Okay yes I'm a picture wh*re can't help it. I'm thinking about getting some for me and my girls as a PS since I'm hoping the style will last a week or more. TIA

You can probably search for the old curl former thread challenge. I think it was started this year but has been sort of quiet.

I did a Vakind Roller Set (curl formers knock off) last week, but unfortunately deleted the pics I took. I used the same products as usual and my hair came out very smooth and shiny. I got tons of compliments and normally my natural hair is very dull looking. I'll take a picture next time I do it. That should be next weekend.

Here are sum pics of my set. Unfortunately I have to post the pics one @ a time due to my stupid iPad. The products I used to hold the set from frizz is Eco styler gel (the olive oil one). Once the curls are dry, I used chi silk oil, but you can use any oil you want.

2nd pic. I never wear the curls done unless its the 2nd week of me having the curls in. I usually just leave them pinned up, using four spin pins.

God's Own
HairPleezeGrow- I purchased some knockoff curlformers (KOC) from Amazon. I used them on my DD hair (who is more than grown :yep: - seriously) who needed to style her hair for an affair that night. Preferablly without heat so I suggested we try the KOC . We let her hair air dry and did a quick pass with the blowdryer just in case. Her hair came out fabulously!!! She is nowhere near a hair junkie or enthusiast but she was very impressed and happy with the results. She was able to style her hair in different styles the entire weekf from her KOC hairdo and for my daughter to do this is a BIG deal. :yep:

(unfortunately I had to return the set because couple of them were damaged before we even used them) But we have decided to bite the bullet and each purchase a set of the real curlformers.

pelohello - my daughter's hair was fabulous and yours is gorgeous.

OP, I highly recommend you buy the longest ones possible. Around X-Mas, I ordered 50 of the knock offs on eBay. Apparently, I wasn't paying attention and ordered 18" instead of the 22". Girl, my hair is too long for those 18" curlformers.

I'm going to order some 29" ones from eBay soon, to avoid future problems.

I love curlformer sets they give me chemical/ thermal relaxed results on my natural hair when I want to wear it straight. The curls fall within 24-48 hours if you want to rock straight styles without using a flat iron/Marcel comb/heat etc.
:yep:

I posted some pics with examples of the nightmare of not getting the longest ones possible.

Good Luck!

I wish i could pin my hair up like that, it would look a mess if i did it and curls might frizz from me doing it over and over smh

You have some gorgeous sets. Do you leave the curls alone or pull them apart?

Thank you for the tip. I'm going to look into the longer ones then. How long does you set last and what do you set it with? Beautiful by the way.

I really want the new Extra Long & Extra Wide (Extra Long Barrel Curls) but 24 of them for $73 for real? :perplexed I think I'd need like 3 of those kits.

You can get a pack of 40 curlers too, which is what I ended up ordering last week. I got a discount from Sally's so I went ahead and ordered the smaller spiral curls...if I like how it blends my hair (I'm transitioning) I'll consider returning it and then forking over the $150 for 2 sets of the bigger Barrel Curls.

The kits/prices: http://www.curlformers.com/styling-kits.htm

@HairPleezeGrow - after shampooing I applied the following products before installing the curlers:

ORS Curls Unleashed LI
Eco Styler Gel w/ Argan Oil
Whipped Shea Butter Mix (Shea butter whipped w/ various Ayuvedic, castor, coconut, rosemary, peppermint, cedarwood, thyme and olive oils) **Inspired by Naptural85's recipe**

Forgot to mention - her curls very shiny after taking out the curlers

I got the knockoff versions off ebay as it's not worth spending that much to get the actual thing. The only thing I got from the actual site was their portable blowdryer as mine couldn't fit the generic curlformers in and I got tired of sleeping in them overnight.

Here's a set I did with the Jane Carter Wrap and Roll. I don't care for the product as it has very little slip but yet it gives wonderful shine. I'm thinking of trying the Beautiful Textures curl defining mousse with it next time though. I used too big sections so my roots didn't get that flat though. I still need to find a way to better preserve my sets though.

I don't have any pictures to share however thanks to the OP for this thread. My tightly coily hair looks shiny and nice though somewhat anemic  when I have removed the curlformers in the past but then the curls fall right away (within hours - especially if I have to sing and move around at church) they do not last:nono: My hair is fine so that may mean that I should stay away from the oil. I love that my hair is stretched but there is no style. Maybe I'll try it again this weekend with the Lottabody or flaxseed gel. I used Nairobi in the past (which I love but it doesn't give a hard enough hold). Another thing - the last two times I did this I slept in them and my scalp was sooooooooooo sore - it wasn't always that way.:perplexed
