im sure , my hair has reached its terminal length which is scraping bsb at its longest and barely chin length at its shortest

i'm healthy etc so this isnt a health issue.

anyone else with a very short terminal length.

Quitting my hair journey..4 pointless years...i started off with about 3 inches and only gained 9 in 4 years.....a poor effort.

slapping a weave on this ish.

Not to laugh in the face of your frustration, but the last line in your post had me ROFL! Maybe the weave will protect your hair underneath and help with retention. IDK, but maybe you've tried that too.

i dont think i have a terminal length. ive never seen my hair just stop growing. ive seen my hair get set back from bad hair care practices, and ive seen it grow back, and grow longer than it was the last time.

my hair is the longest its ever been, i think, and i expect it to get even longer from here.

i just leave my hair alone now. im almost bsl (im tall so ill probably need what is equivalent to a 16 inch weave before my hair feels comparable) and this is a good length for me to just stop messing with it. before when my hair was shorter i had to manipulate it and tear it out all the time trying to find a way for it to look decent. now i can finally just throw it in a ponytail and not feel like i look bald.

I sometimes wonder. I've never had hair pre board (beyond twa) and haven't seen any women in my fam longer than SL/CL. My hair has definitely slowed down this year and I'm around SL. :/

I only wanted APL lol

I think you're not retaining or you're a slow grower. Personally, I dont think that this terminal length thing is anything other than a psychological barrier. "My hair will never be any longer so whatever". Stick to it, you may surprise yourself.

I understand your frustration OP. I think what you are seeing is your functional terminal length, the longest length you can achieve with your current hair care practices. Even with your current regimen your hair has still been exposed to the elements, manipulation and possibly heat. I can't tell you what to do to get over this hair length plateau, but if longer hair is really what you want you shouldn't feel discouraged.

The only reason long hair isn't meant for someone is if they don't want to put in the time and effort to achieve it and that is the case with people from all races and textures.

OP, I used to think that about my hair. Never could get it beyond APL at the longest in my life. Then these past two years I focused on retaining what I grew rather than growing out my hair--I already established that it grew--and it made all the difference. That meant I stopped using combs and brushes (just my fingers for styling and detangling), and focused on finding a regimen that got the balance of protein and moisture just right for my relaxed hair. Now I am just grazing WL, and will probably see HL/TBL by this time next year. All with no weaves, wigs or extensions. I figured out that it was more important to figure out ways to keep my hair from breaking off, rather than getting it to grow, and if that meant going around for days (or weeks) looking not as cute as I liked, it was all for the long-term goal of extreme low manipulation. Maybe that's something you could look into, if you haven't been practicing it already. :ohwell:
