style I did while relaxed that I can't do natural. I don't want to heat straighten right now, but I believe that when I'm ready, I can do so without heat damage by following the tips from other naturals. I can do a roller set on straightened hair or natural. I pretty much only did ponytails, buns, down/bumped, and occasionally roller sets when relaxed anyway. When I got bored with my relaxed hair (which was rare), I would cut my hair slightly, get bangs, or get a rinse.

Honestly, I feel a little overwhelmed because there are so many ways I can wear my natural hair if only I weren't style challenged.:ohwell: I still plan on mastering flat twists and comb coils/finger coils before March.

Braidout??? Twist-out??? Bantu-knot out? Maybe a cute updo??? Maybe some new snazzy hair accesories?? Is your hair long enough to bun (yeah, I guess assumes you consider buns stylish)

Personally, I don't understand when people say relaxed hair seems to have so many more styling options than natural hair. But that's never here nor there. If you're longing for relax hair styles, you could try heat styling.

When I'm fed up or needing a hair break, I go into braids.

Take the time to be creative and discover more styles. When you have natural hair you can always straighten it if u choose but with that relaxer ...well that's it. I am a person that loved to create all diff. styles when my hair was relaxed . I've been fully natural for 3 years now and I still wear many diff styles even when it was shorter. Did you see my pic in the UPA clip thread? that started from wanting to wear a long bang too..I 2 strand twisted a bang and banded to stretch the rest of my hair and put on the ponytail. I have also rollerset. I have flat-twisted when going on vacation and then after a few days have a nice curly twist-out. It took me a while to learn how to twist and feel that it looked nice on me. I wouldn't go back to a relaxer for anything. I think my hair is stronger and is on it's way to being longer than I ever got it with a relaxer .If u are seriously considering a relaxer u may as well experiment with pressing first to see if that's what u really want, u may not get a bad result and pressing with a warm comb is less stressful than lye.Sometimes when u wear a twist-out putting on a headband or scarf in front or pinning up the back gives it a whole diff look. I also liketo use diff. hair accessories. I'm also gonna do the weave challenge to give my hair a rest til April.

You are so right! There are tons of option with natural hair, I just don't really like how they look on my hair at the moment. I'm getting braids for sure, because I really don't wanna relax :nono:

Yep, so true Relaxing is it:ohwell:. Oh gosh, you don't even know how bad I want some bangs though! LOL, it's bad! I made some twists that fell like bangs not too long ago and they were kinda cute, so I'm gonna try what you suggested. What's a UPA? Off to look for that thread.

Hair product junkie reloaded!
you may want to try a couple of mohawk styles (not the shaved sides, but the braided sides) cuz those are fun!!!!!!

Also I second the suggestion to maybe wear braids or something for a while till you grow your hair out to a length you are more comfortable with.

I've found I have many more options with my natural hair than I ever did relaxed. I can go straighter simply with a rollerset and wrap. When I'm tired of that, I can rewet my hair and the curls reappear.

Hang in there. I got really bored before my grew long enough to have additional options, but my patience paid off. I'll never go back to a relaxer. An extra benefit: being natural keeps you from having to worry about humidity!

I think you should go with your braid extentision idea I was in the same boat as you and thats what I did
Braids are a good idea especially if you are frustrsted with length they will give you a break fom you hair and help you retain length
Kinky twist are great!
Another option is weaves that way you can play with length, texture and color
