Do you use cones or oil? I could put oil on before combing and it will get all bushy and frizzy and just basically I messed up my style so I don't do it anymore. I have saw on YouTube people comb it before my very eyes and it looks laid down and faboulous , what's the secret? I'm talking about combing curls out after roller setting

Hair texture. I have certain parts of my hair that are coarser and do whatever I want while the rest of it rebels.

The only brushing tool that's given me curls is a Denman, with wet hair. Not brushing with a straight downwards motion, but twirling a bit at the ends to give the hair form, and working in small sections.

I do think the hair needs to have a curl pattern on its own, I'm not sure it'll give a pattern if one isn't already present.

If my hair isn't conditioned properly with lots of slips then there's nothing my Denman brush nor shower comb can do for me. Your hair needs to be soaking wet and have the slip first.

It could depend on many factors. Sometimes texture and porosity have much to do with it. It could also be the products used to. Frizz can be due to an imbalance that can be causing the cuticles to lift or not close properly. My curl comb fine after a roller set, but one of the biggest factors involved was my heat protectant.

Please excuse my iPhone; it's trying to get it together

How long is your hair, what look are you going for and what size rollers are you using??

A lot of the ladies w/long hair ( past apl) who rollerset only do it for a semi-sleek relaxed look...not necessarily for the curls. They use BIG rollers so there is not a lot of curl and they can easily comb thru

When I rollerset i use small rollers ( less then the 1 inch) I get a nice curly wave and my hair is only just past SL. I do not comb my curls. If I did I prob would get frizz. I finger style and finger comb. I use my fingers to pull the curls to frame my face the way I like and to get rid of the parts. It still wont look quite the way I want so I will use my fingers to rake it into a loose wrap. Then tie on a satin scarf for a few minutes. Then finger comb the hair back into place.

I can comb my hair out and it'll get poofy, but if I apply some oil (avocado is one of my favorites), do two ponytails, and leave it alone for a few hours... my hair is a little more "tame." Doesn't always work if the weather is hot.

If you are talking about a roller set, I would say the problem is uneven ends. My hair always responded good when my ends were even.

So moisturize your situation and trim your ends.
