What shape are your curls?

I have S shaped curls. They're really just tight waves, not spirals. I can coax them into spiraling, and it spirals naturally at the end.

When using the Tightly Curly method a la Terry LaFlesh, I get a tubular effect. It's cute at first, but the tube spiral curls frizz at the roots because it really wants to be wavy.

Anyway, what kind of curls do you have? This isn't a definitive list of all the types, but here are some to help you think about it. Define it yourself:
S, spiral, zig zag, combo, whatever.

Most of my hair forms small spiral curls, but the top and crown forms s-shaped curls. I have to really fluff my hair so that I don't end up with a flat top or triangle shaped hair.

You have given me some food for thought on my s-shaped curls, maybe I should leave this section be rather than try to shingle the curls. The crown tends to have puffy roots.

Yeah Joigirl I have the most luck doing a light shingling method where I focus on giving the crown some lift, rather than creating spirals.

Tight spiral curls - like a phone cord- slightly smaller than pencil size. My curl pattern always surprises me because I never really saw it during years of relaxers.

Mix of S curls and Spirals. When I did TC it spirals but I think I have the same issue as you, it frizzes SO much if I do that, especially in the crown.

Ranges between really large 3c S curls to pen sized 4a spirals.

Mine is like this too! However, the waves are really small so I just call myself 4a/b. Thats how it appears when shrunken.

My side edges are 4b tiny spirals mostly.

I checked again to make sure and it seems my hair forms tiny O shaped coils wet or dry. :spinning:

But I was looking for Z's though. :spinning:

I have S shaped curls with spiral ends.

Which always confuses me because a characteristic of my hair type (3b/c) is spirals!

I have a mix of spiral curls and S curls. I have a section in the front of my head that has the S curls( waves) . The rest of my head has the spiral curls and they are pretty tight.

My hair is mostly Z shaped with some O's in between. My hair is Z pattern all the way through the strand then when it gets to the end of the strand it forms an O

Does anyone think that spiraly hair turns to wavy hair as it grows? I can't remember what mine was like at shorter lengths.

I really dk...I think a mixture of S and spirals (corkscrew). My hair kind of looks like yours Joi but I think your curls are bigger than mine.

Thanks krissyhair! This really worked. I no longer have a poofy crown. I just leave the wavy clumps alone rather than trying to make them spiral like the rest of my hair. The crown looks much better.
