Hair insults!

For instance, last week my cousins came over for a minute. They hadn't seen my sister in about 2 months. Now my sister's hair is almost bra-strap length and extremely thick. She's gained more than 2 inches since they last saw her. She wore a short cut and then a bob for years but everyone knows that her hair use to be waist length.
Her hair is type 4f (if there's such a thing) and beyond. Honestly. She could abuse the heck out of her hair and it will stay thick, bouncy and grow like crazy. And boy can it hold a curl.
Anyway, my cousin walks over to my sister, ran her hands through her hair and says "Huh, your hair feels like coconut husk. It's like wire" and starts to laugh. Mind you, my sister's hair was showing the heck off that day.
Now this is the same cousin who puts a weave in her daughter's hair. The one who's almost bald. The other cousin just laughs in a derogatory way and decides to stare at my head.
My sister was sooooooooooo mad. She told my cousin that she didn't have anything nice to say because she is just jealous so she should keep her comments to herself.
I'm sitting there applauding really loudly.
So what's the worst insult or derogatory comment you've ever received on your hair?
i had someone say the same thing to me. we were all at a friend's house letting her do our hair. the girl who made the comment had paper thin, broken, short hair. my hair was thick long and full. she grabbed it and said man you got some bad hair. i said no it's called thick. i could tell she was jealous b/c she kept staring at it.

I know im late...but the insults never end! My daughter overheard some kids at her camp saying behind her back that "she has all that hair and doesn't know what to do with it". First of all, I do her hair, she is 11. Second, this is my daughter's response "Obviously I know what im doing that's why it is long and healthy". It starts at home!

I'm stretching my relaxer 16 weeks this time but I didn't feel like fighting w/ it for New Years so I had a shampoo and blowdry this past Sat.
1 stylist asked me if I was going natural. The stylist who does my hair kept commenting on how "nappy" my hair was but that she'd seen worse.
THEN she said she needed to trim my hair to give it shape and when I said "no thanks" she switched it up and said that my ends were really split.
After my hair was done (and looking purty) another stylist said that she didn't realize that it was my hair. She thought it was a weave......
I DO NOT HAVE SPLIT ENDS (frizzy ends maybe, but not split).
I wish I had the confidence to self relax.....

People are always going to have comments... my hair has been everything from a TWA to Relaxed APL. I've worn wigs, weaves, twists and braids. And I've heard it all. From blacks and whites... I'm glad, though... 'cause if I didn't hear some of them, I never would have subscribed to this board.

What does that have to do with anything? Obviously she thought it wasn't possible and that I must have "color struck" issues by wanting to grow long hair. What can I say she's from the old school south. But I was still offended...I thought she was more open minded than that!

I went into Sally's the other day and one of the ladies that worked there said. " if I would have seen u walk into my salon with that nappy hair I would have ran." 
I have have very thick hair and it is mid-back. So i was in there buying Two boxes of ORS relaxers for my hair. Here she come again with her comments. " u have to use two boxes on your head? u need to do something about that stuff on your head.
There was a nice old lady there who liked my hair and wanted some hair tips. The main tip that I told her in front of the lady is that i don't go to beauticians.
That shut here up quick.

It always be people with unhealthy hair that have something smart to say. If she was nice I would have gladley givin any hair tips that might help her.

My brothers girlfriend has called me this past wknd and was telling me how she asked her dominican stylist to give her big curls since she was goin out for new yrs and her stylist the whole time is like mami your hair is damaged.. it is really damaged…

i went to the bb store and i going to buy a big jar of some thing and the girl that work there asked the man that was waiting on me why you giveing her a big jar and she got short hair she donot need that much i said what did you say and she like i mean that your hair cut is cute and i was trying to save you some money i ask her who you ask you to save me any damm thing it was bad enough that idid not like the hair cut so that hurt

The OP, your cousins were just jealous. The comment was filled with hateration.
I had people joke about my napputural hair when I first transitioned. The payback was this week when they saw how thick and long it had gotten. I even had family members asking me if they should go natural.

Wow, I'm thankful that everyone around me seems to keep their hair issues to themselves.
I only have problems when I go to the salon. She laughed and was basically saying that my hair type was a special case, and I couldn't get away with going more than 5 weeks between relaxers. She didn't say the word nappy, but she said the word "thick" as if it were a substitute for nappy.

oh, I forgot about my old roomate (whom I still adore). She NEVER had long hair and it was soooo course and broken off and her hair line was really far back. I later told her that her hair wasn't course it was damaged and that her hair line was really an inch lower than she thought it was. That was because she permed her hair every 4 weeks and didn't do anything else to it EVER. So as you can tell I really wanted to help her and she responded by cooing over my hair and telling me how much she wanted to "JUST CUT IT ALL OFF" if every chance she got.erplexed At first it was funny, but then I really started getting scared.

You know...I didn't feel as though this thread was for me BUT It IS..As I am reading all of this...I realize that similar comments that I had dismissed should not have been dismissed by me. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. And to my own naiveness I took advice from these haters who saw my hair growing long and would tell me my hair was damaged, that I needed a 2 to 3 inch cut or that I need to do something to my hair...it's just there, or that my hair was super thick. I listened to them and then tried to style my hair, or use products that I should not have used. Wow the green-eyed monster is everywhere.
Now my hair is Natural and I love it. I did the big cut October 2006. I never was happy with my hair being relaxed as a kid and now as an adult I have chosen a different route. My family is not happy about it. My fiance says he prefers long hair. They are all like, what are you going to do with it. It's nappy. But guess what...this is my life, my hair and I don't want to hear it. I love my natural self.

My girlfriend and I had tried a new salon and the service was so-so. We get back to her home right after getting our hair done and her mother said "well what time is your hair appointments I can drive yall" . We told her we got our hair done and she says"if you wanted to waste 40.00 you could have just given that money to me." We felt so bad...
Im just happy she insulted me and I didnt go back to Hair it is.

I'm glad she's not your roommate anymore!! I've heard a lot of haterade from family and co-workers over the years, but you guys mantioned most of it already.
There was this one co-worker who kept her hair really short that made a comment I won't forget. She's a little older than I am, but she looked at my hair (during the last blue moon that I wore it down at work) and said something about the older you get the shorter your hair should be. She just didn't think women over 29 should have long hair. I wanted to say, 'Well, *****, that's your problem"....but I didn't. I was a good girl that day.

I just looked at him like he was crazy and said, "Of course". He was new and most of the other people in the elevator already knew it was my real hair so they looked at him funky, too.

O.k. I might be a overly sensitive, but I get offended when white males ask me if my hair is mine. I was cracking up when I read this. Thank the Lord she is now an OLD roomate I would be afraid to go to sleep myself after hearing someone make a comment like that.Similar threads
