Do any of you ladies Deep Condition your hair under your wig? Under your stocking cap?

I have been doing this for a week now and wanted to know the pros and cons.

My Stats:

Natural
TWA
Daily Cowasher
Lives in Hawaii (humidity)

I'll be honest. My wigs are pretty expensive and take a lot of prep work to look natural so I'd never do that. I don't want to have to keep washing my wigs. I already wash them 1x per week or biweekly.

I don't wear wigs much anymore, but when I did, I would deep condition under my wig frequently. I would put on the dc, put on a shower cap, put on a wig cap/scarf, apply my wig and go! It saved me the time of having to dc overnight or under the dryer.

I liked the convenience but I usually ended up with over moisturized hair by the time I got home

Oh thats understandable. I only wear mine in a bun at work so I use the cheaper ones. I wouldnt do it on my weekend wigs.

I do with my cheaper wigs with bangs it's easier to hide the plastic cap whilst still looking "natural"

Natural.
If there was a way to do it without the shower cap that wouldn't mess up the wig it might have been better. But all that trapped heat wasn't doing my hair any favors.

I don't use a shower cap. I just put the conditioner in the shower and then when I get out I towel blot it and put the wig cap on.

Have you tried it without the plastic cap? Just have the conditioner in, scrunch hair with a towel to prevent excess water then put wig cap on.

starchgirl, I always thought this would get too hot.

Yes....I have....usually not intentionally though......I would only do it with wigs with bangs asit is more forgiving with lumps

I'm doing it right now because I was lazy. I put the DC, braided my hair and let it dry overnight. Then I put on my scarf and my wig in the morning. I've had it in all week.

I'm natural

I Do! :yep:

I'll wrap my DC'ed Hair in Saran Wrap.

Put on a Plastic Cap and put on my Wig Cap & then Wig and go to the office.:look:

It usually works best for me in the Fall or early Spring.

Right now and/or Winter, I probably wouldn't do it during work hours.

But if I had a few 'quick' errands to run (like an hour or two, I definitely would).

I've dry DC'ed under a Wig in the winter tho'.

That sounds interesting. Have you done that before? What kind of conditioner do you use?

DCing now under my wig with this Silicone mix...I love how it smells! I am doing Hot yoga daily so I take the wig off and let my hair out for class for a steaming session, then rinse at night to clense my scalp of sweat and conditioner, let it air out at night then repeat the process in the morning. I love it! My hair stays moisturized.

Not since I've been natural. I used to do it when I was relaxed. I used SilkDreams Vanilla Silk
