What are your mandatory ingredients?

I've just been reviewing some old hair care threads and my my my how we have evolved around here.

I have learned and forgotten more about hair than I ever imagined. Just recently I was packing my house in preparation for moving and came across 1 of 50-11 conditioners and really liked the results. At the time of purchase I was relaxed but now I am natural. This particular product contains Silk Amino Acids and seems to work much better on my natural hair than it ever did on my relaxed hair.

Are you natural or relaxed?

When you are looking to purchase a good moisturizer, deep conditioner and or protein conditioner what ingredients must your product include and why?

Relaxed - I love behentrimonium methosulfate because it gently detangles and gives my hair a lovely silky feeling. Ceramides help to build and maintain the hair cuticle. It helps my hair to feel stronger.

Behentrimonium methosulfate is a must for my DCs and leave ins.

Avocado oil, marshmallow root, and aloe vera are preferred, but not always necessary for me.

I'm relaxed. I look for anything without alcohol, cones (occasionally I will do them ), parabens. I try to lean more on the natural side. But if it doesn't have those I listed I get. Like tresemme naturals I love that conditioner

What products have bm in them?

I can think of a few off the top of my head:
Shea Moisture detangler
Oyin hair dew
Oyin honey hemp cond.
Several Camille Rose products
Ingredients to Die For hair conditioners
Paul Mitchell's the Detangler
Darcy's Botanicals products

There are many more I couldn't think of, but I hope this list helps.

Yup my Hair loves the bolded ingredient. The problem is if there is aloe juice too high up on the list it negates all the good ingredients.

See that's why my hair didn't respond well to curls brule. I do not experience dryness in my hair and all of a sudden it was like a desert tjrj1998

About 80% natural. 30 months worth of natural hair with around 6 inches of relaxed ends. Both textures loves the following ingredients:
Water, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, argan oil, coconut oil, glycerin, aloe vera, keratin, panthenol, Stearalkonium Chloride and silk amino acids. In addition to these ingredients, products have to have a watery or lotion type consistency.

Yes! I spent a lot of time and money trying to make rich, buttery products work for me, but my hair hated them. Lotiony or gel like products are all my hair responds well to.

Same here---I have so many rich and buttery products that I could start my own Beauty Supply Store :lachen:

My hair loves lotion like consistency products. It especially loves, Marshmillow root, Water, Behentrimonium Methosulfate coconut oil, keratin, panthenol, whey protein and silk amino acid.

it does not like:
Aloe Juice (surprisingly)
Glycerin

Water, shea butter, behentrimonium methosulfate, olive oil, avocado oil, neem oil, castor oil, glycerin, lanolin, jojoba, and mineral oil. The products I use have to be thick, the watery or lotion types do nothing for my hair. For whatever reason my hair likes fatty oils.

Glycerin and some kind of cone (preferably dimethicone or amodimethicone), not really a cyclomethicone person for some reason :ohwell:

I like coconut oil as well.

I know this because every product I have ever liked has had one of the above cones + glycerine. I remember trying Tresemme Flawless curls lotion once. It only had the cones and no glycerine...hot ahh mess, SOO DRY.
Glycerin by itself is alright but with the cones it fab!

And coconut oil has just always worked for me, even as a child.

I'm natural.

I see now that my hair does not like these as well. What products work for your hair as far as daily moisturizers, leave-ins, shampoos and conditioners? Thanks

Texlaxed and another one for Behentrimonium metholsulfate. The old formula for Bed Head Dumb Blond has it which is also my reconstructor. It also has Keratin Amino Acids for protein.

Slippery elm and marshmallow root makes for a good detangler.

Seems like the consense is Behentrimonium Methosulfate, i never heard of it. guess i been spending too much time in the other forums. I will be checking my products for Behentrimonium Methosulfate.

the other product i keep hearing about it is the camilla rose products. I saw it yesterday but was not ready to depart with my favorite dead presidents. I really need to STOP BUYING and get on a for real spending freeze. Maybe i will go back to target and get it today and then go on the freeze.
