Chicoro Amino Acid strengthening treatment vs Design Essential Strengthening Therapy

Design Essentials sounds interesting, but I was wondering what is the difference with Chicoro methods. I watched her Youtube video (link below) she posted some time ago and those amino acids that she uses are expensive, especially cystine. I'm just curious. I remember this one treatment I put on my hair that was suppose to treat it, condition and strengthen my hair and I had two huge balls of hair in each hand after I pressed my hair because I was natural at the time. It wasn't noticable because my hair was so dense but I do remember that treatment. I'm not saying Design Essentials is that way because I'm tempted to buy it for my relaxed hair, but for the next several months I'm doing braids and it just wouldn't benefit me now. I also know that everything does not work for everybody. I can do Chicoro method now because it's suppose to attract moisture into hair strands in addition to strengthening them. Just want some imput before I make any kind of investment whether I'm purchasing the amino acid powder for Chicoro method, or the Design Essentials Silk Strengthening Spray. What do you think. Can Chicoro pre protein treatment be just as effective in strengthening hair strands like the Design Essentials Strengthening Therapy? For those who are interested in elognating their natural hair for manageability purposes, that's different. I'm interested in strengthening my hair and both use amino acids. Here is the video for those interested.

And :look: Chicoro, since you here and all :look: :giggle:, you have a new fan... well, two if you count my mother. I'm fine-haired and texlaxed, my hair looooves protein. I use a light reconstructor once or twice a week. My question is, would this be considered a light-, medium-, or heavy- strength protein treatment? The amino acids are in my shopping cart and my card is in hand. I am oh-so-ready. :yep:

I have both the amino acid concoction that Chicoro mentioned and the DE system. However, I have yet to use the DE system. I did use the amino acids and I loved it. For the past few months, I was wondering whether or not the two systems are comparable. I think I will continue to explore this.

Does chicoro treatment leave your hair frizz- free?

I bought all the amino acids too and will be doing my first treatment this week. I know the DE system has different components, transitioning, strengtheing, etc. I'm relaxed and I'm interested in strengthening my hair so I would buy from the DE the Silk Strengthening treatment. Because Chicoro pre protein treatment is also amino acids it just got me thinking. Anyhow, I made my decision to try Chicoro method and hope I will achieve strengthen strands. I'm glad to hear you loved it. I will give update after my treatment.

LisaMar Greetings!

Did you ever do the Design Essentials? If so what were the results? How does it compare to Chicoro's pre-protein treatment? Do they both make the hair more manageable, stronger, moisturized, etc.?

Thank you in advance for any of your assistance.

Re: Chicoro Amino Acid strengthening treatment vs Design Essential Strengthening Ther

I had DE's STS system and I think it caused me a set back and it messed up my scalp I think?
Still working out if it was caused by that though

I LLOOVVVEEDDDD the results though. Although looking back I feel like my hair now with a good deep condition is just as good.

I actually spend £150 on a whole bottle and have only used it once.

It may have been the process which gave me a set back, or maybe because is tarted roller setting at the same time.. still unsure.

Even though I've had DE STS twice I feel like I still am unsure on it, I may do it again to decide if I like it.

As you can tell by this very incoherent post I have mixed feelings on the STS system.

That Chicoro method sounds and looks promising. I just might try it sometime. Not right now though because I have way too many products to go through and finish up.

I have everything to do this next Sunday. I've been researching the different types of protein and found that the small sized protein approach is perfect.
Will detail my thoughts soon.

@Chicoro

Can you answer if this is a light, medium or strong protein treatment?. Are you still doing this treatment?

@mzteaze,
This would be a light to medium protein treatment. I considerate it an effective treatment. I don't have the time to do it for myself right now. (I'm in grad school in a foreign country). This recipe allows you to suspend/encapsulate the protein microscopically so it can absorb into the hair strand. It may adsorb (bind to the surface of the hair strand) as well.

By the way. This is another option for a light to medium treatment. I like to create or modify or suggest different ways to do things and put an explanation with it to try to help others to better understand hair products and processes.

Thanks so much for answering so quickly. Congrats on grad school!

I'm excited to try this treatment and have scheduled it as a once a month treatment. It should work well for me.

Wow, I can't believe she answered so quickly. She's so nice and I love her YT videos. I'm subscribed to her channel as well.

I just watched her video on how to soften a shampoo. That's a really good video too. Some shampoos just seem too harsh and this video helped me a lot and I will be using her method to soften the harsh ones that I have.

I'll look into getting those products a little later. Let us know @mzteaze, how it worked for you.

So, actually did this tonight. I need to cut the recipe back just a bit as it makes more than I need.

But I will definitely be doing this once a month.

@mzteaze, What did you like about the treatment? Does it do anything for frizz at all? Getting ready to try this soon too.

My hair really likes protein, so it responses to all kinds of protein treatments. My goal for this year is to address my protein needs from inside and out. So, I liked that this treatment since it uses small sized amino acids as part of the proteins. It fits my new philosophy on proteins which is why I liked it. I said I would use it several times this year to fully evaluate it and any results.

I don't really have a problem with frizzy hair, so I'm not sure if this will do what you want.

I will say this though, make sure you follow up with a fragrant shampoo and conditioner as I didn't and could still smell the mix on my scalp. Or add some essential oils. I have my new block of tofu, so I will modify my next batch. Also, just so I wouldn't get stuck with a bunch of expensive vitamins, I used the same ones from a cheaper source. I liked it enough that I will soon invest in the better vitamins.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the well wishes and you are welcome!

Chicoro just came across your pre-wash protein treatment. Would this work even if I am protein sensitive? Also I can only get the amino acids in tablet form? Should I just use 1 tablet each or would this be too much?

I don't know. That is something I cannot determine. You may need to try it and see. I know and that may be a bit of a risk though. The tablets will have fillers. You'll need to dissolve in a bit of Gin. Water dissolution is not ideal but works. Regarding the tablets, what are they exactly and what is their quantity and strength? 100 mg? Etc

Appreciate the quick reply. I found the methatione and cysteine in powder form but not cystine (notavailable even in tablet form!). I hate living in the UK sometimes for this very reason! haha
