Naturals: what's your water based moisturizer?

So, I realized recently that a key missing part in my regimen is a water based moisturizer.

On wash days, I follow the LOCS method and love it. On non-wash days I simply attempt to moisturize with Shea butter, and I realize this is leaving my hair crispy because I'm just sealing and not moisturizing.

So, this is going to be a big change for me.

Questions for you:
1. What's your water-based moisturizer?
2. How do you moisturize on non-wash days.

Thanks!

Usually purabody sapote or murumuru in between washes. Sometimes I use a wet butter with water as the first ingredient.

As I Am DoubleButter Cream, As I Am Leave-In Conditioner or either Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner. No matter which one I use I always mist my hair with either plain water or my water/aloe vera juice mix. I'll apply my moisturizer of choice afterwards then style my hair

APB pudding leave in on wash days and I layer DB moisturizing creme gel on top of it.

On non wash days, I'll a spray bottle with water to just reactivate the existing product in my hair or I'll use a little APB spray leave in as a moisturizer.

I prefer leave-ins I can find on the ground. I use Alikay Naturals Lemongrass spray and then follow up with a creamier water based leave-in like Shea Moisture Raw Shea Transitioning Milk (brownish orange label). I've recently been experimenting with the Shea Moisture JBCO leave-in (the one in the big tub) - it gives great definition and shine but I don't think it's that moisturizing.

Many people have great results just putting plain water in their hair and then sealing.

Thanks for the responses! I bought something with water as first ingredient. Nowadays it seems almost every ethnic hair product has oil in it. It was hard to find anything without oil, which is what I was hoping for, given that my regimen has several other steps where I use oil. I got a hair cream by Palmers. Curious how that will go.

I'll be using water as a spray. Maybe also aloe juice when I can find it (I haven't been able to find it in Dakar, Senegal, where I now live).

I use a simple homemade spray using Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera Gel and water. It works perfectly to revive my wash and goes throughout the week. Plus it's more cost effective than buying a pre-formulated leave in (for me anyways since I use a lot)

I use Cantu Naturals Leave In Conditioning Cream on days when I've washed my hair as a leave-in. To re-moisturize I use the Cantu Naturals Coconut Spritz (that's not the real name... but it's something like that). I love them both. Honestly, I love the whole line.

Hmm aloe gel mixed with water, eh? I have some gel I haven't used in a while. Maybe I should try that.

:yep: I use Aloe Vera (liquid) + water in a spray bottle. Then I apply oil (grape seed/jojoba), then a water based leave in cond (nourish spa). Works good for me.

Some water based moisturizers that I liked:
Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Cream
DB cocoa whip

I usually refresh my hair with DB herbal spray/spritz in the morning. I apply a moisturizer some nights, when I retwist my hair before bed.

my favorite is plain ol' water! I rarely need to moisturize during the week now. I've made my own additive (to prepoo, conditioner, and use it straight for any heat treatment used in styling). It's old school but it works so beautifully, that even on the occasion when I feel like some water on my hair, I can spritz it with very littler reversion:grin:. I have to thank my Mom for reminding me of what she used on my hair when I was a child.

I also like Giovanni Direct Leave In (original formula) as a moisturizer (on my non-straight - curly only hair).

Fauxshim How are you using that? I was looking at that product in the store yesterday. I wear my hair straight most of the times and was looking at it for maintaining my straight styles.

On wash days I use the following depending on what's left in my cabinet. In order of favorites:
Say Yes to Carrots Leave-In Conditioner
Kinky-Curly Knot Today Leave-In Conditioner/Detangler
Giovanni Direct Leave-In

Daily:

Aloe Vera juice, water and glycerine mix

And once a week or every other week I try to use a little Infusium 23 Leave-In

I wear my hair natural 90% of the time. On non wash days, I usually dampen my hair with some water in a spray bottle and then apply a little bit of product to my hair in sections. I like wearing wash and goes because they're easy and I'm trying to use heat no more than 3-4 times a year. So after washing, I section my hair into three (two sides and then the back), squirt some into my hands and rake them through each section. I like to seal with rice bran oil. I don't know if the water based moisturizer might cause your hair to revert, though. Maybe a serum or non water based moisturizer would be better. When I wear my hair straight, I usually just brush some rice bran oil through. I don't keep it straight too long, though. Maybe five days at the most.

Keracare Natural Textures Butter cream. I love it! It has replaced my beloved QB AOHC. I would love to stick with Qhemet, but I like for my products to be readily available all the time. So, I had to find a back-up.
I use the Keracare to re-twist/braid during the week or to refresh in the mornings on the days I wear a bun. There is absolutely no greasy build-up.

I love the elasta qp mango butter as well but have run out and haven't been able to find out anymore. I scored some at a product swap and was in love!

I'm not a natural and I'm not trying to hijack the thread I just wanted to say thank you for this suggestion. I tried this and unlike the stuff I was using my curls from braidouts were still popping and very soft after moisturizing.

Oyin Handmade Hair Dew, all day every day, year round. Works by itself or sealed with oil, on especially humid days I spray my hair with Aloe Vera Juice first.
