I am really freaked out!

I have a scar along my hairline from about five years ago. It seemed healed until about a week ago. I put in yarn braids/genie locs for the second time in a year. The first time was fine and easy. But this time I notice that the scar on my hairline is raised, red, and becoming darker. There are exactly three hairs in the scar, but to me they look like little hair plugs because the skin around it is so red and raised. It is tender and hot to the touch. I keep my hair in a bun, maybe it is putting to much pressure on the scar hairs?? But like I said I already had yarn braids and this was not a problem. I've been all over google but I cannot find anything about scars acting up after five years? I am thinking of just cutting these three hairs out of the braid. I am honestly confused...does anyone have any advice?

Not an expert, but I worry that your style is too tight overall and it's just more apparent at the point where you have a scar. Does your scalp/hairline feel painful anywhere else?

I have a tiny scar from stiches received when I was a child. Although it is super old, it can still be a little tender if the style is too tight. You should remove the braids in that area.

Bent. Not Broken.
Could also be an allergic reaction. The scar tissue is probably way more sensitive. The dyes in textiles can be really irritating to sensitive/damaged skin. Reactions sometimes don't happen for years. I recently had a horrible reaction to synthetic blend hair after wearing extensions/weave for 20+ years. :ohwell:

You gotta take out those extensions yesterday. You don't want the reaction spreading and loosing more hair surrounding the area.

Okay! So today I wore my braids in a relaxed hair style so the edges were not tight. The scar didn't get red so I think the braids are to tight. I've also started rubbing antibiotic cream on the scar and the raises are scabbing over a bit so I think it will lighten. I am going to redo the braids along the scar.
