Chicken Pox on scalp

Hi guys. I was diagnosed with the chicken pox yesterday at 24, and my scalp is on fire! I literally cannot sleep longer than 2-3 hours at a time. The only thing that gives me any relief is when I submerge my head in the tub when I take a bath, but I can't lay in the tub all day. Any product recommendations? I'm currently sitting with a banana, avocado, honey and vinegar mask I found online and my scalp is still burning. I've been taking an anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine too.

I was thinking of getting this.

Oh no! I remember getting the chicken pox at age 13. I still have scars from that. Whatever happens, do not scratch the blisters. I don't have any particularly useful product recommendations. Good luck! And remember not to scratch!

I would ask the doctor who diagnosed you first what he/she recommends for your scalp before you try anything. In the meantime I would try an oatmeal soak:

If the doctor says it's okay, then a conditioner with tea tree would help. I like the Giovanni and Paul Mitchell ones. I hesitate to say to use Tea Tree before asking your doctor because that stuff is literally like paint thinner.:nono:

Feel Better!

I am so sorry!! I don't know if you have access to ayurvedic products but neem powder and neem oil are good for itchy scalps.

Calamine lotion is soothing and can be used on the entire body, including the scalp. I used it when my DD had chickenpox and it brought her a little relief. Hope you feel better.

Do you have any Aloe Vera Gel and/or Olive Oil.

Also baking soda:
Baking soda can help control the itchiness and irritation from chickenpox.

Stir one-half tablespoon of baking soda in a glass of water.
Use a sponge to put the solution on the affected parts of the body. Allow the mixture to dry on the body.

The oatmeal treatment is good as well. You can make an oatmeal paste for your hair.

You can also do a clay treatment if you have any bentonite clay or other type. Mix it with AVG and olive oil.

That's terrible! :nono: I had it at eight, and that was hell. I can't imagine as an adult. I 2nd calamine lotion and oatmeal paste on your scalp. They temporarily soothe the itch. Feel better soon!

I have no real suggestions other than to use ground up oatmeal & make a paste.

But I had chicken pox as an adult and it's horrible. Definitely do not scratch. I have a pox mark in my forehead to this day.

So it's 24 hours later and I feel so much better! I soaked my head in Aveeno Oatmeal Bath and then used the extra strength anti-itch shampoo. I based my scalp in calamine and while it still itched, it was much more manageable and I could sleep. After the third time, I noticed my scalp felt much better so I decided to base my scalp in Wen, which has menthol and could help numb the scalp. Also, the calamine was super drying to my hair. Today, my scalp doesn't itch at all, but it's just very sore and inflammed. That should go away soon.

Thanks for all the help! And hopefully this thread can help some poor unfortunate soul in the future

I had the chicken pox in November last year. I had very few bumps thank God!!! My advice to you- buy l-lysine pills ASAP, the largest you can find and take them often! It will reduce the number of bumps you get and help your body deal with the virus. Bathe your skin with baking soda dissolved in water. Add tea tree oil and lavender to your calamine lotion. I kept my calamine in a spray bottle, that made applying it so much easier. Look up the lysine aragnine levels in the food you are eating. you want to eat foods high in lysine at this time. Arganine is the worst thing to be consuming a lot of when you are fighting a virus....
