Hair growth with pregnancy

Hello mothers,

I was just having a random thought about how much my hair grew when I was pregnant. My hair went from about 2 inches past APL to bottom of BSL. It was so thick, healthy and strong too. I absolutely hated everything about pregnancy but that is the only thing I liked. Right now (4 years after having a baby) I'm MBL but I know I'm going to get some inches cut off. I wonder how much longer my hair would be if I had more babies? Lol. I definitely won't get pregnant again until I graduate grad school in 4 years and marry my love.

I'm curious to know if other women have had this experience with pregnancy. I wonder if the hair grows just as fast with each pregnancy?

Happened with me. I think my hair grew about 4-5 inches but I don't see myself pregnant again for a while.

Btw, I cut all that hair off anyway.

Didn't happen for me either. I have a 28 month old and currently 8 months pregnant and my hair has not grown faster one bit.

My slow growing hair grew really fast with my pregnancies. I retained about 5 inches with each pregnancy. That may not seem like much to some of you, but my normal rate is 3-4 inches a year!

I'm currently 8 months preggo, and about 17 weeks post relaxer. When I last relaxed in April I was BSL and now I'm closing in on MBL...but for me I don't think this is extraordinary growth (since BSL and MBL seem so close together). I look forward to seeing what my ACTUAL length will be after I give birth in October. I'll be sure to take some comparison pics to get an accurate measurement of length retained.

My hair really grew with my first pregnancy but then it all broke off afterwards, I am now almost 7 months pregnant with my second one and I haven't seen considerable growth. Maybe it's still coming.

I believe mines have grown a little faster. I also noticed increased thickness which I am sure is just temporarilly. FH also commented on how fast my hair was growing since I had BC'd October of last year (he hated it lol).

My hair rate did slow down temporarilly due to issues with anemia, but once I started supplementing with blood builders and increasing my green smoothies, it started growing back faster again. At the end of my pregnancy, I'll have to do a before and after pic (although I just trimmed it last week).

I got my color re-touched around the time I got pregnant (didn't know I was pregnant at the time) and I measured my hair about a month after I had my baby letting the new growth from the color be my guide. These were my measurements:

Bangs: grew 6.5 inches

Top crown: grew 7 inches

Back crown: grew 7.3 inches

I did get a nice boost of growth but it was not like extreme growth. It did take me from MBL to waist though.

^^^^ I suspect I had a lot more growth in the back but didn't measure that because my color is by way of highlights mostly in the bang and crown area.

When I was pregnant, my hair definitely grew a bit faster, but the thing I noticed more was the thickness. My hair was so thick and shiny.

My hair growth thickness And texture all changed when I was pregnant. My hair grew past my shoulders while being relaxed and bleached and color treated all at once only when I was pregnant and it was still thick I did take prenatal vitamins and iron religiously because I am extremely anemic. My hair also tolerated daily wash sessions with shampoo and conditioner. Which is something I can NEVER do on my natural hair. My hair thrived when I was pregnant and I was too lazy to take good care of it and it thrived anyway. So yes I agree.

I'm having a girl in October. I big chopped again I believe in March and seems like my hair is growing back faster. Wish my nails would grow like they were earlier in the pregnancy.

I'm 3 months pregnant.. I hope my hair benefits from this pregnancy ... I'm wearing crochets for last 6 weeks and have as much new growth that I would have at a 2 month take down.. I need to take these down but I'm to lazy at the moment .... I believe I only need like 3 inches to reach bsl,, hopefully I can retain that much by December so I can get my natural hair professionally flat ironed for Xmas

I didn't take care of mine at all. By that I mean wash only twice a month and pulled back in a bun.

There are reasons a lot of women have changes in hair/nail growth during pregnancy. The hormones (estrogen, progesterone, androgens, etc.) produced while pregnant can lengthen the anagen (growth) phase of the hair. It means that hair that would otherwise have shed remains on the head for a longer time. Beware! After birth, the hormone levels drop and change back to normal, and the extra hair sheds out. In a matter of months your growth pattern returns to the way it was before the pregnancy.

Note: All women are different, produce varying levels of hormones, and have different reactions to the hormones. Some women notice the opposite effect (hair/nails becoming weaker or more brittle). Other women notice no change. The same woman may notice varying or even opposite effects in different pregnancies.

This is so true. I have seen so many horror stories about postpartum shedding. I didn't experience any of that.

I can blame pregnancy for my laziness when it comes to washing weekly. My last wash was two weeks ago, I fixed that today. With my DD my hair grew from neck length to past apl. I think vitamins play a roll in that

My hair was black, thick and shiny when pregnant with my son.

Im assuming this is a girl because my hair looks dull.

Yay! my hair is growing faster. I'm pregnant and I gained 3/4 of an inch. Normally my hair grows 1/4 -1/3 of an inch per month.
