Let's talk Satin Charmeuse Bonnets

I have used those cheap crappy bonnets before instead of paying $3-6 for a bonnet 3-4 times a year, I want something that will last years that is quality and not mass manufactured. Silk charmeuse is a quality fabric and is as good as it gets other than silk, its very different than the typical polyester or nylon bonnet at a cheapy beauty supply...as stated upthread these bonnets are double lined. I like to support small businesses run by melanated ppl or women whenever I can.

natural_one as stated upthread in my first post I have provided a youtube link with a product review and what it looks like both companies make silk charmeuse bonnets that are double lined....you can also put either brand in the search via youtube and you get tons of hits as well.

I don't know whether I love or hate you by posting that link,....her beanies and other items are just lovely! Thank you for posting, I am in a space where I am being more conscious as a consumer on every level, we can't control everything but I can control who I choose to spend $$$$ with!:yep:

Sorry, I don't know anything about bonnets. I have ordered a bonnet or two online. I don't remember which ones but I never wore them. I wear the cheapie ones from the bss or wherever. I've been wearing the same one since 2009 :ohwell:

Treat yourself. Enjoy!

My cheapie has held up for at least 2 years.
The only reason I bought another one is because I accidentally left my last one in Santa Monica when I went on vacation.

I have issues with bonnets and breakage around the hairline. I've tried everything and it's always the same. I'm a pillowcase girl, although my hair is getting a tad too long for that. Do they have charmeuse pillow cases?

I make my bonnets. I do not like elastic pulling on my edges. I use silk.

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y

You all just reminded me to add ebonnets to my BF list. In addition to Ebonie seeming really sweet, hers is one e of the few that is double lined with a drawstring and elastic. I used to have a great satin one for years and then I couldn't use it anymore because the elastic wore out. I don't want that to happen again, so I want a drawstring.

I don't buy her scarfs because I have a double lined scarf that I got for cheaper at crystals coifs. I'll try to find the link.

Btw, if you know how to sew and have the time, Ebonie has a YouTube video with step by step instructions on how to make her bonnet. I just don't have the time.

ETA: this is the crystals coifs website, but if appears to be down - http://crystalscoifs.com

I think it's so interesting what people will & won't justify spending their money on.

A $45-$60 bonnet is an investment in your hair. The smooth fabric breathes, glides against your hair, and helps you retain moisture.

Before my collection grew, I only had the 1 silk bonnet from Pretty Anntoinets. I lost it one day (it fell down the side of the bed) and used my cheap bonnet from a BSS. The next morning, I woke up with these disgusting little white bumps where the elastic band was :nono: Not to mention the noticeable difference in how my hair felt.

I vowed to never be without a proper bonnet again. Besides, almost all of the links in this thread are for black woman owned businesses. I will break my neck to support those businesses, as long as they do right by me.

Saying you would never spend $45 on a bonnet, is like saying you would never spend more than $5 on a steak versus a more expensive porter house. It cost that much for a reason. You pay for quality & it shows.

Anywho...here are a few more links to places I plan on buying from
Bon Bon Cheveux
Silky Cocoon

Thanks for the links everyone, especially CurlyCrocheter! I've been looking for that first link forever!*starts making BF cart* scrunchies, bonnet and scarf.

I bought one. Yeah it was nice but the elastic stretched out after the same amount of wear and washings that a bss one can handle. Not worth it to me

I have the ebonnet in black and hot pink. it is super cute and well made, but I find the elastic too thick and very uncomfortable around my ears so much so that I wore it once and never again.

I do not like elastic. That is why I started making them with drawstrings. Plus, it is cheaper to make them than for me to order them.

I invest in my hair but, I cannot pay that much for a bonnet that I can make. If I couldn't sew I would order a good quality one though.

Is it easy to make? I'm not a seamstress at all but I would love to make my own with a drawstring. I do not like elastic either as it tears at the fine nape hair. A couple of weeks with one lead to almost baldness in one area of my nape.

Ladies, did the two of you follow through on ordering satin lined hats from Caheez? If so, how long did it take for you to receive your hats? Also, are you happy with the workmanship of the hats?

I ordered a hat on May 19th during the 40% off sale. I thought I'd receive it quickly due to the fact that I was ordering off season. Her site states that the turn around is four to five weeks. Yesterday, was six weeks.

I reached out to her to check the status of my order, yesterday. She responded quickly stating, that she had unforeseen circumstances, and that it would ship early next week, and thanked me for my patience. She gets a  for not running and creating a shipping label for something that is not going to ship till next week. However, I'm two-three days away from the Paypal 45 day limit to file a claim/dispute.

Is she just slow like HV and SD, but you know that you'll receive your product and be happy when you do? Or, should I be concerned about having an issue? It's not like I'm going to use the hat know, because it's :burning: outside right now. This is my first time using this vendor, so I don't know anything about her track record etc. TIA

Yes, I'm aware that she makes everything to order. However, it's hard to relate to her "unexpected obstacles" when she's had two more sales since the sale I participated in, and posting pix of herself working on a line for men.

I have order satin lined beanies, scarves, and headbands from this vendor. She sells great quality products. She has two different lines for the beanies, I think. One is called the everyday collection which is readily available and the signature collection which can be customized. I have purchased from both collections. Te customized collection is made when the order is placed so it takes about 6 - 7 weeks. You should not have an issue with quality or customer service from this vendor. I have placed multiple orders (can't remember the exact number) and have never had an issue.

I have also purchased satin lined beanies from YNVE.

Thanks,
Roz

Thank you for your response! I'll chill out. The fact that she didn't run and create a shipping label when I reached out to her speaks volumes. I just wanted to make sure.

Those are cute and I would love one but I cannot bring myself to pay those prices. I can get 2 MAC lipsticks for what they're asking.

Bumping this...did anyone try the flor bella bonnets? I just ordered one. Curious to see if folks are getting less frizz, less breakage, and more moisture?

I finally got my bonnet. No hairgasms yet but we shall see if this cuts down on dryness. Its HUGE! Fit all my hair easily. I love the scrunchies.

I ordered from YnVe Couture on the 6th, it shipped the 9th and I received my red satin line beanie today. I like her turn around time better than Caheez, :yep:

ETA: Thank you for turning me on to YnVe!
