Natural ladies, How do you keep the greys away?

I have a large streak of white in the front. I wish it made me feel defiant or dramatic. I just feel old looking at these "white" hairs. They do not have normal characteristics either. It is like trying to straighten out Christmas tree tinsel. Do you remember the kind that came in a package and we threw it on the tree? My edges are always white. I wish I could accept it. It is not like I am bald. I do not wear it straight often. I tried henna during the early years of my journey. The orange roots and the difficulty in obtaining a uniform color did not work well for me. It is rare that what I used gave me black or even somewhere near dark brown. I used the 2 step with indgo and it still did not look good. The texture and thickness appearance with henna was nice but I wanted some coverage. I tried that gray coverage line that is an upgrade from jazzing. It was ok. I used it in January and have not repeated it yet. I guess I have grown and inch or two. Good luck with your coverage. Don't worry about being called natural. You are what you say you are. It's your hair on your head. What you do has to work for you!!

I'm natural and I color my hair. I tried plenty of stuff and I've decided to just color it. Do what you need to do.

I use henna and indigo to cover my grays. My hair ends up Black with dark brownish red highlights. I really like the color, but the process takes all day.

I'd been using a color stick by Kiss Trucolor but you have to do it everyday. Today I bought some Nice n' Easy Root touch up. I found some more grays in my crown yesterday. They have got to go.

Natural and color my hair here as well. I didn't want to go darker and therefore, after trying henna plus indigo, decided it wasn't for me.

I would try henna, but I don't want red highlights. I want my hair jet black. I wonder if I can find a herbal natural dye that won't have ammonia in it.

Clairol Natural Instincts semi-permanent. My mom used to use it to cover her grays and it worked fabulously. Plus it left her hair shiny. I used to use it too, great product. It has no ammonia.

I want my hair a nice dark brown because it is a dusty sandy color naturally. I tried henna but it dried my hair out even after using numerous moisturizing conditioning treatments.

Plus I hate the process.

Henna all the way, I actually like the orange rusty brown, it looks like highlights to me and I always get compliments about. But the process is an all day process. Recently I started putting my henna over night and it's been ok on the time. I try to put it on around 11pm and as soon as I wake up around like 8:30 I good to go.
Once a month has been good, the more u henna the grays stay put.

I will start to color my hair. I have a few grays sprinkled throughout my head and I have a few strands in the front and I hate it. I don't like gray hair at all.

My hair is natural and I dye it black every 12-16 weeks. I've been using Shea Moisture hair dye, it doesn't have ammonia PinkSunshine77

thanks, I honestly hate Shea Moisture products because they have too much Protein for my hair, but I can give it a shot especially since it's not something I'll be doing as often as I was doing relaxers.

I watched a vid of a lady saying why she doesn't use Henna anymore. I don't have time for an 8 hr process for some color that won't even be fully black. Thanks for your input. I am glad it's working for some ladies though.:yep:

We must share that same dusty sandy brown hair  When the sun hit it this spring, it turned some type of ashy brown :nono: It was HORRIBLE  I threw that color in with the quickness.

I don't know if the color has protein in it or not. You may need to check the ingredients. But it is a permanent color so you may not want a permanent color. If you do use a demi-permanent or permanent color you should balance your hair's ph immediately after your final rinse and do a keratin protein treatment 4 days after your color to strengthen your strands.

You may be able to get by with a semi-permanent one of the other poster's mentioned. They are less damaging. You may want to try them first.

Shea Moisture doesn't have ammonia. There are more and more brands that don't have ammonia. You should be able to find black with no ammonia especially if you are going the semi-permanent route.
