Natural Gel Recommendations

I have been experimenting with gels. I haven't found anything that I really like. Eco stylers leave my hair really crunchy even with an oil underneath or over. Other gels don't have enough hold. I saw some from Giovannis that I might like to try. But I can't tell the difference between the gels, wax and pomades. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone tried any of these stylers from Giovannis. I know flaxseed gel and the likes are popular but I would prefer to buy something and not make my own. TIA

I used Giovanni LA Natural last summer. It didn't have enough hold to stand up to the high dews. It also kept drying out and matting my hair due to the humectants (my hair HATES humectants). I eventually had to give up all commercial gels because every one I tried made my hair overreact.

Kinky Curly Curling Custard is all-natural. It had no hold to it and either left me with super dry (wintertime) or super frizzy (summertime) hair.

I'm with you on not wanting to be bothered making stuff, but flaxseed gel is extremely easy to make. 5 minutes is all it takes for me. So far, it's the only gel I've ever used that hasn't caused my hair to freak. That's not saying much, though, because I still don't love it (not enough hold). I just tolerate it.

I also used Giovanni la naturals gels and gave it away because my hair hated it. Crunchy, flakly, just an all around mess.

Flax seed has worked the best for my hair. But if I am just looking to tame ky edges I can use products with lighter hold

I use and love Fantasia ic gel.

What are you trying to do with your hair though? I have other gels but I may not use them the same way as I would the Fantasia IC gel. Like I would only use Fantasia if I was trying to slick my hair back or do a flexirod set, but may use others to wear my hair curly.

Have you tried Jerry curl gel in the tub? If you have your hair moisturized & sealedjerry curl , then use a bit of the Jerry curl stuff & smooth through, for me, it left my hadoir ultra defined, a little goes a long way, & I don't get flakes. It's not natural but it's cheap (64oz tub for $7 @walgreens) & my hair & I like it.

Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel is all natural and works well on my hair. It stays moisturized, combats shrinkage, and defines my curls without making it hard or crunchy. It also works well with just about any leave in. I've been using it for a while and haven't had any adverse effects.

ITA with this whole post. IC Fantasia is great for smoothing with light-medium hold. Long Aid Curl Activator gel for wash n goes, Eco for heavy hold.

I need the hold for slicking my hair back but something that doesn't leave it extra crunchy. All the gels I have I like enough well enough for anything else. I just need something for the front, back and edges, my trouble spots.

I've tried them all. I liked the pink one a lot when I was relaxed. Now that I'm natural not so much.

The white one has great hold and I'm using that now but I have to use a good amount of oil to keep the crunch at bay.

Don't like the brown one at all.

The green one - that's the one with argan oil I think was good for a while. I liked that one the best actually but I guess so does everyone else because no matter where I go they're always all gone. I hope to find it soon so I can try it again.

Idk, maybe I just have to live with crunchy hair? :ohwell:

Have you tried the blue Eco Styler with a hold of 5?

What about a curl activator gel? The ingredients aren't 100% natural, but many of them are very moisturizing and offer decent hold.

BraunSugar I've never seen the blue eco styler. I'll definitely look for that one.

I've tried a few curl activator gels like the scurl. There's another one i tried that I think is called fantasia ic activator gel or something. Those are the only two. I like them because my hair is still soft after. But I'm not in love, ya know.

Agreed. This is the only kind of gel that my hair can tolerate. :yep:
