She is my new hair idol!!! I would SOOO rock my hair like this when it's that length! I wouldn't blow it out though I would just braid it at night until it got str8er and fluffy like hers. Her hair is soo 80's funky. It's cute. The face she's making is another story lol. I know I can do it I'm just so impatient! lol. That length would probably take me another 2-3 years I think?? Does your curl pattern stretch out with length?? And is it harder to make an afro stand as it gets longer???

I went on her myspace page and noticed one of my friends is listed as a friend on her page. I was actually on the phone with my friend and asked her about the beautiful-haired woman.

My friend J. said that she knows Ishe (I think that's her name) and that she is a vegan. She said that her hair is really beautiful and she thinks that Ishe braids it up when she washes it. J. told me that she would ask her about her hair regimen. I also emailed her asking how she washes it etc. so hopefully we'll get an answer. J. said that Ishe has a daughter who is 5 and has the same thick long hair as her mother.

Girl,

Be sure to let us know what you find out. Even though I may not copy her regime it would be interesting to know her hair history.

It would be nice if we could get an online interview with her, kinda like we have for people of the month and then post her answers. I wonder if she would do something like that?

Well I guess the vegan business is the junk cuz her skin just looks wonderful and her body seems to be real fit and tight! i wonder what her nationality is she looks foreign... She's cute

Well, I keep checking my myspace page. It says that she read my message, so hopefully she'll respond soon.

My friend said she will also speak with her to ask her her regimen.

You and me, gurl, you and me. :) 9 pages of drooling over her hair, and our LHCF detectives still have not come up with her regimen. Come on, let's find out!!! I wouldn't be surprised if she was a member of hair boards

Yes, I agree. Flowerhair gives good advice. I too manipulated my hair a lot last year...and manipulation to me is too much dry combing. Now, I've been finger styling and only combing/detangling my hair when it's soaking wet in the shower. I've also been moisturizing my hair more often. Thanks for your comment!

Poohbear, your signature picture is beautiful!

I really would love my hair to get that long I'm thinking maybe a few years down the road, but her hair is really beautiful, (imagine you ask her what's her regime and she said it's a weave:eek: )

What I've noticed is that the curl pattern is stretched out a little more, because the hair is heavier. It depends on hair type and texture, but in general the longer your hair is the more difficult it is to wear an afro that stands up in a perfect rounded shape. You may need to roller set it in order to get a good fro. My hair is only somewhere between APL and BSL, and it will flop if I don't roller set for my afro's.

Hi Ladies,

This is the response I got from her:

thanx 4 reachin' out.
as far as my hair regimen goes, it's really simple. i just wash & condition it. i use ojon. i don't put any heavy oils on my scalp, which allows it 2 breathe, & recieve the nutrients it needs in order 2 grow naturally.
less is more. & if we (sistah's) just leave our hair alone & let it BE, THEN WE CAN HAVE THE CROWN & GLORY THAT GOD MEANT 4 US 2 HAVE!

hit me up any time & cheers 2 natural hair :) ~ISHE
--------------------------------------------------------------

I posted about Ojon before. It's a bit pricey, but it has REALLY helped my hair, so I'm happy to hear her say she uses that--guess I'm on the right track.

Makes sense. I started a discussion about complicated regimens and basically many concurred that complicated regimens with multiple hair cocktails is unecessary to reach extreme lengths of their crowns of glory.

It definitely gives us naturals something to strive for. My cousin has hair length like this natural and all over the place.

She is one of the reasons I decided to go natural. Her texture is more 4A mine is more 4B but darn if I am not going to give it my all and see what happens.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

As my Mom always says.....Nothing beats a failure but a try! I am going to give it everything I have to see if it is possible to achieve.

Keep hope alive ladies!! Wouldn't it be a wonderful testimony in 2-3 years to see how many of use have obtained this goal? We can check in yearly to post pics of our progress.

Let's mark the date April 9, 2009 or 2010 let's see who has made it or gotten close to this type of length. Not a fan of the blow dryer at all but maybe banding or using the cool setting will allow us to show the true length.

Is anyone game!

@natstar, I'm thinking about going back to wearing two-stand twists instead of constant fat twistouts...too much manipulation for my coily strands. And putting my hair into three baggies will be too much manipulation and stress on my hair too. It's VERY shrinky and fine-stranded! My hair cannot fit into one bun but it can fit into two.
I'll just endure the boredom of wearing twists to retain hair length. I need to stop this manipulation immediately and leave my hair alone! Lol! I don't use many products, just the basics...shampoo, sometimes conditioner, and a moisturizer...so I'm good there.

@Vaganova_Buns, thank you for your comment!

@ tiffcurl, Thank you for posting. I knew she would have a simple routine with minimal products. I'm hoping to reap more benefits of keeping it simple...if only I could keep my hands out of my hair! Hee-hee!
I do wonder how she washes it (loose or braided/twisted) and how she dries her hair (airdried loose or in braids/twists or blowdry) and how she styles her hair...can you ask her those questions too???

Thank you Poohbear. :)

You have made great progress already and didn't you have to chop twice?

I don't straighten often, just 3-4 x per year. And it doesn't come without perils, believe me. If you have knots and run heat over it, it's no fun!:(

But what I have realized, is that the less products I put in my hair after I wash and detangle the better. Also, I break every silicone rule in the book! From Sometimes from shampoo to finish! But it makes it easier.
I also detangle in very, very small sections with a great deal of patience.

I do not think I'll be trying it anymore and I will rollerset to stretch.

ETA: Thank You imstush!
Yes I did do the BC twice. I'm happy with my progress but I think I would have had more length if I hadn't manipulated it so much in 2006. But I guess I got caught up in the excitement of putting my hair in different styles. :)

I've also noticed that my hair does better with less products, but I've always been a product minimalist anyway.

And I think I'll avoid an attempt to straighten my hair....still afraid of damage. I'm going to keep growing my hair out heat-free for now.

You bring back memories. I would be in awe at someone's 'hair', ask them about their regimen (pre-LHCF) and they end up telling me it's a weave. How disappointing and embarrasing!

I remember this one woman who I used to ask about her hair and one day, I got close and this chick was wearing wigs/weaves and acting like it was her hair!! Giving me tips on 'haircare' and everything!

OFFTOPIC- I am adding you as a fotki friend :)

I am fully relaxed but when im stretching, i lightly blow out my hair and wear my hair in a headband and a big poof...i am waiting for the day for it to be longer like this. Her boots are cute! gon head momma...

Poohbear--everything you mentioned about low manipulation, well I'm currently doing as of this week. I was in cornrows for awhile--7 months to be exact and got bored with them. So my hair is now double strand twisted and pulled back. I can do one ponytail, but I have a few pieces popping out, so I've opted to do two ponytails in the back and then pull those two together with another rubber band (a good non gripping one) so that it looks like one bun. i love hair around my face and feel somewhat boring with hair pulled back so tight, but i'm trying to grow it out as fast as possible with as little manipulation as possible.

why don't you try keeping it pulled back until June or July? At least for me, that's when I love wearing my hair out because summer is in full swing and it's just fun to be free in the summer, but then in Sept. you can go back to protective styling. We can be double strand twist pulled back partners in long hair fun if you like. ;)

Also, I did ask Ishe detailed questions about her wash and sleep routine, but as for now, that's all she gave me. I wish she had been more detailed.

Tiffcurl thanks for following up with the subject of this thread directly. I honestly believe she told you everything she does to maintain her hair and its length. It really is just that simple - hair out, wet it, put shampoo in hands, rub together, run through hair, massage scalp, rinse, apply conditioner, run through hair, let sit, rinse out, dry hair. Voila - clean hair.

I know my natural friends who have hair that rival hers do NOTHING SPECIAL in the way they wash it, dry it or style it. I was talking with one the other day and she was like "girl I know I am probably being neglectful of my hair but I only have time to wash it, condition it and pull it up in my trusty bun on Sundays which is my hair wash day." Her hair is waistlength, all natural.

Not until I visited a few websites did I read about people washing their hair in braids (well I did do that when I was wearing braided styles in early 90's), parting it in 8 sections and washing in those specific sections, etc.

Others I know outside of this forum, don't do that and barely sleep with their hair covered. I know GASP! They do not sleep with silk or satin pillow covers and their hair is thick, healthy and grown to great lengths. I believe the "trick" is no complicated regimens, very low maintenance and low manipulation period. Blow outs and styling on special occasions only (i.e. wedding, graduation, picture day, etc.)

Again, thanks for contacting her directly about her routine and ending all speculation.
