I've always been a huge shedder for as long as I can remember and I use to accept it as my reality but I'm tired of it. I believe I'm a 3c/4a combo hair type.

Every time I wash my hair, huge climbs fall out. I'm surprised I have any hair on my head!! When I wear it curly, I was it every other day with Wen and then use Miss Jessie's Quick curl. When I wear it straight, I wash it every two weeks. When my hair is straight, it's significantly less dry. I don't know what to do. How do you guys prevent heavy shedding? I'm tied of losing all of this hair. Please help :(

One thing that's helped my shedding significantly is oiling my scalp with Ayurvedic oils and letting it sit no less than 15 min usually with heat prior to washing (I also put EVCO on the length and spritz with water for a hot oil treatment). Brahmi, bhringraj, and Amla oil mixes have been the most effective for me.

There are several remedies that have worked for others like garlic or other supplements. Hope you find something soon!

You look as if you have fine hair. How gentle are you with your hair? Have you tried finger detangling your before using tools? Are you heavy handed when it comes to combing, brushing, and washing?

If you are gentle with your hair already, have you tried black tea rinses? Bamboo tea also helps.

I do have fine hair. I try to be very gentle when I detangle and finger detangle as much as I can before switching to a wide tooth comb. I've be never tried a black tea rinse before but I'm going to try. Thanks!

Option 1.

Protein, garlic treatments and garlic supplements! Do a medium to hard protein treatment and up your garlic intake. Every now and again use a garlic oil on your scalp, or mix it with your DC. Dominican Beauty Supply stores carry Ajo oil... Or you can order some online.

Another young lady found out she was actually anemic. Might be a good idea to get a blood analysis and let your doctor tell you if you might have an iron deficiency. Not trying to scare you. But that's easily combated by taking an iron supplement and increasing your iron intake.

I am slightly anemic, I had no idea that it would impact my hair. I will definitely check out the supplements!

Have you always been using wen? I only ask because I shed a fair amount when I wash my hair. But when I tried Wen my hair came out in clumps in the tub. It wasn't until after the 3rd wash I figured out it was wen. Then I searched on yt and there were other women who had the same experience. 1 woman who was white posted the video of her calling their customer service as she was washing her hair to complain and her hair was falling out in clumps as well.

Recently I felt I was seeing more shed hairs on wash day. So I added a garlic black tea Rinse.
Shedding has stopped.
4 cups of water
8 tea bags
Whole bulb of garlic
Boil and let seep over night
Strain
Works for me! :)

Are you sure it is shedding and not breakage??

A lot of the time it may seem like it is shedding but it is actually breakage. I have dealt with both over the years.
Check your hair next time you wash and look for white bulbs at the ends. If you are getting more short pieces than long its most likely breakage.

If it is shedding the best thing to do is to find the root cause. For me personally my problem was birth control. Made me go from MBL down to 4" due to massive shedding.
The only thing I could do was stop the bc, and wait, eat right and exercise.. I did take supplements and it did help the shedding some but didn't stop it.

Is that what it is?

OP: Is there any protein in your regimen? I used Wen exclusively for a while and ended up with over-moisturized hair. (My hair is fine and was relaxed at the time.) Once I added a light protein once a week, all was good. :yep:

I don't think so. I do drink protein shakes every morning (as a part of my exercise ritual) but other than that, nothing.

I think it's actually breakage. After posting here, I stopped combing my hair in the shower and detangled using my fingers and noticed a significant drop in breakage. I'm also going to try the black tea rinse suggested by another user. Any tips related to breakage would surely be appreciated!

is your hair dry or over moisturized? It sounds dry, try some deep conditioning treatments at least once a week.

Issues (good and bad) with the hair and body start from the inside (meaning from the gut).

My hair is very thick / dense. I used to be a big shedder, but it was never a problem since I have such thick hair. I was already eating healthy, but when I went gluten free (January 27, 2013), my shedding went way down. I shed very little these days.

Shedders can do this and that on the 'outside', but once one really cleans up from the inside, they usually notice a huge difference.

^ I agree and my trigger was dairy. Once I cut it out my shedding reduced and acne disappeared. And the best "iron supplement" that has given me GREAT results is one Flintstones Complete vitamin a day. The improvement in my lab results was unreal.
