Girl on on instagram seems to believe that . What is wrong with people? Has she ever though that we love our natural hair. In this case I say natural meaning your hair rather natural or relaxed. I have never worn weave and never felt inclined to do so because I always valued my hair and didn't see a point in wearing weave. But she seems to think because it means your broke. Talk about ignorant. Check out her link she posted on instagram (it's screen shot )

I have never worn weaves, braids with fake hair, wigs, etc. My income is higher than the American average and has been since the day I graduated college. But it must be because I'm broke. SMH. Ignorance is just a sad state to live in.

Uh... Wearing your own hair is not cheap. I spend more for products, tools, and oils, and of course TIME! While being natural may be more cost effective than relaxing/weaving. It's not for the broke and ignorant.

Sadly some black women think weave is a status symbol. If you don't have "good hair" then you need fake hair. And if your hair isn't "good" and you don't have weave then something is wrong with you. I used to work in an office where I was the only woman of color who wore my real hair and it's like they pitied me. People were constantly coming up to me offering me hook ups with their favorite salons or friends or cousins they knew who did weaves. One coworker even offered to pay for a weave once! I mostly wore my hair in buns or french rolls so its not like my hair was looking raggedy but you could tell it was real. When I did my big chop 3 years ago, even my boss at the time asked me if I was going through some personal problems at home that caused me to want to cut off all my hair and not put a wig on top of it. I felt like I was working on a different planet. Why was it so hard for them to digest the fact that I chose to wear my real natural hair and that nothing was mentally or financially wrong with me? I used to think it was just a hood thing but I guess it's everywhere.

I personally don't like the look of fake hair cause it looks so fake. IMHO weaves only look good the first week or two and then they just look bad to me. The only fake hair that looks good to me for a while are human hair lace fronts. Like curlicarib, I am doing more than okay in the income dept and I have natural for over 13 yrs and I would NEVER go back.

Wow that's crazy!! Maybe its a regional thing, too. More than half of the women of color I see around me have natural hair.

OP Don't pay any mind to that instagram girl. She's probably the same person that would advise you to wash your real hair once a month

People who think like this usually are the type to spend thousands on Louis Vuitton bags, pay a $600 a month car note on a lexus and live at home in the projects with their mom.

I had a friend say that in my presence before.

It always starts with a compliment about my hair and how it looks good on me but she couldn't be natural, everybody else's hair looks like crap and the only reason someone would walk around like that is if they didn't want to spend money on getting their hair done (weave or otherwise).

I had to tell her hair that most naturals probably spend more money on product and tools than you would think. It ain't cheap.

I actually spent less on my hair when it was relaxed ... especially when I found LHCF and started doing everything myself (including relaxing)

now I end up going to get my cornrow/twists more often because I cant do those styles myself ... try as I might I cant part or cornrow to save my life

Not to mention that my relaxed hair was very easy to maintain with no issues .... my natural hair on the other hand is high maintenance and very very finicky

I disagree, but I totally see why someone would think like this.

Why spend years to grow your own hair long, when you can just buy it?
Why wear your own hair and only be able to use heat once a month, when you can heat style a weave every day?
Why worry about protecting your hair at night, when you can just throw the hair away after 8 weeks?

I think it's instant gratification vs. delayed gratification. And laziness vs. hard work. Story as old as time, unfortunately.

I used to really think some people's hair wouldn't grow, because they told me it wouldn't. I used to think unhealthy hair was due to ignorance about healthy hair practices. But I now really think that most people don't want to invest the years of prolonged effort, diligence and hard work it takes to have the long hair they want. So it's easier to believe it's simply not possible or that it's silly to work hard for something that you can go out and buy.

I pay a lot of money for my wigs but I haven't worn one in over a month as this point. I just love my natural hair and it's too hot for all that extra hair.

I wear my hair in all kinds of different ways, natural, weave,
braids... With that being said I usually wear my hair in its natural state for longer periods when my funds are low and I can't afford to get it done. My natural hair is A LOT of work. I don't wear long weave styles. I usually do bobs or something curly. But my hair does grow better when I leave it alone and I know a lot of naturals just like their hair in its natural state and don't do weave.

Note the value on perceived income. Even if someone were broke and natural-haired, so what? I just had a discussion with my kids about looking at the inner man and not the extraneous junk. We don't take any of it with us, just our souls and deeds. SMH.

And, of course, the IG'er is erroneous. She's making a poor value judgment on the hair she was most likely born with and the worth of the person. Tell-tale sign of racial low self-esteem.

I wanted to start trying to bun. I flat ironed my hair and put it up. Perhaps if I had some money, I might have corn rowed it up and bunned the ends of the braids.

My hair is important to me so I choose not to cover it with a wig or weave. Doesn't really matter to me how much the wig or weave costs, I don't want anything on my head other than my own hair. I like my hair and I feel it looks good. Also, I'm proud of all the hard work and time I put into transitioning to natural. My own hair is healthy and full and I love it.

I agree 100% with you. I think of a weave and wig as a hat and I don't wear hats because it dries the hair out and breaks it.

I don't know why a blog article was made and people are paying attention to a random silly comment from a random silly girl on Instagram.
