agreed, MBL is long to me, I'm still reaching for BSL and i really need more low density naturals to look at because most of the people I see have more density. Like me and my little sister have almost the same length but her buns and twists and everything are like leaps and bounds bigger than mine because of my low density. I'm afraid i'll never look like i have a lot of hair lol

In her defense, this is the one place where saying, "Only MBL" would be apropos given all of the luxurious hair that exists. OP, my hair is also fine and low density.

I bumped some pix in another thread for you. I'm supposed to do my first roller set tomorrow with the Conici/Italian rollers. If it's not a disaster, I'll post pix of the results and mention you in Setting to Success.

Shelli from Hairscapades has fine, long, and low-density hair.

I do my hair bi-weekly. I always do the following:
  • Detangle well lubed hair
  • Pre-poo with a penetrating oil, such as, EVCO
  • DC with heat
  • I keep my hair stretched via braid out, flexi rod, or curlfomer set to minimize tangles.
  • LCO 2-3x a week
  • Sleep in a satin bonnet and/or pillow case

Also, I do a henna treatment about every other month. The majority of my products are ceramide and/or protein rich.

I have always had very fine hair, and it's about medium density, but lower around the perimeter. I'm approaching bsl.

My thing is that I always have to finger detangle. That's what is helping my hair thicken up, rather than pulling out all that hair with combing and brushing utensils.

Napp beautiful hair. Your hair looks like high density to me, did you mean low or high porosity?

I'm sorry to crash this thread but some of you seem to have hurr that is normal not low density.:look:

Napp your plaited ponytail in your avatar is not puny like the low density hurr I have seen.

But its not thick like some braids ive seen! IDK Maybe I need to see some normal density hair to quell my mind. lol

thank you! I don't think my hair is high density because its not very thick. perhaps the thickness will come with length.

High density hair isn't about thickness it is about how many strands you have on your hair. Your hair looks high density because you look to have lots of hair on your head. My hair is high density but fine. So I have lots of hair and you can see that when I wear my hair out but when it is combined or twisted it looks thin/fine.

So here's a picture that I think explains high and low density. My baby sister's hair is BSL, I am literally 1 in away from BSL. Her bun looks like she has hair for days, and i'm still rocking a bunny tail. She is high density and I am low, so the only way I can appear to have volume is to wear my hair curly, i can't straighten it and expect to have the same amount of body and volume.

This message is for anyone. If your hair is actually fine and lower density, likely you'll be able to see your scalp. Even with lots of voluminous curly hair, my scalp is really visible. Forget covering any tracks or clip ins.

Great picture comparison.

I have fine, medium to low density hair myself. I'd love to do twists as a style, but my hair isn't dense enough and my twists always look puny. I'd love to have thicker hair. My hair does look denser at longer lengths when I wear a wash n go, but I'd love to try more styles. I just recently started taking biotin to see if it will help.

Natural, 3abc/4a, Fine, medium density
Fine, low density, low porosity, and trying to get past shoulder length.

MileHighDiva, I will take a cue from you and start finger detangling and use rice bran oil for ceramide.

Because thanks is not enough...This is the best explanation of Low vs. High density hair I've seen.

You could always make super small twists. I look terrible in chunky twists. But if I get about 40 on my head it looks nice. It holds moisture really well too.

I have fine, low density long hair. Although when I recently straightened my WSL hair, it was so thin and flimsy, I was underwhelmed. I have been on a long journey trying to get thicker (stronger) hair. When I wear my hair curly, I can sometimes fool people to give the impression of thicker hair. When I find a good picture, I will show you. Sometimes when my hair is wet or damp, you can see so much scalp you would think I have alopecia (no joke). I have been using cassia sporadically with temporary improvement in appearance.

Summer where are you?
JosieLynn you and your sister are pretty.

I know I have a lot of hair. I hope no one kicks me out but I have some questions. I do not have low density but I do think my hair is fine. How do I know the difference between fine, regular & thick?

I would like to know this too. How is thickness not related to density?

I think thickness is related to density.

A head full of high density, fine hair will seem/look thick but need to be handled gently because the hairs are fine and fragile. Fine, dense hair can look tough and indestructible but often isn't.

A head full of coarse (meaning the individual hair strands are thick) low density hair will not look thick (although there are always exceptions of course) because it lacks the volume of having a high number of strands.

These are two extremes, there are so many variations and also people with fine/high density or coarse/low density that don't fit the mould I just mentioned. I'm very confused with my own hair, I think I have low density, coarse hair (I need to get a komaza analysis when my hair gets longer)
